How a Venom Movie Works Without Spider-Man

Director Ruben Fleischer has gone into detail about how a film about Venom works without his nemesis Spider-Man.

“There’s more than enough Venom to go around,” Fleischer told IGN at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. “There’s plenty to mine just from Tom

‘s performance, the character, and the world he inhabits.”

The Venom director explained that the film’s exploration of Eddie Brock’s relationship with the symbiote is what makes it unique.

“It’s a really unique movie because it’s about a relationship,” he said. “The Eddie Brock and symbiote relationship is unlike any other superhero or comic book hero. It’s about that duality…it’s about two people coming together and forming a new identity. I think that’s plenty to explore in one film.”
