Batman: Arkham Dev Hiring For Title On Next-Generation Platforms

New beginnings.

Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum, has listed dozens of new openings at its UK studio, making reference to a "highly anticipated upcoming AAA title” on new platforms.

ResetEra detailed a listing from the studio seeking a new community manager. The jobs website lists 24 new positions, with nearly all of them making reference to an unannounced AAA title for "next generation platforms."

No Caption Provided

Some of the positions are permanent, others are two-year contracts. This may or may not indicate a timeframe in which we might see some sort of announcement.

It's not clear on exactly what kind of game Rocksteady is working on quite yet. Some positions, like the senior producer and lead scriptwriter, are calling for "broad knowledge of comics, novels, games, cinema, and popular culture relating to video games." Given Rocksteady's portfolio, and knowing it is partnered with Warner Brothers, we're most likely going to see something related to DC comics once again.

I hope it’s either a Superman or justice league game.

So we're talking about a launch game for the next wave of consoles? That's too far away to be excited about, but not too far away to start saving up new console money.

I just don't want to see that combat system ever again. Learn from the recent Spiderman game.

@cboye18: Seriously? That was one of the best things about the Batman games, the freeflow combat. It was very innovative, and other games copied from it.

@jhawk: The controls, movement and animation are smooth, but the combat system itself basically amounts to constantly whack-a-moling your enemies. There is no challenge involved as can you either dodge or counter your opponents indefinitely without repercussions or proper timing. Shadow of Mordor/ War makes this system even worse as the skill tree over makes executions even faster, which further automates the combat system instead expanding it. There is so little player skills involved.

It's not as bad as the early AC combat system (which is kinda similar but far clunkier), but they definitely made the combat system to appeal to casuals. The recent Spiderman game has a similar combat system as well but feels much more dynamic, more skill-based and much less automated.

@cboye18: Yeah it's infinitely easier than Spiderman. Smooth, yes, but you're basically Superman. Not Batman.

I feel like Spiderman got the difficulty in combat right

@nabinator: Agreed. Spider-Man was significantly more challenging. I enjoyed Batman’s combat, but it’s a walk in the park, regardless of the difficulty you choose.
