Now Playing: PlayStation Skipping E3 Again, But Xbox Will Be There - GS News Update

Original story follows...

Sony announced that for a second year in a row, PlayStation will not be attending E3. Last year, Sony's no-show meant that a lot of focus was on Xbox and Microsoft, and it seems like that will remain the case in 2020, with Xbox boss Phil Spencer confirming that the company will once again attend.

In a brief tweet on the matter, Spencer promised that the team at Xbox is working on their E3 showing for the year, and that they "look forward to sharing with all who love to play what's ahead for us."

This likely means that Microsoft will show games coming to the Xbox Series X at E3 this year, as it's due to release before 2020 is over. However, all games coming to the Series X at launch will also be coming to other consoles, as it will have no next-gen exclusives. The console was unveiled during the 2019 Game Awards; as of yet, Sony has not revealed the PlayStation 5, and many of its features remain secrets.

Whether or not Microsoft will have a good showing remains to be seen--here's an argument for why Sony skipping E3 is a good idea.

So the underdog that sells less consoles is willing to stick it out for the fans, that is a vote & true dedication to the fans in my book! Sorry, but Sony spits in the face of their loyal fans again and disrespects the entire gaming industry by not showing up. In essence they are saying you are not worth it, despite the millions of dollars you make for them and they minify the gaming industry! How much lower can you go?

Real interesting. Microsoft are attending E3 which is a great thing and yet this article does its best to throw shade at Xbox by trying to make it seem like supporting Xbox One X consumers is a bad thing, phrasing it like Xbox first party games are coming to Switch and PS5 and then questioning if they'll have a good show while praising Sony for being a no show.

Wow!

Honestly thank you Microsoft for giving a crap and giving us a show we know every company has their own fan show we know it’s cheaper and easier to do but thank you for understanding many fans love E3.

Not just Xbox fans but gaming fans in general its tradition and exciteing to see I love inviteing my friends over ordering some good pizza and drinks and having amazing time and its gonna be such a shame and terrible point in gaming if E3 goes away so thank you Microsoft for sticking it out and not going with this stupid narrative that E3 is a dead and no likes it which is a complete lie thank you.

Series x day one for me and my friends.

@leathelj: totally agree man. Anyone calling this desperate or questioning E3 relevance to this day only wants to tarnish the xbox brand for the sake of childish rivarly. I just want to finally see this new hardware in action.

@m4a5: Not sure why else I'd buy a gaming console. I'm not going to play PS5 games on an XboxSX. Phil still thinks that's a side note apparently.

Spencer confirmed they held back some AAA games last year as Sony did a no-show,this time MS will go full Steam on the new most powerful console in the world and it’s 15 studios Xbox games, the cloud and gamepass.if they nail the price and announce Lockhart then Sony did themselves a favour by not turning up, poor recent shows weaker console and war frame clone god fall to show of

@BabeNewelll: After 20 years and Perfect Dark Zero? I think the odds of that game being what old fans want, or even good, are kinda low.

@mogan: call me crazy buy i prefer having 50 perfect dark zeroes to what xbone offers.

games like azurik and pdz might have been quite weak but at least they were something unique beneath the halos, gears and splinter cells. and i got my 5 or 10 bucks worth of fun with them

now we are about to see if phil truly is the gamer leader he has sold himself as for a bunch of years. now there will be a console and a service that he "heads". mattricks xbone was dead on arrival

MS' last E3 was ok but not great...it seemed that they didnt needed to fire everything out even Sony wasnt there(coz lacking of content).
This times around MS needs to go all-in with the new console and new games coz, lets be honest,Sony only needs to show TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima for the PS4 and they are good

@sakaixx: i think most people got confused by that article as it was nonsense clickbate. All it said was xbox was doing what they and sony have done every generation which is have games playable on both old and new gen but so many people fell for it and got there panties in a twist lol. Imagine actually wanting to be locked out from playing new games because a new console came out,i cant see the logic in that can you?

@sakaixx: but that has never happened at launch, not ever lol. Can you give one example of a new console that from launch has made all there games exclusive to the new console rendering the previous worthless. There has always been a 1 to 2 year transition period as it makes business sense and its all about the money. Mabye one or two games are made exclucive to the new console to incentive an upgrade but thats it.so again the whole article was nonsense to draw in fanboys for clicks as it works on sites like this.

@walbo: there have been lots of games from gears to tekken to so on that have been launch games and not exist on the old platforms at all.

games like nhl, fifa and something like marvel ultimate alliance and alien isolation have been in definite minority.

then there have been games like gta v which are heavily overhauled for the newer machine.

@walbo: Also, dang that is a long edit. BTW yeah there is transition period of course. The usage of exclusive is to fasten that transition. All Series X games available on Xbox One just means to consumers they aren't getting the best of Series X on launch due to multi-platform nature of games, availability of games on current console thus less incentive to buy the Series X.

@sakaixx: I feel people feed to much into this. I feel it's nothing more but to fuel the console war. If you look at history, yes Microsoft had; Forza MS, Ryse, DR3, KI and some smaller titles at launch only on X1. At the same time they also had Forza Horizon 2, Titanfall and one or two more that also was on 360. Forza especially was two different games as well on the X1 vs the 360.

On top of that 3rd party will do the same just like previous generations. Some games will only be for next gen, and some will be cross gen for the first couple years. If Forza horizon 2 is anything to go on how different series X games will be from X1, I don't think we have anything to worry about. Like they literally cut mostly all the game out. Or remember the first Shadows of War? The nemesis system was completely took out on the 360/PS3 versions.

@sakaixx: i can agree with you that the transition does hold back the new gen and its what holds people back from upgrading but again this is not new hence why i said the article was nonsense and was just fanboy porn haha. I wouldn't actually mind if the new consoles rendered the old useless if it ment true next gen from day one as consoles are a very cheap hobby for how long they last if we forget about the red ring of death or ps2s broken disk readers lol.

@walbo: The difference is between getting only games that run on both vs getting a number of games that only run on the new. Those new games can try and do things that are not possible on the older hardware. 7 years is a long time for console hardware.

The idea that every single game will be shiny new and there won't be transition games is a misconception. There are always transition games but upwards of 2 years with nothing "new" is different.

Let's be honest, the only real upgrades you can give a game made for the base Xbox is textures, lighting, and frame rate. The core gameplay, world design, AI, and such all still have to be based around the old CPU.

Everyone keeps saying the new boxes are more like PC's but they still are not PC's. You will not get the same granular control of settings or options to choose how it runs. Developers must make sure it still runs on old hardware, which while similar to a min spec is not the same, as it is chosen for them not set by them.

@darkelf83: They are basically PC's with PC architecture but the difference is it's static hardware once it leaves the factory floor, unlike your run of the mill upgrade-able PC. This means the devs can build in custom settings per xbox series/console, similar to PCs having medium/high/ultra graphics settings but consoles wouldn't have the option, it would be selected for them by device.

@sakaixx: yup they where the incentives to upgrade only difference is ms are doing away with it in favour of accessibility between consoles and part of there forever bc push. I cant see why its the bad thing to do apart from the argument that it may hinder game development but again that has always been a thing between gens for both ms and sony so yea i really didn't understand the point of said article apart for the whole pandering to fanboys can you? Honast question as you raise valid points.
