Torchlight Frontiers Release Date Delayed Out Of 2019

Out of 2019.

The new Torchlight game, Torchlight Frontiers, is not going to launch on time. Developer Max Schaefer of Echtra Games announced during an ExileCon panel today that the free-to-play action role-playing game won't make it out in 2019 as expected.

He said so with a laugh, given there are fewer than 50 days left in 2019 with no update in sight. The delay out of 2019 is no surprise, as Schaefer told SegmentNext that 2019 was only an "early estimate." He added, "The bottom line is the game will ship when it's done."

Now Playing: Diablo Meets Destiny In Torchlight Frontiers

Frontiers is currently in alpha testing. It's in development for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.

Frontiers features a "shared, persistent, and dynamically generated world" featuring hack-and-slash gameplay in dungeons stacked with creepy creatures and bosses.

Echtra Games is headed up by Max Schaefer, who founded Diablo creator Blizzard North. He was joined by the other two Blizzard North founders--his brother Erich Schaefer and David Brevik--on stage at ExileCon today where they shared stories about the history of Diablo and more.

Disclosure: Grinding Gear Games is paying for GameSpot's flight and accommodation in Auckland, New Zealand to attend ExileCon.

I'm a fan of the Torchlight games and this is the first I've heard of this. The "free to play" will probably be a deal-breaker for me, since that usually means pay to win.

@screamingsatori: i am thinking the opposite of what you proposed - only because for the longest Ive been against paying for better equiptment mostly when Fortnite released and broke the barrier for console games to have those features. But I remember Maplestory having such vendors for real cash to have better stuff...I am fan of Torchlight and i will definitely give it a chance whether or not they are offering deluxes. More than likely ill play the game so much that I'd toss a lousy five bucks to get a cooler scythe that can do neater hits and higher damage. Id even buy a personal dog with horns if they offered it lol

@screamingsatori: Exactly what I was about to say. At least we had two awesome game before the "free to play" curse.

just came here too say don't waste your time trying this game, it's bad overall for been third in a series. it felt like the first one but more shallow, bland, with a grind that other games do the same and better.

they could have released this as a expansion pack for torchlight 2, years ago and i would gave it a bit of praise for adding more to a old game, as it is now ? years later this feel like a mobile game on pc. wonder when it does release if they will have a nice variety of things you can buy in their cash shop since " hey, it F2P ! "

@jimmywolf: honestly Jimmy it just sounds like you are bored and dont like the artwork. You should try Diabloe. As for me I love Warcraft like games with cartoonish cheesy designs and details. It brings out the lore of fantasy and highlights evil magic and gore better. Bright red dripping from an orcs fangs is better than dark blood being released from a cut wound.

@jimmywolf: I like to give things the benefit of the doubt before I judge them. I think that Torchlight 1 and 2 were great. I played the Torchlight Frontiers alpha and, frankly, I'm not a fan. They are using a completely different graphics engine than the first 2 games and clearly it hasn't translated well. Maybe they can fix it before the final release, but I'm not feeling optimistic at this point.

This game is the D3 of the Torchlight series. It's being dumbed down in almost every single way and adding horrible gameplay systems.

@animuboobaru: i dont think you could get worse than Diablo 3. Torchlight never offered online compatibility - that is where Diablo 3 failed at by offering online with no lobbies. Hardly anyone ever joined my on going games even when i opened my realm to the masses. Lol
