E3 2018: Black Ops 4 Changing How Call Of Duty Releases DLC

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is changing up how the Call of Duty franchise releases DLC. Announced today was the Black Ops pass, which Activision says “represents a new approach to post-launch content.” Specifically, this will take the form of a “live season” instead of four separate DLC expansion releases as the franchise is known for. What this means is Activision will release content faster to “keep things fresh” and launch new maps and content faster than before.

The Black Ops Pass for Black Ops 4 includes content for the game’s three modes: Zombies, Multiplayer, and the battle royale mode Blackout. This takes the form of:

  • “Classified,” a Bonus Zombies Experience, available at Launch
  • 4 Additional All-New Zombies Experiences
  • 12 Multiplayer Maps
  • 4 Exclusive Blackout Characters

“Classified” is in addition to three Zombies “experiences” that will be available at launch: IX, Voyage of Despair, and Blood of the Dead.

“We all know Treyarch’s track record when it comes to supporting Black Ops, so fans should expect a ton of community events and a full calendar of franchise celebrations for everybody to enjoy,” Activision said in a press release.

Pricing for the Black Ops Pass was not announced; we’ll report back with more details later. Black Ops 4 launches on October 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more on Black Ops 4 during E3.

E3 2018: Destiny 2’s Cayde Is In Serious Trouble In New Forsaken Trailer

The new DLC expansion for Destiny 2, Forsaken, has already been revealed, but its story may not be quite what we expected. Sony’s E3 press conference featured a new trailer for the DLC, and it suggests that things aren’t going well for everyone’s favorite character, Cayde-6.

The beginning of the video shows Cayde–looking extremely damaged–raising his head. We then see his Ghost shot out of the sky by off-screen enemies, who then move in closer. An Awoken character, most likely the Prince of the Reef Uldren Sov, wielding a hand cannon then aims at an off-screen Cayde and fires. As the camera continues to pan around, we see Cayde laying on the ground, seemingly dead, as the Awoken character leaves.

It’s unclear if Cayde is actually dead, as we then see key art for the game that shows someone carrying a limp Cayde in their arms. If he is indeed dead, it would be a surprising move, as Cayde (played by Nathan Fillion) is routinely cited as the franchise’s strongest character.

No other details about Forsaken were shared, but we’ve already seen a good amount of it. Alongside the expected additions for a new Destiny 2 expansion, it also includes a new PvP/PvE mode hybrid called Gambit. We’ll have more on Forsaken as it’s announced, along with full details on everything revealed during Sony’s press conference.

E3 2018: The Last Of Us: Part 2 Gameplay — 4 Things We Learned From Brutal New Trailer

We’ve all been waiting to see The Last of Us: Part II gameplay, and we finally got our first glimpse at Sony’s E3 2018 press conference. What seemingly started as a trailer or cutscene transitioned to an extended look at stealth and combat.

So what did we learn? What improvements can we expect over the original Last of Us? Read on to find out. And for more from the show, check out all the Sony E3 2018 press conference news.

You Play As Ellie

We actually already knew this, but it was interesting to see how differently grown-up Ellie played to The Last of Us’s Joel and young Ellie. As with the first game, she seemed more than capable of handling herself. Ellie moves quickly and is a fierce warrior. She’s proficient with a bow; we saw her snap off shots from close-up and afar. We also saw Ellie wield a machete, and though she was smaller than the enemies she faced, she was able to get the jump on them with her agility and cleverness. Ellie is no doubt conflicted about her proficiency for killing, so it will be interesting to see how the story tackles this as the narrative progresses.

Laying Low

One small but notable change is the ability to lie down. This was not present in the first game but should come in handy when trying to remain hidden. We saw Ellie lay prone under a car, hiding from an enemy. This probably saved her life, as she was able to stay hidden and wait for the opportune moment to fire off a killing shot.

No Sign Of Joel

The E3 trailer was lengthy and detailed, focusing exclusively on Ellie. Joel, the playable character of the first game, was nowhere to be seen. However, Ellie was dressed in clothes similar to what Joel wore in the original game, which is potentially her way of honoring him. Joel will undoubtedly appear in The Last of Us: Part II, and it’s exciting to think about what role he’ll have.

Even More Brutal

Like the trailer from Paris Games Week, this was a brutal trailer that showed a lot of up-close-and-personal combat that often ended in gruesome fashion. We saw Ellie launch an axe into an enemy’s face, where it stuck. We saw Ellie savage an enemy with multiple arrows to the chest, with her foe falling to his knees before she hacked his head off with a knife. Another scene showed Ellie craft an explosive arrow and then blow up an enemy with it. In yet another sequence, Ellie was hidden under a car and shot her enemy in the face when he spotted her. The first Last of Us was a brutally violent game, and it looks like the sequel will be as well. It’s not just Ellie who is brutalizing people in The Last of Us: Part II. We saw a member of the enemy faction disemboweling someone who was strung up on a rope. It was hard to watch. The Last of Us: Part II will no doubt continue to be controversial for its violence, but Naughty Dog surely has a story reason behind the gruesomeness, and we are eager to learn more.

E3 2018: All The PS4 Games From Sony’s Press Conference

When it comes to E3 press conferences, Sony often makes it a point to focus primarily on games, never spending too long talking in between reveals. While some years have varied due to the quality of the announcements, Sony has generally performed well with a bevy of unexpected reveals.

But this year’s presentation offered a substantial change-of-pace. Instead of announcing a laundry list worth of games, Sony instead focused on four of its biggest upcoming games.

As to be expected, famed developer Hideo Kojima intrigued audiences with the latest trailer for Death Stranding. We finally got debut gameplay footage of Ghost of Tsushima, the open-work samurai action game developed by Sucker Punch Productions–the studio behind Infamous and Sly Cooper. In addition, the new trailer for Spider-Man made us all the more excited for the game’s release this September. Lastly, we finally got a closer look at the The Last of Us: Part II‘s story and tense gameplay.

But there were plenty of other surprises too. Sony announced a sequel to Team Ninja’s samurai-action game, Nioh. It even debuted the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Resident Evil 2 Remake, as well as footage for Control–the latest game by Remedy Entertainment.

Sony’s E3 presentation was packed with exciting new details for its biggest games, as well as a variety of new ones. Be sure to click ahead to see everything that was shown. And if you’d like to catch up on everything that came from the briefing, check out our news roundup. In the meantime, which PS4 games are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments below.

E3 2018: Pirates Of The Caribbean Coming To Kingdom Hearts 3

Sony’s E3 2018 press conference gave us one more Kingdom Hearts III trailer. This time around, we got to see Captain Jack Sparrow and other Pirates of the Caribbean characters joining in on the story. The graphical style of this portion of the game shifts from the bright, cartoony look of the other worlds for a grittier, more realistic tone.

Seeing Captain Sparrow add his unusual mannerisms and playful personality to Kingdom Hearts III was a treat. The trailer offered up some surprisingly new gameplay: naval combat. Piloting the Black Pearl and firing upon enemy ships seems to handle a lot like the naval combat seen in games like Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag.

For every new trailer for Kingdom Hearts III, plus every announcement for every other game we heard at E3 2018, be sure to check out our E3 hub.

E3 2018: God Of War PS4’s New Game Plus Mode Confirmed

God of War is getting a New Game Plus mode, Sony confirmed during E3 2018. PlayStation boss Shawn Layden announced the mode during the weird intermission of Sony’s briefing.

He didn’t have anything more to say about what the New Game Plus mode will entail, but Layden confirmed that more news is coming soon. Based on the name, it’ll involve some way to replay the game while retaining elements of the progress you made during your original playthrough. Whenever more is shared, we’ll report back, but based on Layden’s comments, its release is not imminent. As such, it might be some time before we learn anything else.

God of War has been a critical and commercial success since it launched in April. The game sold more than three million copies in its first three days of availability, becoming the fastest-selling exclusive on PS4.
