Division 2 Patriot Gear Set Exclusive Look

The Division 2 release date is soon and we're taking a look at the True Patriot Gear Set. On PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

The Division 2 is on its way and we’ve gotten an exclusive first look at one of its gear sets, the True Patriot. In the first game, gear sets were special pieces of equipment that would give powerful bonuses if you collected and equipped all four pieces. They became especially important to the end-game content as Ubisoft continued to develop the game as a live service, and they’re back for the sequel.

The True Patriot is a support set that comes with three different kinds of debuffs: red, white, and blue. Red is the centerpiece of the debuff set, as it causes any enemy impacted by it to do less damage. The white debuff grants extra armor for any allies that hit an enemy painted with the red debuff. Similarly, the blue debuff speeds up your skill refresh for hitting enemies with the red debuff. Once you have all three going at the same time, the set of debuffs begins spreading to nearby enemies as well.

Not only that, but it looks awfully cool too. You can get a lengthy look at the set, along with its skills in action, in the video above. The Division 2 is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 15.

How did this turn into a microtransaction debate? You do know this is end game loot and not purchased right?

Not another micro transactions topic again. So tired of this debate. Nobody is making you buy anything. You killed BF2 with your whining about MTrans and many other games are just cranking out with little to no followup content.

Good job whiners.

@EricDWright: it's hardly the point with the majority of gamers' beef with the topic of MT. The argument is that paywalls, pay to win and unfair early purchases that give others a head start has nothing to do with value, but rather is simply a cash grab.

Saying that you dont have to pay for anything since you're not forced, well that would be fair if the game was either Free to Play, or it was marketed as an MT game, not a full priced game. But that doesn't mean that it can escape criticism as such a game either way. Without fair criticism, we just simply accept what's given and we'd probably never know better. It's usually a good incentive to be critically acclaimed, as long as websites like this and reviews remain important.

@Devils-DIVISION: I agree...but I don't think it was fair criticism. It was so hyped up and so many easily impressionable minds jumped on a protest, ban EA platform and looked what it caused. I really like BF2 and its kind of dead now because of the hypercritical responses.

@EricDWright:

100%. And oh there have been a few games that have been ruined by player criticism, and sometimes--at least I've noticed--players act like entitled twits. EA do cop it rather badly and sometimes unfairly. But they don't really help themselves much either.

@Devils-DIVISION: Totally agree. Have gotten off topic a bit but I am glad Div 2 went with a paid DLC model.

@johnnyc26: micro transactions aren’t going anywhere. For example everyone of you that whine about them there probably 2-3 who don’t care. EA alone made 800 mil just on fifa card packs. MT in games are fine if done right. Today’s games are bigger, cost more, and are still priced the same price for the last 12 years. So it’s either MT you can ignore or we pay $100 for a game or $130 when you add in dlc and season passes.

But not sure why people are mentioning MT because this article isn’t about a mt or even a preorder bonus. It’s about an armor set. But even if it was a preorder bonus you would still have the option to get it in game just as a dropped item. Saying these preorders are cash grab is right. They are used to entice players to preorder the game and get bonus or items earlier. Every company that sells something has a something they add to get you to buy their product. Whetherimg your are buying a house, car, music, game or anything if the seller can get you to order their product or buy their product by ordering a lower rate, early access, first come, and etc they will do it.

Man I love this game! Massive needs major praise for being so community oriented. Out of the three big publishers EA, Activision, and Ubisoft, Ubisoft seems to bring in the best talent and allow the developers more freedom. Anthem was fun until I realized it was a well polished turd.

@jaybass: yea Ubisoft has turned it around big time. Unity was a disaster and then Vivendi trying to force a buyout. Ubisoft brought From Honor back from death with great dlc that was free. The Division was revamp to a great game even though it had a good launch. AC series has just become a hit major hit again with the last 2 games. Plus, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is coming. A Warch Dogs 3. I’m also hoping for maybe a sequel to Mario+Rabbids.

With Anthem falling way short and pretty much a bomb. The Division 2 can do what it did last time and that was pick up the slack that Destiny left. With Destiny 2 being mediocre and Anthem shitting the bed The Division 2 can make a huge splash. If the demo is a snippet of what we are getting then we are in for a treat.

The only games that are cool are those that arnt released, or the betas. Because a game in development sounds better then the game your talking about. I don't care if it never releases at least I know it's in development.

@phili878: Personally I don’t, but yeah, cosmetic items are a big part of certain genres of game, epecially “looter shooters” like the Division. In Warframe they call it “fashion frame.” For many, it’s offers gives another goal to the end game. Something else to collect as you grind through content. I myself don’t quite get why people pay for it, but I think it is just related to that collecting: like you have most of the set so you buy the last piece kinda thing. I certainly don’t begrudge people for liking it. If they are having fun, that’s great.

For Devs it is awesome because they can make some extra money without upsetting game balance with “pay to win” items that grant gameplay bonuses. The Division 2 is cool because even the startingncharacters look great so

@phili878: lol have you ever play a game before? Cosmetic and the ability to dress and customize your own character is mandatory for a game where you can create your own character. Failing that and the game is slashed off as garbage instantly.

@phili878: Is that a real question? Why do you think loot crates and real money cosmetic items generate so much extra revenue for companies? Because MOST people care about how their characters look. And companies use that to their advantage.

@RELeon: yeah, exactly. Since gaming companies found out how easily amused the simpleton gamer of today is, they cut down on making actual good games in exchange of making skins so one can look bad ass in a crap video game.

@bongaconga: good lord some of you are insufferable. "Simpleton gamer. . ." huh? Way to pat yourself on your back.

And if you haven't played a "good game" since the advent of microtransactions, then you've obviously not played a game since the advent of microtransactions.

@bongaconga: Name one game in the early day of gaming (80s/90s) that is as good as the greatest game of the 10s?

It's called freedom of expression, you simpleton.

@cappy: I disagree on the games being better in the 10s than 80/90s part. Just to name a few: Deus Ex, I76, C&C games, Early Rainbow 6 games, etc, etc (I can go on forever), all of those games beat the modern games by a milestone in terms of content and it is getting tiresome how the new generation that had no clue what they missed always think that today's game are actually better. Even if a retro-gamer is a complete troll (like this bonga perhaps), statements however such as old games being better are nothing but the truth.

@phili878: Oh yeah, there are some amazing games in the past! Deus Ex, oh man! The first x-com was incredible. We could list so many. Some amazing games now too, though. God of War, Mknster Hunter, Witcher 3. It’s all pretty subjective though, so I do not see the point in trying to figure out which were better, you know?

It must be really hard for some younger gamers to see the greatness in those earlier games because the technology is so different now. And the great games of today are built on the shoulders of the great games of the past. Good ideas were carried forward and refined. I remember huge swatch’s of paper so I could map out zork. That game was a great experience, but I don’t think it’s possible for modern gamer to appreciate it in the same way. Having to make an actual map yourself? No mini map? Hell, just a text adventure? But I still remember rooms from zork to this day, can almost smell the moldy basement with a Grue hiding just out of site.

It can be useful to look at other arts forms that have similarities: Movies are another visual art form that have been extremely impacted by technology. It’s harder for modern viewers to look back at Charlie Chaplin or the original Hunchback of Notre Dame and see through the earlier technology and see their greatness.

@phili878:

Not sure why you’re upset about that. We look at our characters a lot in a 3rd person shooting game, so it makes sense people want them to look nice.

It’s like saying why don’t developers make every character in every game a faceless manikin with an orange jumpsuit, because who cares what they look like.

Visual aesthetic is an important part of game design.
