Beyond the fact that this is a videogame, I know nothing else about it after watching that trailer........ I mean, WTF!?!?!?! Still, after Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne and Sekiro, I'll give anything From Software does a shot!

Ah... it's nice to have big names backing the story and lore of a game and all, but... seriously, WTF was that?!

Sometimes these Asian ideas come with way too much incomprehensible stuff that's probably being sold to us, Westerners, with the mentality that "it's interesting mystery" or something like that, but no, it isn't. A mystery is only as interesting as its satisfying conclusion in the end, once you understand what it was all about. Adding a bunch of incoherent signs or things in a scene doesn't make it mysterious; it makes it just that: incoherent/incomprehensible.

It reminds me of the difference between the very first Silent Hill on the first PlayStation, which was a great horror mystery game with a clear objective and enough explanation for the mysteries going on, and pretty much all the sequels until the 11th or wherever we are today with SH, which are almost all a bunch of incoherent stuff jumbled together in a game. Just because it's ugly and scary, it really doesn't make it interesting in the horror genre. Heck, even when the serial killer in a horror doesn't have a clear motive, you can at least get the sense that their motive is sick fun... or something. However, when you don't understand anything of what's going on, or why weird creatures are the way they are, there's really no fun in that.

I really wish more Asian writers and designers understand this about most Western mentalities: We want a little bit to understand in the beginning (not nothing like in this trailer) and we want to understand pretty much everything by the end of it.

@yasso: Yeah. That's what Dark Souls was such a critical failure in the west. No one wants that shit here, clearly.

@jerusaelem: Dude, Dark Souls never pretended to be great in the story or lore department. Its reputation is that it is a well-made challenging game with very minimal story-telling. Westerners play it mainly because it's a challenge, and it's mildly fun combat. And even if there are lots of arguable points about Dark Souls, what's not arguable is that Dark Souls does not belong to the mystery genre or even the horror mystery genre, which are genres known for the importance of story-telling, which is what I'm talking about, how to tell a mystery or a horror mystery well to Westerners. Anyway, long story short, Dark Souls is out-of-topic, irrelevant, and the wrong number; please call the correct number.

The quality (or lack there of) of Game of Thrones aside, the lore of Game of Thrones was not particularly creative, just the late middle ages combined with a bunch of already overused Epic Fantasy tropes. You want to impress me, collaborate with Steven Erikson, Ian Esslemont or Brandon Sanderson.

@Vonhawkmoon: "Well, we have Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mind behind one of the most critically acclaimed fantasy/horror video games of all time and George R f'ing R Martin signed up. I don't see how this could POSSIBLY fail!"

"But...but sir...have we...have we consulted with Steve, yet?"

"Oh...my...god...THE JIG IS UP, BOYS! Call Martin and tell him we won't require his services. Steve isn't impressed!"

"ALL HAIL STEVE! READER OF SANDERSON! BEHOLDER OF TROPES!"

"Wait you idiots! Ritualistic chanting is ALSO a fantasy trope! Steve will NOT be impressed by this! We're all doomed!"

"'We're all doomed' is a trope as well, sir."

"Steve forgive us all..."

@Vonhawkmoon: I don't think they care about impressing you. I think they care a bit more about impressing the millions of potential customers who made GoT one of the most successful TV franchises in the last few decades. That's a guess though. Maybe they'll reach out to you soon and have you fill out a survey.

@Vonhawkmoon : Dude GOT and the books are miles in difference from quality. Check out Fire and Blood, and check out the wiki of ice and fire to see Martins skill at lore. The handling of lore, the history, and symbolism were the parts that the show absolutely bungled and inarguable inferior to back in.

@Vonhawkmoon: Bull if you said Game Of Thrones Lore, you are obviously lying!

And what would you know about the creative process behind this project? Miyazaki himself is a big fan of GRRM;

"I loved 'A Song of Ice and Fire' as well as the 'Tuf Voyaging' series, however if I had to pick a favorite I would probably say 'Fevre Dream.

'I personally see 'Fevre Dream' as a masterpiece among vampire fantasy and had even previously recommended it to all new employees."

The authors you mention may be great writers in their own right, but they wouldn't be a creative match for Miyazaki like GRRM is. Your opinion is as valid as anyone else, but I think is formulated very poorly.

Do your homework first, and realize that this is two creative geniuses coming together to do something only they can do.
