Netflix In August 2019 - Best New Movies And TV Shows To Watch!

Find out what shows, originals, and films are coming to the streaming platform in August as we list our top recommendations, including Mindhunter Season 2, GLOW Season 3, and The Dark Crystal Age of Resistance!

August is here, and while all of the summer's biggest movies have now been released, there are some highly anticipated new shows set to arrive in on Netflix this month. Among the releases are new seasons for two of its most popular shows, and a new prequel series to a cult '80s favorite.

Mindhunter was one of the most acclaimed shows of 2017, and it returns for a second season on August 16. The show is produced by Gone Girl and Social Network director David Fincher, and focuses on the birth of criminal psychology and criminal profiling at the FBI during the 1970s. Mindhunter stars Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany as special agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, and this season will revolve upon the real-life Atlanta Child Murders.

Another of Netflix's flagship shows is GLOW, which is back for Season 3 on August 9. This season sees the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling hit Las Vegas, and the cast features the welcome addition of Geena Davis. The last two seasons have been hugely entertaining mixes of drama and comedy, and this one should be no exception.

There are also two new shows arriving this month that are based on older properties. The Dark Crystal: The Age of Crystal is the prequel to Jim Henson's cult 1982 fantasy movie The Dark Crystal. Like the film, it uses puppetry to create a world of weird creatures and magic, and the amazing voice cast includes Taron Egerton, Mark Hamill, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Simon Pegg, Andy Samberg, Helena Bonham Carter, and Natalie Dormer.

Rocco's Modern Life is another cult title returning this month. The animated Nickelodeon comedy was cancelled after four seasons in 1996, but now it's back as a 45-minute special titled Rocco's Modern Life: Static Cling. Rocco and his friends have been lost in space for 25 years and returned to an Earth that barely resembles the '90s world they left behind. With creator Joe Murray writing and directing once more and Carlos Alazraqui and Tom Kenny back for vocal duties, this is a must-see for fans of the '90s favorite.
