Yeah, the good reason is that it's just not ready. Seriously Sony, just delay it a year and make it the system we all wanted.

@livedreamplay: I'll grant you, it is an assumption. But it's an assumption based on the fact that everything they've shown and how they've shown it looks patchwork and like it was slapped together last moment, down to the design of the architecture. I mean, the look of the Dualsense is the visual representation of patchwork.

@twogirlsonecub: Bro chill out. You know darn well that you have not seen enough to make a fair jugdement. An AMD Ryzen cpu looks good on paper vs Intel. However Intel still wins where it counts. AMD had to start catering to a totally different audience in order to get a buzz. Say whatever you feel. There is one thing that is certain, You do not know what Sony has in store.

@allencc3: Yeah, we haven't seen enough because Sony won't show much as PS5 just isn't ready and now they are afraid to show more because everything they have shown has been met with a mixed reaction at best.

Again, their best move is too just delay it a year and make it a truly great system. They don't have to rush to market just because Microsoft are ready to launch this year.

@twogirlsonecub: While I partially agree with you, you really need to realize something. Where Sony is being innovative with the PS5, Microsoft is not doing anything innovative at all. Its like all MS is doing is slapping more powerful hardware together, that is all. More power does not mean better console. Also, MS has had backwards compatibility for a long while. IIRC, it started with the 360. While at the same time, tradition is tradition. MS has never won when it comes to console wars, ever. Sony has defeated them time after time. Also, all of MS games are on PC, which will hurt their console sales. Why? I am a prime example. If MS shows some super tight game that I am interested in, I can still play it without owning an xbox. Lastly, I could go out and buy a rtx 3080 Ti if I wanted to. However, I will settle for a regular 3080. I think you may understand why. I have been 4k gaming for years and am simply over the hype. With that being said, game quality over graphic quality.

@allencc3: What is PS5 doing that's actually innovative because looking at a feature by feature basis Microsoft has them beat in that department. But more importantly they're offering things that gamers want not what they want gamers to want. Innovation doesn't matter if gamers don't want that innovation. Ie. Xbox One was very innovative and PS4 was a bare bones but better system.

Actually, Microsoft won the 360 generation. PS3 sold a few more units but Xbox 360 was a lot more profitable. But what does that have to do with the discussion?

PC isn't relevant to this discussion because to match XSX spec you'd have to spend about four times as much on a PC at time of release. Xbox isn't competing with PC. PC might be competing with Xbox but not the other way around. A console player who doesn't want to deal with the hassle and the hackers on PC won't spend four times the price of a console. And as a former PC player the logic of, "I'll get more expensive yet still weaker tech because graphics don't matter" is some serious nonsense. As a former PC player I want the best performance, input response, and visuals for the price and that's what the XSX offers.

As of right now, to me, the smart thing to do is get the better console for the 95% of games I play and then let Sony's library build up so I can play them in a better state on the PS5 Pro. That Sony, for the moment, lost someone who was a fervent PS4 supporter is telling of some sort of failure on their part.

@twogirlsonecub: I still don't see any new innovation coming from Microsoft. Point me in the right direction if I may be wrong. But all Phil Spencer is saying is 'power'. Power is not innovation. Heck, the controller will still use AA batteries. I am not seeing anything where MS is changing how we game for the next gen. Any new technologies they have hidden somewhere? Please educate me on MS new innovations. Thanks in advance.

@allencc3+: And yet you've failed to inform me of this great innovation that PS5 has.

Also, again, innovation doesn't matter if it's something gamers don't want. Ie. a more innovative Xbox One versus a somewhat boring but more powerful PS4.

Actually, my crappy rechargeable AA batteries last a lot longer in my X1X controller than the battery in my DS4 Pro. To the point where I end up keeping the DS4 plugged in most of the time. So that might not be a bad call.

@twogirlsonecub: Well the super fast data transfer rate is something new coming from Sony. This is a major step into something that may become a standard one day and may change the way games are developed. Also, the 3d sound tech that Sony is trying to implement. I know you have been gaming for years, just like me. Dolby Digital and DTS have been around forever and has not really evolved much. I too would like to hear a different sound implementation when I am gaming since I am a home theatre gamer. The sound and feel of bullets flying over your shoulder while playing a shooter is priceless. These are two examples of innovation that is currently being laughed at by xbox fanboys. While it may be laughable, xbox is not bringing anything new other than a faster cpu/gpu and savestates. Again, correct me if I am wrong. You failed to do so with you previous reply. Lastly, Steve Jobs said it best, people dont know what they want, you have to tell them what they want. With that being said, tradtionally, Sony sets the standards then MS follows suit.

@allencc3: But you just said yourself that power isn't innovation. Faster data transfer is essentially more power. Don't forget that Microsoft also has a fast SSD. Also, don't forget that the travel time from storage to RAM is only part of the path of the data getting to your screen. However, XSX has faster RAM, faster GPU and faster CPU once the data gets to them. And don't forget Microsoft have their own improved methods of memory management.

So in practice about the only advantage the 5.5 GB/s SSD might give Sony is games on PS5 will load a couple of seconds faster. The reason Sony keep hammering the SSD point is because PS5 loses on every other front. So they're hoping that one stat will fool enough of the kind of people who buy into stuff like "blast processors" and "emotion engines" to believe it makes all the difference.

Sure progress in audio is great but I think most prioritize performance and visuals over audio and feel like DD or Atmos is good enough. Again, this isn't a space that Microsoft neglect, they have their own audio chip but the reason they don't talk about audio much, unlike Sony who spent half an hour talking about HRTF or whatever, is because Microsoft understand that most people don't care. And this is coming from someone who games with headphones through an amp and is annoyed the XSX won't have an optical port.

Except like most aphorisms it only sounds true if you don't think about it. Because the majority of the time when a console manufacturer tries to tell gamers what they want it ends up really badly for them (except for Nintendo).

Actually, I'd argue that Microsoft had a bigger impact on modern gaming than Sony has, by a large margin as well. They made console architecture built from PC parts a standard that Sony is following into a second generation. They made western developed PC style gaming the dominant standard on consoles. They made online gaming the standard on consoles.

They're making keeping your library across multiple generations in enhanced form a standard. Which is something Sony claimed no one cares about meanwhile selling EMULATED versions of PS1 and PS2 classics on their digital store. Now they're forced to follow suit but are far behind the curve.

Microsoft even made storage a standard, which is kind of funny in light of this conversation. A double whammy of irony is that they made streaming media a standard when Sony were still trying to push Bluray.

Sony get credit for adding bonus games to the online subscription model but they dialed that back while Microsoft still offers games from previous gens.

And after the success of Gamepass Sony were forced to walk back on the cloudstreaming aspect of PS Now and invest in local play. So in reality it's Sony who follows in Microsoft's tracks.

Right, you still don't get it. This is not about faster loading screens. The 5.5 Gb/s will be used for loading textures on the fly. Faster loading of millions of textures that can be used to produce a draw distance further than XseX is capable of, on the fly. You should also know the the I/O Throughput of the XseX is 2.4 GB/s (Raw), 4.8 GB/s (Compressed), while the PS5 has 5.5 GB/s (Raw), up to 8-9GB/s (Compressed). This is a big difference and if used to full potential,

Sure progress in audio is great but I think most prioritize performance and visuals over audio and feel like DD or Atmos is good enough.

Remember what I said about gamers not knowing what they want? Sony is pushing to change the 'sound' aspect of gaming. However, you are just content with what you have currently. Is this how all xbox fanboys are? Did the box get you used to not accepting change or innovation?

@allencc3: Again, all that data still has to go to RAM and still has to get processed. It doesn't matter how fast it gets there if then it ends up slower. The SSD is not a RAM replacement which is why there still is RAM. The big benefit of an SSD for streaming bigger worlds is no seek time of a HDD and that's the same on Xbox as PS5. Again, the only benefit PS5 might see is in that initial load.

And remember me telling you about stupid aphorisms?

Sony is pushing the sound aspect because they are ironically tone deaf. Again, most people don't care about sound for a good reason which is that it's realistic enough and most stuff beyond Dolby Digital and Atmos is such minor gains the average person wouldn't appreciate the difference. There will never be as big of a jump in audio quality as the jump from rasterized graphics and ray traced graphics because it just isn't as complex as visuals and performance.

I mean most people play with the speakers that come built into their display. That in itself should tell you how much people care about sound quality. And Sony expects that people are going to care enough to invest in good cans to appreciate the minor benefit of their audio solution?

That's another big issue. is it's hard to convince people that you'll be getting better sound when they don't have the equipment to appreciate that. However, you can see the difference in last and next-gen visuals and performance on any display.

No I think the average person is like this. They prioritize stuff that matters over stuff that's clearly just marketing jargon to try and confuse the lesser informed into believing nonsense.

Now that I've pretty much debunked all your assertions and shone a light of reality on them you're running in circles, getting agitated and (as you have no real claims of substance) are resorting to baseless insults. So this is where I have to step away.

@twogirlsonecub: I don't get agitated at all. I don't even know you. All you are is text to me. You are not real. lol. But anyway, like we both agree on, you and I are different. I want more out of life but you tend to settle for what you have and are content with it. If we were talking about jobs, I would be aspiring trying to reach the top while you stay happy with midrange salary. From reading your comments, this is exactly how you sound. I don't care about better sound, I don't care about improvements, most gamers don't want anything. lol. Xbox got you stuck in the past, hence the backwards compatibility. Tell you the truth, I have not went back to play anything from 360/ps3 era. And.......I still have both a 360 and PS3. So backwards compatibility does not apply to me. You keep going backwards while we move forward. And I guess we can move on with our lives, knowing the facts of differences.

Stopped right there. Exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. How does it make sense that wanting a more powerful system that gives you a better experience holistically, actually gives you more content and easier access to said content, how is that wanting less?

That's not logic, that's saltiness at the fact that the real difference between us is I'm not a brand name whore, I go for the better product which is why I went PS4 at the start of this gen and I'm going XSX next-gen. You can't get over the fact that I recognize the inferiority of the PS5 and that the two things Sony spent an hour peddling (5.5 GB/s and HRTF) are more marketing than real world advantages.

And because every single claim you made has been refuted at the base level your lack of maturity and lack of ability at handling how wrong your view has been results in you trying to dismiss a position of superiority by invalidating the messenger since you don't have actual facts to do so.

Anyway, I was hoping that this engagement would somehow be enlightening for either party but all I learned was that you can take a Sony Pony to a well of knowledge but you can't make that stupid horse drink. I gave you the benefit of the doubt by reading your reply and I regret doing so, I won't be making the same mistake.

Sony failed to realized that in moments of crisis such as these with Covid19 and injustice against certain ethnic groups, there are still plenty of people in the country and around the world in the same circumstances that could have appreciated immensely of entertainment news at least to take their minds off of the ugliness in the world for at least an hour...instead Sony helped amplify that ugliness by putting a spotlight to it.

Them delaying their PS5 event wasn't even a good business decision as there are far more fans enraged by it than people comprehending two things that doesn't have anything to do with each other.

@johnny0779: Dude. Let it go. You don’t care about Sony making good decisions or not. Not in this case at least. You’re just upset you didn’t get to have fun sooner rather than later. It’ll happen. Relax. Meanwhile, the country is kind of on fire and we’re still in a pandemic. Let’s keep things in perspective and be thankful to be alive.

Honestly, I do realize the current situation, but people need good news from time to time, for morale. Its horrendous what happened to victims of Coronavirus and also what these disgraceful people did to Mr.Floyd. A moment of silence out of respect would have made more sense from Sony. Delaying a presentation that people are positively looking forward to is not! It feels more like Sony used this opportunity to delay the launch again because they were not ready!

I disagree, an online event cancelled for Americans while there are 194 other countries, I dont see events being cancelled for protests in Hong kong, war in the middle east, terrorist acts in Europe, humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, ethnic cleansing in Palestine, Uyghurs imprisonments in China etc

Cancelling this event is ironic.
