I hated this show. Every issue was resolved by a fight scene or shooting someone in the face and the plot literally boils down to super-weapon 3 times in a row.

Apparently holding a planet hostage with threat of genocide, letting a totalitarian rule, happen, instead of committing genocide is the Federation way? And the show celebrates this, and rewards a character who started a war, caused the death of multiple people and literally murdered a crew member by a beast out a cage?

About the only character that felt federation like, and likable for me was Michelle Yeohs original character, and they kill her off in about the first 30 minutes in a fight scene trying to emulate Star Trek 2009.

It seems to me Star Trek Discovery wants to be Battlestar Galactica, basically. But aside from high production values, it's not of that quality, that show was better written.

Changing the nature of the show isn't necessarily bad, Deep Space 9 done this, and although it was polarizing at first, it has since generally been considered the best show by many. But, that had excellent writing by and large.

That seems to be the biggest problem imo. or the future I think they really need to get new writers on board and make something meaningful than a shell with pretty fireworks.

@uninspiredcup: Season 1 of most Sci-Fi shows seem to be off be that due to excessive characterisation or unsure of which path it is taking and that can be said of Star Trek, current and past shows, as well. Sure, Discovery aimed a little too far towards the action and missed where the plot was concerned in the overarching storyline but, overall, I like the direction it is moving towards.

Season2 will be the true barometer of its worth and I, for one, am really looking forward to it. My initial thoughts on the show prior to it airing is that even a bad Star Trek is better than no Star Trek but I enjoyed it throughout despite it's niggles. Say what you will about it but, just from the passion in your post, I know that you'll be watching next season.
