Aquaman 2 Official Title Revealed By Director

Aquaman 2 officially has a name. In an Instagram post, director James Wan revealed that the Aquaman sequel will be titled Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

The Instagram post consists of a production meeting slide and Wan’s name and slide. Wan accompanied the image with the words, “The tide is rising.”

In the world of Aquaman, there are seven total kingdoms, each of which fragmented from Atlantis. Only six of the kingdoms have been shown to this point, making the missing kingdom a matter of speculation.

Interestingly, during the promotion of 2017’s Justice League, Aquaman was featured on a poster with the tag, “Unite the Seven.” Perhaps that’s what will happen in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? Or maybe it was just teasing a storyline that never made it into either version of Justice League. Such is the nature of the DC Extended Universe.

Either way, we at least know that Aquaman 2 will draw inspiration from the Silver Age Black Manta comics, and that it will feature “a little bit” of horror. Wan also says that it will be “a little bit more serious, a little more relevant in the world we’re living in today.”

The original Aquaman, which we called a “geeky epic […] chock-full of ridiculous elements,” was released in 2018. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom does not yet have a release date.
