Feels like they chose a pretty we weak slice of the game to show off.
Having played Everspace 1, the game is much more beautiful, fast paced and hard than what was shown here. Either the player didn't know how to play, or they chose poorly what to show, or they changed the game quite a bit.
@mboettcher: Everspace is more of a roguelike, so when you die, you get to keep the resources and experience you gain, but lose any items you've found, etc. The stages are randomly generated, and as you progress, each area gets more difficult. It rewards risk highly, so if you're ballsy enough to take out a tough enemy and make it out alive, it's worth it.
RGO is a spiritual successor to the story-based Freelancer (2003), where you can land/dock at certain stations, pick up missions, trade commodities, and explore a decently sized sector full with a handful of systems to explore, mine, protect, etc.
