Ubisoft Switch Sale Has Deals On Everything From Assassin’s Creed To Rayman

Ubisoft has been one of the Nintendo Switch’s biggest third-party supporters over the last few years, and there are a ton of different Ubisoft games on the system. Several of those are currently on sale via the Nintendo eShop, including Assassin’s Creed III: Remastered, Rayman Legends, Trials Rising, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle.

Hot off the heels of another publisher sale from Ubisoft, the new sale offers even more discounts on the company’s Switch games. Assassin’s Creed III: Remastered is only $16, while Trials Rising is only $6. Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, which is a tremendous and accessible take on the XCOM formula, is usually $60, but is only $15 during the sale. And for one of the best 2D platformers ever made, you can get Rayman Legends for just $10.

Other games included in the sale are South Park: The Stick of Truth and its sequel, South Park: The Fractured but Whole. The two games share the series’ signature visuals and writing, but the former game is a more-traditional turn-based RPG while the latter has some strategy and spacing elements, too. The games are $12 and $15, respectively.

You can also get a few other classic and gorgeous Ubisoft games via the sale. Valiant Hearts: The Great War is $5, and the adventure-puzzle game follows several people during World War 1 in an inspiring and heartbreaking tale. Child of Light pays excellent tribute to old-school role-playing games and is also $5.

You Can And Should Play Titanfall 2 For Free Right Now

These days, most players know Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends, but we shouldn’t forget the studio’s underappreciated masterpiece, Titanfall 2. Experiencing a surge in popularity after a recent tie-in with Apex Legends, the game is completely free to play for the next few days on Steam. You’ll get a chance to see some of the weapons and ideas that were eventually used for the battle royale game–but it’s more than just a stepping stone.

Temporarily free-to-play and returning to its normal price on May 3 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, Titanfall 2 features several different competitive multiplayer modes as well as a nearly perfect single-player campaign. It’s also included with EA Play, so if you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can play the game for no extra charge, too.

The campaign mode’s quality came as a bit of surprise given that its predecessor didn’t really have a campaign, and instead threw story moments into multiplayer matches. But Titanfall 2’s mix of heartfelt buddy moments, excellent action set-pieces, and tremendous level design helped to really elevate it. It also features one of the best time-travel mechanics in gaming, putting a unique spin on platforming.

In addition to delivering plenty of action over several hours, the campaign also prepares you for what’s ahead in multiplayer. Titanfall 2 refines the first game’s formula with buttery smooth shooting controls, wall-running, and high-flying maneuvers while playing as a normal Pilot. When you get into your Titan of choice, you have access to a ton of different options for customization and can stop bullets or fire missile barrages while stomping on the enemies around your feet. It’s tough to balance an experience like this, but Respawn nailed it, as you don’t feel invincible as a Titan and don’t feel helpless as a Pilot.

Titanfall 2’s critical acclaim at launch didn’t lead to super-high sales figures, as the game released during a very crowded period that included EA’s own Battlefield 1. However, the game’s increasing popularity recently could give Respawn thoughts of making another one, and according to EA, that decision rests with the studio itself.

Dragon Age 4 Concept Art Teases the Return of the Grey Wardens

New concept art for Dragon Age 4 has teased the return of the Grey Wardens – the order of warriors responsible for fighting back the darkspawn throughout Thedas.

Dragon Age 4 executive producer Christian Dailey shared this latest piece of concept art on Twitter, and it follows a couple others from Dailey that showed off a mage in a rain-drenched alley in Minrathous and a helmeted archer in a fractured world.

While its unclear if these are teases for characters we may encounter or play as in Dragon Age 4 or just a peek into its creation, it’s always exciting to see something new related to this much-anticipated game.

For those unfamiliar, Grey Wardens are an order of elite fighters that work to defeat the Archdemon and save the world from the Blight. Players became one of these Grey Wardens in Dragon Age: Origins and Anders from Dragon Age 2 has connections to them as well. They also played a role in Dragon Age Inquisition and players had a hand in deciding some of their fate.

A book from BioWare confirmed that Tevinter is one of Dragon Age 4’s main locations. The headquarters of the Grey Wardens – Weisshaupt Fortress – is just due west of the Tevinter Imperium and may very well be another location we visit when Dragon Age 4 is released.

While we still have no release date or official title for Dragon Age 4, The Game Awards 2020 gave us a glimpse into its world and revealed some  returning characters and a greater sense of the art style.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Launch Update Is Reportedly Huge, Patch Notes Leak

Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which packages up upgraded remasters of the first three Mass Effect games as well as (almost) all of the DLC, is coming on May 14. However, it appears we already know what’s coming in the game’s day one update: performance tweaks, lighting improvements, and quite vague “miscellaneous content fixes.”

First noticed by Twisted Voxel, Mass Effect Legendary Edition’s Patch 1.1 has already gone live on PlayStation servers. On the update’s page on Orbis Patches, it comes in at 11.8 GB and brings with it a set of changes that isn’t too surprising for a day one patch.

The patch notes, which are quite sparse, reveal a handful of tweaks to make the game run better. These include stability improvements, bug fixes to prevent crashes, and lighting improvements. Finally, the patch also brings benefits to ambient occlusion, a graphics feature that increases the realism of shadows and lighting.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, although there isn’t a specific PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version just yet. You can preorder Mass Effect Legendary Edition now, and you can currently grab the game for $10 off at Newegg. The Legendary Edition brings a sweeping graphical overhaul to the series, and it also implements a number of combat and gameplay improvements to make the mechanics more consistent and modern across the games.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Patch 1.1 Notes:

  • Improves performance
  • Improves stability and fixes crashes
  • Improvements to Ambient Occlusion (AO)
  • Lighting improvements–both visual and performance-related
  • Miscellaneous content fixes

Totally Real (Read: Absolutely Fake) Animal Crossing: New Horizons Game Is On The Microsoft PC Store

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the biggest Nintendo Switch games in recent years, but as with any exclusive, there are people out there who try and take advantage of folks who don’t necessarily know about the exclusivity. A fake New Horizons title is currently being sold on the Microsoft PC storefront, and it’s not even trying to be a clone–it’s just a straight-up rip-off.

Surfaced by Nintendeal on Twitter, the Microsoft Store New Horizons game is going for just $3 right now, but we cannot recommend highly enough that you do not purchase it. First, it’s almost certainly a copyright infringement on Nintendo’s property; second, if the screenshots are anything to be believed, the gameplay doesn’t resemble Animal Crossing in the slightest. If anything, it looks like a clone of the 2014 hit mobile game Crossy Road.

A search on the Microsoft Store shows that this isn’t the first time that this studio has attempted to steal imagery from other games in its marketing. There’s also a title called Craft Imposter Among that–you guessed it–uses knock-off Among Us-esque art. It, too, isn’t anything like Among Us.

Instances like this aren’t anything new; rip-off and cloned games have been a problem for digital storefront owners for years. Microsoft itself has had to crack down on fake games in the past, like a rip-off Pokemon game. However, these sorts of issues have generally been more common on mobile platforms.

If you haven’t played the real Animal Crossing yet, the only place to buy it is on Nintendo Switch. It’s a great game, though: GameSpot gave the game a 9/10 in our Animal Crossing: New Horizons review, praising its crafting system, improvements to villagers, and character customization.
