Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Doesn’t Have Microtransactions Or Multiplayer, Says Respawn Boss

Respawn boss Vince Zampella has confirmed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a story-driven, single-player game. There will be no multiplayer to speak of, and no microtransactions either.

On the Star Wars Celebration Day 1 live stream, Zampella said, [Jedi: Fallen Order] is a single-player story game… No multiplayer, no microtransactions. It’s a story game.” Zampella’s words were met with applause and shouts of joy. This echoes Jedi: Fallen Order writer Chris Avellone’s earlier comments, when he said story is “very important to Respawn.”

“I hope [the six writers] are listed in the reveal because I accidentally said ‘I’ve wrapped this up,’ but there are other writers and I’m not even the lead guy,” Avellone said. “Story was very important to Respawn. I think they do a good job of introducing various narrative layers into their games already, but they think the story is an important part of what they perceive to be a Star Wars game. That’s one of the reasons I like Respawn, because when they tackle something like that, they understand what the important points are.”

The Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords writer has said he’s done with his portion of Jedi: Fallen Order’s story. “I think they brought me on because I have a pretty strong Star Wars pedigree so I’d probably be able to just jump right in,” Avellone continued. “And I was, which was good. It didn’t require a ton of new research.”

Jedi: Fallen Order was revealed during E3 2018, and Zampella said the Star Wars game is set after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. You’ll play as a Jedi Padawan that escaped Order 66, and you’ll have access to a lightsaber. Respawn is expected to announce further details about Jedi: Fallen Order during a panel at Star Wars Celebration on April 13 at 11:30 AM PT / 2:30 PM ET / 7:30 PM BST.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is currently scheduled to release Fall 2019, presumably for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Some art for the game has already been leaked. Despite not knowing much about it, there are quite a few people and places we want to see in the game.

18 Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise Of Skywalker Photos From The Celebration Panel

With many months to go before it hits theaters, we’ve now learned a lot about the upcoming Episode 9 of the Star Wars franchise. For instance, it actually has a title now. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker arrives in theaters in December, but at the Star Wars Celebration convention in Chicago, fans were given their first taste.

In addition to the title reveal, the first teaser trailer for the film was debuted–which posed a lot of questions–and plenty of information was shared by director JJ Abrams, including that we’ll see a time jump at the start of the film. In addition to all of that, though, fans in attendance at Celebration were shows a slew of images from the film’s production, giving first looks at a variety of characters and alien species they’ll see in The Rise of Skywalker.

GameSpot’s Mat Elfring is on the scene at Celebration and managed to document what was shown during the panel. The Resistance Is On a Mission in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sees a return of the whole gang, but it’s Poe Dameron in particular who must deal with the struggle of finding a way to lead what little is left of the Resistance. The Last Jedi showed just how hot-headed and insubordinate that Poe could be, but by the end he seemed to have learned some lessons from both General Leia and Vice Admiral Holdo on how to be a leader. Hinting at Poe’s eventual rise to a leadership role, while under siege in the base on Crait, Leia even says to the last few Resistance soldiers, “What are you looking at me for? Follow him!” IGN talked to actor Oscar Isaac at Star Wars Celebration Chicago about how his character carries those lessons of leadership into The Rise of Skywalker. It’s especially difficult because, as he explains, Leia is no longer with them.

Star Wars: Was Palpatine Hiding in Snoke All Along?

The Star Wars sequels may have killed off some of our favorite heroes from the original trilogy – Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, even Admiral Ackbar – but one major villain is being given another shot at life. The first teaser trailer for Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker ends with the reveal that Emperor Palpatine is still alive. (Or at least he’s in the movie in some way, even if he’s not technically, you know, alive!)

Assuming he’s not a Force Ghost, how can he still live? Can even a Sith Lord survive being tossed down a chasm and exploding? If the old Expanded Universe stories are any indication, this is just par for the course for Palpatine.

How George Lucas Helped Finish Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The new teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker features quite the surprise: as the trailer comes to a close, the screen cuts to black and our ears are filled with the cackling of Emperor Palpatine. It’s a laugh cold enough to send shivers down your spine and a character inclusion crazy enough to make your head spin. He met his electrifying end in Return of the Jedi, after all. IGN talked to director and co-writer JJ Abrams at Star Wars Celebration Chicago about how the iconic villain came to be a part of the film, and his answer included a meeting with the Maker himself, George Lucas.

Lucasfilm Planning Entirely New Star Wars Saga After Episode IX

The end of the Skywalker saga doesn’t mean the end of the Star Wars franchise by any stretch. That’s the takeaway from a new interview with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s working with directors David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Rian Johnson to plot out an entirely new saga that will unfold over the next decade.

“This

is the culmination of the Skywalker Saga; it’s by no means the culmination of Star Wars,” said Kennedy. “I’m sitting down now with Dan Weiss and David Benioff… and Rian Johnson. We’re all sitting down to talk about, where do we go next? We’ve all had conversations about what the possibilities might be, but now we’re locking it down.”

It is a huge week for Star Wars. Aside from the first teaser trailer for Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker dropping, there is a whole convention in Chicago happening around Star Wars fandom called Celebration.

During the weekend, you can find out news about the upcoming final chapter in the Skywalker saga, and soon, we’ll be learning more about the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, as well as the upcoming EA game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Keep checking in with GameSpot over the weekend to learn more.

However, the one thing that really wowed us at Celebration was the fantastic cosplay from con-goers. The amount of time and detail put into these costumes was unbelievable. It’s honestly the best cosplay at any convention. Throughout the weekend, we’ll be posting some of the best costumes we saw at Celebration Chicago, and here’s what we saw on the first day.

Facebook Mistakenly Hid ‘Easter Egg’ Phrases in Oculus Touch Controllers

Facebook accidentally added some “easter egg” labels on tens of thousands of Oculus Touch controllers, including such phrases as “Big Brother is Watching” and “This Space For Rent.”

Nate Mitchell, co-founder of Oculus and head of VR product at Facebook, took to Twitter to explain this issue and said that while he does “appreciate easter eggs, these were inappropriate and should have been removed.”

These labels made it onto the internal hardware of the Oculus Touch VR controllers, with final production hardware saying “This Space For Rent” and “The Masons Were Here.” Some dev kits were sent out, which were non-consumer units, and included the phrases “Big Brother is Watching” and “Hi iFixit! We See You!”
