Call Of Duty Mobile Is Out Now On iOS

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s October 25 release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One approaches, publisher Activision has announced that a mobile version of its popular first-person shooter is available now on iOS.

Call of Duty (Mobile) is a free-to-play CoD experience “brimming with content” from both the Black Ops and Modern Warfare series, according to a press release from earlier this month. It is said to feature a fully-customizable control scheme, multiple game types, well-known characters and weapons, and a Battle Royale mode. The game is currently available now on iOS devices, with Android launching sometime soon. Activision previously stated that Call of Duty: Mobile will launch on both Android and iOS on October 1, so Android users should expect it soon.

Game modes like Gun Game, Search and Destroy, and Team Deathmatch will all make an appearance in Call of Duty: Mobile. Additionally, maps such as Hijacked and Nuketown will be playable in the game.

Call of Duty: Mobile ships with a Battle Royale mode on a “huge and unique open map.” You can play in Single-, Duo-, or Quad-player squads in either first- or third-person. The Battle Royale mode will feature locales from across the Call of Duty universe and you will be able to select one of six available classes before jumping in.

The game launched in Australia earlier this summer. We were able to sit down with Activision’s Vice President of Mobile, Chris Plummer, to talk about the company’s intentions with CoD Mobile, its general position on mobile games, and the ever-contentious microtransactions present in gaming.

Overview Of Apex Legends Season 3’s New Map, World’s Edge, Revealed

Respawn has released the overview look of Apex Legends Season 3’s new map, World’s Edge. The map will replace Kings Canyon at the start of Season 3, which is scheduled to begin on October 1.

Based on the overview, it’s difficult to tell just how much bigger World’s Edge is to Kings Canyon, though after playing on the new map we estimate it’s about two to three times larger. The map is divided into three parts, with the top right portion of the map themed around ice–the Epicenter operating as the major landmark. The bottom part of the map is themed around fire, with two major landmarks: Thermal Station and The Dome.

Snaking between both sections, and extending from the top left of the map down to the middle right, is an urban-like environment. It’s here that you’ll find the train that travels throughout the map–providing a means for squads to bunker down while still remaining on the move. The train seems to travel between Skyhook (teased in Cryptos’ first in-game appearance), Capital City, and Sorting Factory with about a half-dozen smaller landmarks scattered along the track.

A new map isn’t the only piece of content dropping into Respawn’s battle royale during Season 3. Apex Legends is also getting a new playable character (Crypto), weapon (the Charge Rifle), hop-up attachments, golden armor effects, and battle pass. The content won’t stop there, though, as Respawn has already hinted at an upcoming Halloween-themed limited-time event. The developer has also teased Apex Legends’ twelfth character, who is likely scheduled to release at the start of Season 4.

Apex Legends is available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Obsidian Entertainment developed Fallout: New Vegas, one of the most beloved entries in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic series. In many ways, The Outer Worlds is seen as somewhat of a spiritual successor. In addition to it being an FPS RPG, The Outer Worlds’ has a cast of colourful companions that may just be the best part of the game.

The Outer Worlds is also set to release for PS4 and Xbox One on October 25, with a Switch version coming later. The Nintendo Switch port is being developed in partnership with Virtuos, the studio behind other Switch ports like Dark Souls Remastered and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, both of which were excellent conversions of those classic games.

Finally, The Rock Has Come Back For The Smackdown On Fox Premiere

It’s been over three years since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared on WWE programming. However, finally The Rock has come back home. Johnson announced himself, via Twitter, that he will appear on the first episode of Smackdown on Fox, which airs live on Friday, October 4, and serves as the 20th anniversary celebration of the show.

“There’s no greater title than [The People’s Champ] and there’s no place like home,” Johnson wrote. He also offered to buy everyone tequila after the show. Don’t get your hopes up, though, as the likelihood of him driving to every house with a bottle of his own special brew is unlikely.

The Rock’s appearance is only one of many special things WWE had planned for the first episode of Smackdown on Fox. Also scheduled to cameo on the show are Kurt Angle, Lita, Mick Foley, Booker T, Hulk Hogan, Trish Stratus, Goldberg, Jerry Lawler, Mark Henry, Ric Flair and Sting.

Additionally, WWE has lined up quite a card of matches for the evening. WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will defend his title against Brock Lesnar in Lesnar’s first non-PPV match since 2004. The show will also see Kevin Owens take on Shane McMahon in a ladder match and Roman Reigns go head-to-head with Erick Rowan. The final match announced thus far features WWE Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch teaming with Charlotte Flair to take on the team of WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Bayley and Sasha Banks.

WWE Smackdown premieres Friday, October 4, at 8 PM ET on Fox.

Stranger Things Creators Making New Shows And Movies For Netflix

Twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer are perhaps best known for their hit TV show Stranger Things on Netflix. Now, the brothers are branching out with new content for the network.

Netflix announced that it has signed the Duffer brothers to a “multi-year” deal that will see them create new movies and TV shows for Netflix. This is an “overall” deal, which means the Duffer brothers are working exclusively with Netflix, and the network may or may not own the IP rights to whatever the create for the streaming giant.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with them to bring their vivid imaginations to other film and series projects our members will love.”

He added: “We can’t wait to see what The Duffer Brothers have in store when they step outside the world of The Upside Down.”

The brothers, meanwhile, said they are “thrilled” to be working with Netflix on new shows and movies. The first of the new projects will be Stranger Things 4. The first teaser for the fourth season suggests the story may stray away from Hawkins, the town that has been the setting for the past three seasons. At the same time, the statement from the Duffer brothers specifically mentions that they are excited for their “return trip to Hawkins.”

Before finding success with Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers sold a script for the post-apocalyptic horror movie Hidden to Warner Bros. Additionally, The Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan brought on the brothers to write episodes of the show Wayward Pines.

Stranger Things was released in 2016 to much praise. A lawsuit that claimed the Duffer brothers stole the idea for Stranger Things was dropped just days before it was due to go to trial.

Overwatch Characters In Smash Bros.? “I Think That Would Be Awesome,” Dev Says

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

When Blizzard’s popular hero shooter Overwatch was announced for Switch, some fans wondered if any of the game’s 31 characters might make the jump to Nintendo’s own popular fighting game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character.

Nothing is confirmed one way or the other as of yet, but now, one of Overwatch’s developers has spoke about the idea of Overwatch characters in Smash.

Speaking for himself, principal game producer Wes Yanagi told GameSpot that he would be floored to see an Overwatch character duking it out with the cast of Smash.

“As a player and big fan of [Smash], I think that would be awesome,” he said. “It would be an honour if Nintendo chose to bring one of our characters into Smash Bros.”

Five DLC characters are included with the Smash Bros. Ultimate Fighters Pass. Three of these, Joker, Hero, and Banjo & Kazooie, have already been released. The next will be Fatal Fury’s Terry Bogard, with one more unnamed character to come later in the Pass. During the September Nintendo Direct, the company confirmed that it will release even more new DLC characters once the Fighters Pass roster wraps up.

In April this year, Nintendo executive Reggie Fils-Aime (who has since left the company) told IGN that Smash director Masahiro Sakurai’s aim with Ultimate’s DLC is for the new characters to be “unique” and “different.”

Fils-Aime explained that Sakurai and the team working on Ultimate’s DLC don’t necessarily see characters from franchises not typically associated with Nintendo as a limiting factor when it comes to Smash Bros.

So far, there have been no rumors or reports about an Overwatch character coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC fighter. It’s still intriguing to think about, especially now that Yanagi has commented about it.

Overwatch launches for Switch on October 15. It includes all the content from the other versions, including all 31 heroes, 28 maps, and game modes. Keep checking back with GameSpot this week for more from our interview with Yanagi about on Overwatch for Switch.

New Nintendo Switch Update Out Now, Here’s What It Does (Not Much)

The newest Nintendo Switch update has arrived, but do not expect much from it. Version 9.0.1 is very basic, as it’s focused on improving general system stability and simple bug fixes.

Specifically, the 9.0.1. update fixes an unspecified “issue” that could lead to errors in gameplay. It also fixes a bug that caused the system to tell people to remove the Joy-Con when setting up their Switch Lite for the first time.

This is the first new Switch firmware update since 9.0.0 earlier in September. That update was far more substantial, as it introduced a number of new features, tweaks, changes, and fixes. One of its biggest fixes was for a Fire Emblem: Three Houses bug that prevented the game from booting.

You can see the full 9.0.1 update notes below, as posted on Nintendo’s website.

Nintendo Switch 9.0.1 Update:

  • Resolved an issue that may have triggered errors during game play.
  • Resolved an issue that may display an instruction to remove the Joy-Con during the initial setup of Nintendo Switch Lite.
