Halo Infinite: See How They Captured The Weapon Sounds

Halo Infinite is one of 2020’s most anticipated games, but information about it largely remains a mystery. Microsoft hasn’t shared many details about the story or multiplayer, but the company has been slowly revealing details about the process of recording the game’s sounds.

This continued recently, as developer 343 Industries posted another behind-the-scenes look at how the team captured some of the game’s weapon sounds. A new Instagram video from the Halo account shows members of the audio team firing a variety of weapons–including pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The video also shows the audio team capturing the sounds of various explosions.

A second video, which you can see further down the page, shows the Halo Infinite audio team capturing vehicle sounds using a 1972 Chevy El Camino SS.

Halo Infinite Weapon Sounds

These are just the latest behind-the-scenes videos from 343. In 2019, the developer shared a video of a cute little pug whose snuffs and scruff sounds will be put into Halo Infinite.

Halo Infinite releases in Holiday 2020 as a launch title for Microsoft’s next-generation console, Xbox Series X, as well as PC. The game will also be playable on Xbox One as well as the other variations of the next-generation Xbox that might be coming.

Who Won The 2020 Oscars?: Parasite Takes Home Four Awards

At the 2020 Oscars, one movie was the talk of the town. While Joaquin Phoenix taking home the Best Actor award for Joker was a big moment, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite won four awards during the evening, more than any other film this year. You can find all the winners and losers for this year’s Academy Awards below.

Like last year’s event, the award show for achievements in film will go without a host. It will be an evening celebrating the highs in Hollywood and global cinema from big budget feature films to eye-opening short documentaries to costume and makeup design and everything in between.

Throughout the evening, GameSpot kept track of the winners and the losers from this year’s Academy Award ceremony. There were some memorable moments during the evening–like the audience reactions to Eminem’s performance. But there wasn’t anything that topped the classic moment when Life is Beautiful won the award for Foreign Language Film in 1999, and director and star of the film Roberto Benigni walked on the back of people’s seats.

Below, you’ll find the winners and losers for the Oscars as they happen. The categories and nominations will be listed, and the winners will be in bold. Keep coming back to GameSpot throughout the night to see if your favorite movies, actors, writers, editors, etc got Hollywood’s most-important award of the year.

Friends TV Show Reunion: Here’s The Huge Amount Of Money Each Star Is Being Paid

A reunion special of the TV show Friends has been in the works for a long time, and now it seems to be one step closer to becoming a reality. Deadline reports that the six stars of the original show have reached a preliminary deal to make the one-off special for streaming network HBO Max.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry have come to an agreement with Warner Bros. for what is rumored to be an hour-long special. Negotiations were described by Deadline as “tough.” Negotiations between the actors and the network reportedly stalled at the end of 2019, due in part to issues related to money.

The six stars are said to be paid between $3 million-$4 million each for the show. The total cost of the show is $20 million, according to Deadline. The site points out that, while this is a jaw-dropping sum, it’s actually in line with what Netflix pays for its top-billed hour-long comedy specials from the likes of Dave Chappelle, Ellen Degeneres, and others.

Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane are also said to be involved in the reunion special. The report also says the special will be a launchpad of sorts for the return of Friends for streaming. The show was removed from Netflix at the end of 2019, and it will come to HBO Max at some point in the future, likely in time for the HBO Max launch in May 2020.

WarnerMedia reportedly paid $85 million per year to get Friends for a period of five years.

Some people have balked at the hefty price tag for one hour of TV, but digital media strategist Matthew Ball points out that Friends remains an incredibly in-demand, attention-grabbing franchise that can demand such a high price tag.

As of 2015, the show was bringing in $1 billion every year from syndication, with all the main stars making $20 million a year from that based on their 2 percent share of syndication revenue, according to USA Today.

Birds Of Prey Has Worst Box Office Opening Ever For A DCEU Movie

Birds of Prey opened to a smaller-than-expected box office number that makes it the worst opening ever for a DC Extended Universe film. The movie pulled in $33.2 million in the US for its opening weekend, and that’s the lowest-ever for DC’s recent film universe.

It’s not the absolute worst of all-time for a DC comic book movie, however as the Josh Brolin 2010 movie Jonah Hex only made $5.3 million for its US opening. But it’s the lowest for the DCEU that began in 2013 with Man of Steel.

The Birds of Prey box office opening is well below the $50 million-$55 million it was projected to make, and also below Warner Bros.’ own more conservative $45 million figure. Worldwide, Birds of Prey has now made $81.2 million worldwide, which is significantly below the $110 million that Warner Bros. was expecting.

Deadline, which supplied all the box office numbers, reports that Birds of Prey will likely struggle to reach $100 million at the US box office. One finance source told the site, “Overall, it’s bad.”

Birds of Prey had a $97 million budget, which comes down to $84 million with California’s tax credits applied. This does not include marketing expenses, however.

Deadline also reports that the first cut of Birds of Prey “tested really poorly.” As such, DC movie executive Walter Hamada ordered reshoots that got the movie in a better place.

Birds of Prey carries an R-rating and it released in February, and both factors could have limited the film’s box office results. By comparison, the PG-13 rated Suicide Squad, the film that Birds of Prey is spun off from, made $133 million in the US for its opening weekend during summer 2016.

Birds of Prey’s slow start came as a surprise, as the movie fared well with critics and carries a strong B+ CinemaScore rating.

In GameSpot’s review of Birds of Prey, Meg Downey said, “It’s the sort of kinetic, high energy romp that comes with built-in replay value, and proves exactly why Harley Quinn has become such an endearing, beloved character in the pop-culture pantheon. If this is the direction the DCEU is headed, the future’s looking bright.”

For more on Birds of Prey, find out more about the ending of the movie, whether or not Joker is in the movie, and the connection to Harley’s first appearance in Suicide Squad.

System Shock 3 Team ‘No Longer Employed’ Report Says

The entire team behind the upcoming System Shock 3 is “no longer employed” at developer OtherSide Entertainment, according to a report from VideoGamesChronicle.

This follows previous reports of other core members of the team announcing their departure over the past five months, including System Shock 3’s writer and director, lead programmer, and others. Just this week, design director Chase Jones changed his LinkedIn profile to reflect the end of his time at OtherSide.

The anonymous source also stated that System Shock 3 was “critically behind” in its development. We last saw how the game was progressing in a gameplay trailer released back in September 2019, which showed off the return of the iconic gaming villain/rogue A.I. SHODAN.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/11/system-shock-3-gameplay-trailer”]

An anonymous poster claiming to be a developer from OtherSide posted on RPG Codex, explaining some additional background info.

“The only reason I’m posting is because I saw so much confusion about the state of the company and the project I thought some first person information would be welcome,” the user wrote. “I never suggested we were halfway done, core systems are a great foundation for a game but most of the work is content development which we were critically behind in, both in real assets and in tool support for an efficient pipeline.

“Was the failure of the project right? It’s hard to say. If Starbreeze hadn’t gone into crisis I think we would’ve delivered something interesting with some fresh and innovative gameplay, but a much smaller game than what people were expecting and inevitably disappointing for a sequel to such a beloved franchise.

“Those high expectations drove a lot of expensive experimentation. We were a small team and knew we couldn’t compete with current immersive sims in production quality and breadth, so we had to be creative and clever and weird. And we were on our way to make something unique and possibly fun, but probably not what the audience was hungry for.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=all-the-big-games-coming-in-2020&captions=true”]

The user also shared that they “don’t actually know what’s going on, but the team is no longer employed there,” and refrained from commenting further over concerns they may break their non-disclosure agreement.

Adding some legitimacy to the report, VGC cites a community manager that confirmed the poster’s comments.

System Shock 3 appears to be the victim of both the woes of its former publisher Starbreeze and its own difficulties in finding a new publisher. Starbreeze reported back in mid-2019 that it would soon experience a “liquidity shortfall” following poor sales of Overkill’s The Walking Dead game and a subsequent raid performed by law enforcement after indications of insider trading.

Starbreeze decided to sell off the publishing rights to System Shock 3 back to OtherSide in order to raise the desperately-needed cash it required to continue operations.

 [ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/03/02/system-shock-remastered-official-early-pre-alpha-trailer”]

With OtherSide seemingly now floating in the ether, creative director Warren Spector (System Shock, Deus Ex, Epic Mickey) told VGC that the company was in talks with a “lot” of interested publishers. That was back in May 2019. He told VGC that the company had enough capital to fund itself for a period of time, and was also considering self-publishing System Shock 3.

IGN has reached out to a third-party PR company that previously handled communications for OtherSide for comment. We’ll update this story as we learn more.

The remaster of the original System Shock is still on our list of games we’re most looking forward to in 2020. Developer Nightdive Studios is handling work on that.

Robert Downey Jr. Reveals the Other Avenger He Would Like to Have Played

Obviously, at this point, it’s impossible to imagine star Robert Downey Jr. playing anyone else but Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tony was the jumping off point for the franchise and that character’s fate in Avengers: Endgame capped off a decade-long saga.

But if Downey Jr. could have played someone else in the MCU, who would it have been? While promoting his latest movie, Dolittle, the actor sat for BBC 1 Radio and answered questions from kids – ranging from “What was the best birthday party you’ve ever had?” to “Have you ever peed in a swimming pool?”

William, age 10, however asked Downey Jr. if we wasn’t Iron Man, which superhero he’d like to be. The answer was “I can’t think of any red-blooded American boy that didn’t imagine themselves as Spider-Man growing up.”

“However,” Downey Jr. added, “looking back on it now —- also because I’m just such a Jeremy Renner fan, and he made it so cool, particularly when he turns into Ronin [in Avengers: Endgame] —- I would say Hawkeye would be my go-to.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=marvel-cinematic-universe-every-upcoming-movie-and-tv-show&captions=true”]

The next stop in the MCU is Black Widow, due out May 1, featuring Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff returning to her clandestine assassin roots to battle the mysterious Taskmaster.
