LeBron James’ SpringHill Entertainment and Vertigo Entertainment are in talks to produce a reboot of the classic Friday the 13th, THR has confirmed.
Although the popularity and success of the Halloween sequel could be a factor for the interest in the Jason franchise, legal issues are partially at play. Last month, original screenwriter for Friday the 13th, Victor Miller, won a legal battle for the rights of the franchise.
Although Miller was awarded the copyright, director and producer, Sean Cunningham, could still appeal. Another layer is that it is unknown who holds the rights for the character of Jason Vorhees.
