Vin Diesel Says Fast & Furious Tension With Dwayne Johnson Was Due To ‘Tough Love’

What happens when an unstoppable force meets and immovable object? Just ask Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, two of the biggest men in Hollywood–in every sense. The two have allegedly been feuding for years after butting heads during filming of Fate of the Furious, and now Vin Diesel is offering his first comments on the matter in a new interview with Men’s Health.

“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character,” Diesel says in the interview. “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer to say, Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know—Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”

Now Playing: F9 – Official Reveal Trailer

Word of the feud first started to emerge in 2016 during the filming of the then-upcoming Fast & Furious 8 when Johnson posted to Instagram about his time on the film, commenting on the professionalism of the crew and his female co-stars, while saying that his male co-stars were “a different story.”

“Some conduct themselves as stand up men and true professionals, while others don’t,” Johnson continued. “The ones that don’t are too chicken s**t to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling–you’re right.”

When asked about his time on Fate of the Furious and the absence of any shared screen time, Johnson said that “that is correct. We were not in any scenes together.”

“Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer. And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating,” Johnson said at the time. “It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.”

Most cast members have stayed quiet about the feud, though Tyrese Gibson, who plays Roman Pierce in many films throughout the series, threatened to quit the franchise if Johnson was involved in Fast9. Michelle Rodriguez, meanwhile, said in 2019 that “boys will be boys,” adding that “There’s always some sort of conflict when tribes meet and they get bigger. I think that’s the world, that’s globalization. We’re seeing it right now with nationalism, all over the planet. So I’m not surprised that the tribe back home is arguing too!”

The ninth Fast & Furious film, F9, hits U.S. theaters on June 25, 2021. Ahead of the release, make sure to check out our review, and get caught up on everything we know about the film.

Yooka-Laylee Is Being Made Into A Board Game

Yooka-Laylee is the latest game to get the physical board game treatment. Announced today by Game Decks and Limited Run Games, the colorful mascot platformer franchise will be transformed into a board game that uses a deck of cards to create a board that looks different every time you play.

According to IGN, the board game will feature the titular duo of Yooka and Laylee. Players will use quills to buy power-ups like Glide, Reptile Roll, and Honey Puddle that you can use to get around easier than your opponents. The board will be hand-painted, and has several other characters from the game franchise, such as Blasto and Trowzer.

Now Playing: Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair | GameSpot Live

The Yooka-Laylee board game will launch at Limited Run Games on June 29, and is exclusive to that storefront. Additionally, a new soundtrack album for the game series will be sold with the special edition version of the game, titled Yooka-Laylee Capital B-Sides. That soundtrack will include ten new tracks written exclusively for the tabletop game. There’s also a even more limited “gold edition” of the game, which features alternate pieces.

The latest entry in the series is Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, which released to positive reviews back in late 2019. Unlike the original Yooka-Laylee, Impossible Lair is a 2D game that is often compared to the Donkey Kong Country franchise.

Microsoft Appears to Be Rolling Out Xbox Series X Server Blades For Cloud Gaming

Update: A Microsoft spokesperson told IGN, “We’re continuously testing new features and making improvements to create a better Xbox Cloud Gaming experience. We’ll have more to share soon about the upgrades we’re making to our Microsoft Datacenters.”

[poilib element=”accentDivider”]

Without any official notice, Microsoft appears to be rolling out Xbox Series X server blades on its Xbox Cloud Gaming streaming service.

A welcome surprise for many users today who spotted the difference, Microsoft seems to be upgrading its current Xbox One S server blades, which launched with Xbox Cloud Gaming back in September, to the company’s newest and most powerful console, the Xbox Series X.

The screenshot above is a shot of Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox’s cloud gaming service seemingly using Xbox Series X server blades. The tell here is that the “Prioritize Resolution” graphics mode states that the mode will “run the game at 120 fps, lowering resolution if necessary.”

Rainbox Six Siege can be played at 120FPS on Xbox Series X, but the game can’t be played at 120FPS on the Xbox One S, leading many Twitter users like Klobrille, pictured below, to believe that Microsoft is now rolling out Xbox Series X server blades.

Klobrille says the game feels great on the Xbox Series X cloud gaming server blades, a sentiment echoed by many other eagle-eyed players on Twitter today. Twitter user Sephamus said that after logging out and logging back in to Black Desert, the game was “suddenly loading and performing 10x better.”

Another Twitter user, T3CHFX, said the same can be said for Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

By upgrading from Xbox One S server blades to Xbox Series X server blades, Xbox Cloud Gaming users will see better resolution, better performance, and more graphics-related options than seen in Xbox One S versions of games.

Microsoft has not officially confirmed whether or not such a server upgrade is rolling out starting today, but the proof is there. While waiting to learn more, read about how Microsoft plans to bring Xbox Series X|S exclusives to Xbox One consoles via cloud gaming and then check out this story about Xbox Game Studios hiring Portal’s Kim Swift as its new senior director of cloud gaming.

xCloud Xbox Series X Boost Is Live For Some Games

Microsoft’s xCloud service has started getting Xbox Series X hardware upgrades for some games. As reported by Tom Warren from The Verge, some games on the cloud streaming service like Rainbow Six Siege and Yakuza: Like a Dragon now load faster and have options for Xbox Series X enhancements like improved graphics and frame rates.

GameSpot has confirmed that Rainbow Six Siege has an option for improved frame rates–up to 120Hz–and Yakuza Like a Dragon has an improved graphics option as well on the cloud service. Gears 5 also has improved loading times, with it taking less than 10 seconds to load into a campaign mission on the xCloud version.

It is not immediately clear how many games are now running off Xbox Series X hardware for cloud streaming, although Microsoft said that it is planning to transition the entire service over. Microsoft said less than two weeks ago that it was in the final stages of adding Xbox Series X server racks to its data centers. Microsoft has not made any official announcements about Xbox Series X servers being live for xCloud at this time.

During that same announcement, Microsoft said it was working on getting the service built into TVs and planning to bring the service to new regions, like Australia, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan later this year.

Pokemon Go July 2021 Community Day: Shiny Tepig, Event Move, Bonuses, And More

Pokemon Go‘s July Community Day is set for Saturday, July 3, Niantic has announced. The featured Pokemon this time around will be Tepig, the Fire-type starter from Pokemon Black and White, and there will be a few other bonuses to take advantage of during the event. Here’s everything you need to know about July’s Community Day.

July 2021 Featured Pokemon: Tepig

The featured Pokemon for July’s Community Day is Tepig, the Fire-type pig Pokemon from the series’ Gen 5 installments, Pokemon Black and White. Like other starter Pokemon, Tepig is fairly uncommon in Pokemon Go, but it will appear in the wild much more frequently than usual during the event.

July's featured Pokemon, Tepig
July’s featured Pokemon, Tepig

On top of the increased Tepig spawns, you’ll have a better chance to encounter a Shiny Tepig during the event. Shiny Pokemon are generally quite rare in Pokemon Go, but you’ll increase your chances of finding a Shiny Tepig if you use an Incense.

July’s Community Day Move: Blast Burn

This month’s special Community Day-exclusive move is the Fire-type Charged Attack Blast Burn. If you can evolve a Pignite (Tepig’s first evolution) into Emboar either during the Community Day or up to two hours afterward, it will automatically know Blast Burn. This is currently the only way Emboar can learn this move in Pokemon Go, so if you’re hoping to add it to your moveset, you’ll need to catch plenty of Tepig during the event to stock up on enough candy to evolve it.

July’s Community Day Hours

As usual, July’s Community Day will run for six hours, from 11 AM to 5 PM local time. This means you’ll have until 7 PM local time to evolve Pignite into an Emboar that knows Blast Burn.

July Community Day Bonuses

Beyond increased Tepig spawns, Niantic is offering a few other bonuses during July’s Community Day. First, the developer will roll out a paid Tepig-themed Special Research story during the event called Roasted Berries. To gain access to the story, you’ll need to purchase a virtual ticket from the in-game shop for $1 USD.

On top of that, Niantic will sell another special Community Day item bundle during the event. The bundle will be available to purchase in Pokemon Go’s in-game shop for 1,280 PokeCoins and comes with the following:

  • 50 Ultra Balls
  • 5 Incense
  • 5 Star Pieces
  • 1 Elite Charged TM

Finally, any Incense and Lure Modules that you use during July’s Community Day will remain active for three hours rather than the usual 60 minutes, and you’ll earn triple the usual amount of Stardust when you capture Pokemon. You can read more details about the event on the official Pokemon Go blog.

Get A Massive 4TB Samsung SSD For $100 Off During Prime Day

By far the worst part of PC gaming is running out of space to store your games, but thanks to this Prime Day 2021 deal, those problems may be a thing of the past. Amazon currently has a sale on Samsung 870 QVO SATA SSDs, including their 4TB SKU, which is currently at a historically low price. This is a Prime-exclusive discount that ends tonight alongside the sale.

A massive 4TB of SATA SSD storage will cost you just $322 today instead of $430, making for a total discount of 25%. If a drive that large isn’t what you’re looking for, other sizes are on sale as well. The two terabyte model is currently on sale for $180, down from $220, while the one terabyte version will only cost $90 instead of $120. If you really, really need a ton of storage, you can also get the eight terabyte model of Samsung’s 870 QVO SSD for $100 off right now, although that still leaves its price at a whopping $750.

You may be looking for extra drive space during this year’s Prime Day and noticed that hard drives are much cheaper per gigabyte than these SSDs. However, there’s a good reason for that. Hard drives are, first and foremost, much slower than SSDs, whether they’re SATA or NVME. Hard drives also have a tendency to fail if they’re moved around too much, whereas digital drives simply don’t have that issue. If you’re storing things en masse, absolutely purchase a hard disc drive. But if you want your game to load quickly, there’s no better option than an SSD. Regardless of what you need, there are plenty of Prime Day storage deals to look through.

A ton of other computer gear, including headsets, microphones, and monitors, are on sale today as part of Prime Day 2021. If you’re looking for something to pick up, we have an updated list of the best Prime Day deals still available on Tuesday.
