Sea of Thieves Update Adds Captain Jack Sparrow with Pirates Of The Caribbean Crossover coming June 22

Xbox’s swashbuckling, multiplayer action game Sea of Thieves is bringing a new captain on board: Pirates of The Caribbean’s Jack Sparrow. Announced during the Xbox-Bethesda E3 2021 showcase, the Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life expansion is a free update for the game boasting new environments, new enemies, and a brand-new Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off story. Best of all, this free update arrives on June 22.

True to Sparrow’s nature, the story follows the washed-up pirate as he faces the consequences for stealing something he shouldn’t have. As a result, undead pirates rise from the depths, followed by bloodthirsty mermaids and even Davy Jones himself. With several classic Pirates of the Caribbean characters and bits making a return and a chance for players to spend even more time in the Sea of the Damned, the free update appears to have something for all players, regardless of their familiarity with the franchise.

Xbox Mini Fridge Gets “World Premiere” Trailer At E3 2021

Microsoft is really leaning into the meme that the Xbox Series X looks like a fridge. The company capped off its E3 2021 briefing on Sunday with a brand-new trailer for the Xbox Mini Fridge. Yes. Really.

The “world premiere” trailer spotlights the fridge and its design for the first time. Honestly, it’s a delight. “For the first time in Xbox history, a new system that leaves others cold,” says the text in the hype video below, which stresses that the fridge is, in fact, a real thing that Microsoft will sell.

The design of the fridge is what you’d expect–it looks just like the Xbox Series X itself, except it’s a fridge. It appears to be able to hold about 10 12oz cans. Check out the trailer for yourself below.

There is no word yet on the release date or price for the Xbox mini fridge, but the trailer says it’ll arrive sometime this holiday alongside Halo Infinite. This is not the first Xbox fridge that Microsoft has created, as the company also made a full-size model and sent it to Snoop Dogg.

Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2021 briefing also included the announcement of Forza Horizon 5 and a release date for Starfield–which is exclusive to Xbox and PC. We also got to see Halo Infinite multiplayer for the first time and learned more about its maps and modes.

Redfall, A New Xbox Exclusive Shooter From Arkane, Coming In 2022, Revealed At E3

Microsoft closed out its Xbox/Bethesda E3 2021 presentation with the reveal of a brand-new title from Arkane, the studio behind Dishonored and Prey. The game is called Redfall, and it’s coming exclusively to Xbox in 2022.

Billed as an open-world co-op shooter, Redfall casts players as a ragtag team of heroes who are fighting to drive back a legion of vampires. The reveal trailer was reminiscent of Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood, showcasing the different characters working together to eliminate supernatural foes.

Now Playing: RedFall Cinematic Trailer | Xbox + Bethesda E3 2021

According to the official Redfall website, the game “blends single- and multiplayer options seamlessly.” You’ll be able to venture off solo or with a team of three other players. The vampires besieging the city are the result of a scientific experiment gone awry, and you’ll need to contend with various mutations–as well as human cultists supporting them.

Redfall is being made in collaboration with Evan Narcisse, a former game journalist and comics writer who created Rise of the Blank Panther.

Redfall is slated to release exclusively for Xbox Series X|S and PC in Summer 2022. Like other first-party titles, the game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. You can check out the first trailer for Redfall above.

Microsoft showcased a ton of other games during its Xbox/Bethesda E3 2021 presentation. In addition to Redfall, we got our first look at Starfield, Bethesda’s first new IP in more than 25 years, as well as multiplayer gameplay from Halo Infinite. You can catch up on all the biggest news and reveal in our Xbox/Bethesda E3 showcase roundup.

Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct presentation isn’t until Tuesday, and that’s fine. We can wait. OK I lied, I can’t wait. I’m very excited. Ahead of Nintendo’s Direct and Treehouse presentation on June 15, Amazon is running an absolutely stellar deal on Nintendo Online Family memberships right now. Seriously, this deal is one of the best Nintendo Switch deals I’ve ever seen, and who knows how long it will last. I recommend grabbing it sooner rather than later.

The Best E3 2021 Trailers (So Far)

E3 2021 has finally kicked off, which naturally brings with it a ton of new game trailers. Pre-E3 events like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest and Tribeca Games Spotlight have proven to be exciting platforms to see some awesome trailers for upcoming games, but now that the event has started, we’re compiling some of the season’s biggest trailer highlights for your viewing pleasure. Below you can find all the biggest and best trailers to come out of and around E3 2021 so far.

To keep up with GameSpot’s ongoing coverage of E3 2021, check out our Play For All event hub, where we’ll be posting all the latest stories the moment they get announced. You can also read our E3 2021 schedule, so you don’t miss out on all the upcoming press conferences.

Elden Ring (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC)

Summer Games Fest ended with a bang, revealing to the world the premiere gameplay trailer of From Software’s long-anticipated Elden Ring. Like previous reveals from the acclaimed developer, this one offered an intense look at the daunting new challenges that await players when the game finally arrives in January 2022. And yes, you read that right: Elden Ring has a release date.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut (PS5)

In usual fashion, Hideo Kojima appeared as a special guest on Keighley’s Summer Games Fest stream to surprise folks with a trailer announcing Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. While the trailer offered no indication of what exactly this new PS5 version will offer, it was, at least, a highly entertaining callback to Kojima’s previous work on Metal Gear Solid.

Far Cry 6 (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, Stadia, Luna)

Leave it to Giancarlo Esposito to always provide a riveting performance anytime he appears on screen. It was no different in this uncomfortably tense Far Cry 6 trailer shown during the Ubisoft Forward 2021 stream.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope (Switch)

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is getting a sequel in the form of Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and the debut trailer for the game reminded us again how shocking it is that this crossover works so well.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora (TBA)

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was a pleasant surprise to see at the end of the Ubisoft Forward 2021 stream. Set in the world of James Cameron’s massively popular film franchise, the upcoming game seems like one of the most ambitious movie game adaptions that Ubisoft is making yet.

Trek To Yomi (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC)

If you’re into classic samurai cinema, then Trek to Yomi may pique your curiosity. This upcoming 2.5D side-scrolling action game has an aesthetic that’s evocative of the film genre’s finest.

PS5-Exclusive Godfall Coming To PS4 This August

During its E3 2021 presentation, Gearbox Software announced that its looter-slasher Godfall will hit PS4 on August 10 after originally being exclusive to PS5 and PC.

Godfall‘s PS4 release also comes with a free update called Lightbringer. This piece of content adds an endgame mode to the looter-slasher that offers over 40+ pieces of new gear and skills. Additionally, the PS4 release ships alongside Godfall’s Fire and Darkness expansion, which takes you to some fire realm to fight bosses and acquire, you guessed it, even more loot.

Gearbox also announced that matchmaking is coming to Godfall soon and that PS4 players will be able to upgrade to PS5 at no additional charge.

In case you don’t remember, Godfall is Gearbox’s looter-slasher that launched on PC and PlayStation 5 back in November 2020. It was one of the few PS5 exclusive games that showed the system’s graphical prowess. We scored the game a 5/10 in our Godfall review, calling it “a shallow game bolstered by decent combat that struggles to bear the weight of an entire game.”

Mario + Rabbids 2: Sparks Of Hope Leaked On Nintendo’s Own Website Ahead Of Ubisoft Forward At E3

It appears one of Ubisoft’s announcements for its Ubisoft Forward event at E3 2021 today has leaked ahead of time. Nintendo’s own website has been updated with a listing for the unannounced game Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for Nintendo Switch.

The sequel is coming in 2022 with characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and more. They’re on a “galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save your Spark companions.” The game’s description adds: “Explore planets throughout the galaxy as you uncover mysterious secrets and compelling quests!”

There will be nine characters in all (at launch, at least), along with new bosses and “some familiar enemies” to battle. Players will be tasked with rescuing “adorable Sparks” who live in the galaxy, and who give you “distinct powers” to use in battle.

You can see some of the screenshots from Sparks of Hope in the gallery above. It’s expected that Ubisoft will formally announce the game during its Ubisoft Forward event today, June 12. Keep checking back with GameSpot for more.

The first entry in the Mario + Rabbids series, Kingdom Battle, launched in August 2017.
