Marvel’s Avengers will have new content coming for years after launch, Square Enix announced during its E3 2019 livestream broadcast today. The game’s narrative will play out over the course of “multiple years,” it was said, with players assembling into teams of up to four, online, as they build out their characters, customize them, and learn new abilities. Players will work together to defend earth from all kinds of evil threats.

To make sure everyone can play together, Square Enix is offering all post-release superheroes and regions for free. Not only that, but the game won’t have random loot boxes or pay-to-win scenarios, the publisher said.

It was also confirmed that Marvel’s Avengers is being developed across a suite of studios, including Eidos Montreal, Crystal Dynamics (including its new Crystal Northwest studio), Nixxes Software, Marvel Games, and a team at Square Enix.

To close out its E3 2019 press conference, Square Enix finally took the wraps off its long-awaited and much-rumored Avengers game. After a few cinematic trailers, a chat with the voice cast, and more, the company announced a release date: May 15, 2020.

A cinematic trailer showed the basic premise of the game: the Avengers become hated after an attempt at heroism somehow goes awry and results in mass casualties, but of course they come back together. The playable characters include five key Avengers characters with notable voice actors behind the roles: Captain America (Jeff Schine), Iron Man (Nolan North), Hulk (Troy Baker), Thor (Travis Willingham), and Black Widow (Laura Bailey).

The studio also promised an online co-op component, letting you team up with three friends to fend off increasing threats. It also promised the roster of heroes would grow over time with free DLC, and no random loot boxes.

It will launch on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia, though Square Enix says it has entered a partnership with PlayStation for early beta access and bonus surprises.

Tokyo RPG Factory’s next game Oninaki finally has a confirmed release date. Announced earlier this year, the game is set to launch on August 22, 2019.

Oninaki is the latest game from Tokyo RPG Factory, a Square Enix studio committed to creating classic-style RPGs. Unlike the studio’s previous work on games like I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear–which utilized the active time battle system made famous by classic Square Enix RPGs–Oninaki is an action-RPG.

The game’s combat revolves around exploring an ethereal realm and saving lost souls, which each grants you unique attacks and abilities in turn. As protagonist Kagachi, you explore the realms of life and death to accomplish this philanthropic goal. All the while, you’re exposed to an even more profound mystery within the realms you explore.

During E3 2019, Square Enix finally released a trailer for the long-awaited Marvel’s Avengers. The trailer did have some gameplay, but it’s still very unclear what type of game Marvel’s Avengers is.

The game’s been previously marketed as an action game, and there are definitely moments of explosive action and combat in the trailer. We see Iron Man dodge missiles and fire his repulsers at tanks, Hulk smash those same tanks, and Thor calling down the lightning and crushing people with Mjolnir. Captain America and Black Widow even get a few moments where they take out some enemy grunts.

So there is action, but it all seems rather scripted. It’s a bit difficult to tell where the gameplay moments end and the cutscenes begin. Frankly, the trailer is reminiscent of Order: 1886. Which isn’t bad necessarily, but that didn’t seem to be the type of game that Square Enix had advertised before tonight. In a panel description for Marvel’s Avengers, the game was described as “the defining Avengers gaming experience: an epic action-adventure.”

But that adventure seems restricted to a single forward plane. The characters aren’t moving around a space. The trailer suggests the Avengers are each confined to tackling enemies and obstacles in a very specific order. Hopefully, we’ll have a much better understanding of what Marvel’s Avengers is when we see it at E3 this week.

The story was a bit more clear at least. The trailer showcases Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow become ostracized from society after failing in a mission that costs the lives of innocents. However, the world still needs avenging and so the group decides to unite one more time. They’re joined by other ex-Avengers, such as Hank Pym, aka Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Yellow Jacket/Goliath.

Square Enix showed off an extensive look at Marvel’s Avengers during its E3 2019 presentation. Along with a glimpse of some footage of the game in action, we also learned who voices the game’s Avengers ensemble.

The third-person action game stars Jeff Schine as Captain America, Laura Bailey as Black Widow, Nolan North as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Travis Willingham as Thor, and Troy Baker as Bruce Banner. Many of these actors have collaborated before. Laura Bailey, Nolan North, and Troy Baker lent their voices to the critically acclaimed Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End as Nadine Ross, Nathan Drake, and Samuel Drake, respectively. Both Jeff Schine and Troy Baker appeared together in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Troy Baker stars in a lot of video games, so it’s no surprise that he is also in Catherine: Full Body alongside Travis Willingham.

While it won’t launch until next May, a pre-release beta is on the way sometime in the near future, with PS4 getting first access to the game.

Marvel’s Avengers finally has a release date, set to launch on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 15, 2020. It will also feature free post-launch DLC and no loot boxes or pay-to-win scenarios.

Marvel’s Avengers is getting a pre-release beta, and PlayStation 4 users will get a crack at it first, Square Enix announced at E3 2019. The game’s Twitter account confirms that a PS4 owners can play the beta first.

Pre-ordering gets you into the beta. There is no word as to when the beta will begin, how long it will be exclusive to PS4, or what it will contain, but keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest. Square Enix and PlayStation are working together for “awesome surprises” for the PS4 edition of the game, according to Square Enix.

Marvel’s Avengers launches on May 15, 2020. Release is just the beginning, as Square Enix says fans can expect a regular stream of new content over time, all of which will be free.

Well, Square Enix sure did have a lot of Final Fantasy announcements at their E3 2019 press conference. Final Fantasy VII: Remake, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, more stuff about Final Fantasy XIV, and, as you’ve probably guessed, a remastered version of Final Fantasy VIII, coming to every current-generation platform.

Revealed in a trailer, the re-release of the teenage angst-filled RPG will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. We saw footage of some of the game’s most iconic scenes and characters, which will certainly hit you in the nostalgia bones if you actually liked this entry for some reason.

Final Fantasy VIII is notable as being the turning point where the series dramatically increased its audiovisual production fidelity and art style, featuring realistic character designs and vocals in its soundtrack. It also made some highly contentious design decisions, namely a unique magic system which did not use a traditional MP gauge and required you to “Draw” spells from enemies. However, Final Fantasy VIII did have one of the series’ most beloved side activities, a card game called Triple Triad.

There was plenty more stuff revealed during Square Enix’s press conference, and not just Final Fantasy stuff–we also got a good long look at the new Marvel’s Avengers game.

During the Square-Enix E3 2019 press conference, the publisher unveiled the debut trailer for Outriders, the next game from Bulletstorm developers People Can Fly. This isn’t the first time we have heard of the game, as Square-Enix offered up some teases of the game in the weeks leading up E3. On Twitter, the publisher posted a mysterious video of a character awakening from Cryostasis. There wasn’t much to make from the short tease then, but we now know what it’s about.

At the press conference, studio head of People Can Fly, Sebastian Wojciechowski took to the stage to talk about what the game us all about. Outriders is a co-op action shooter set in a hard sci-fi universe. Taking place on the planet Enoch, a ragtag crew of fighters work together to battle hordes of enemies. While you can play solo, the game also features drop-in, drop-out co-op play–letting up to 3 players take part in the various missions and events.

According to the developers, it’s a game that they wanted to make for a long time, which pulls upon their years of experience making shooters. In a press release for Outriders, the CEO of People Can Fly, described the game as being a fairly ambitious project, which totally seems to be in the developer’s wheelhouse.

“Outriders is the game that we have been wanting to make for years,” said Wojciechowski. “We’re very happy to be working with Square Enix on this project, it’s a big undertaking for us and the team has grown considerably to work on the Outriders project. We now have over 200 developers at four international studios working on this project to make it our most ambitious shooter to date. We’re very excited to finally unveil Outriders to the world, and we can’t wait to show you more of the game.”
