Monster Hunter World Anniversary Event Now Live On PS4, Xbox One, And PC

Monster Hunter World launched one year ago this month, and Capcom is celebrating the occasion with a special in-game anniversary event. The Appreciation Fest is now underway on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, bringing a new assortment of gear to craft, Event Quests to undertake, and more.

The Appreciation Fest runs until February 21. Throughout the event, the Gathering Hub will be decorated with balloons, confetti, and other party favors. All facilities will also offer discounts on in-game items and services, and a special appreciation platter will be available.

Capcom says “almost all” past Event Quests will return during the Appreciation Fest, giving you another opportunity to obtain special gear you may have missed out on. Additionally, there will be new quests featuring even larger and more fearsome versions of monsters, such as the Greatest Jagras. You can find the full Event Quest schedule on the Monster Hunter World website.

Capcom is also offering daily login bonuses and new limited bounties to complete during the Appreciation Fest. These will get you Appreciation Tickets, which you can use to craft the Gala Suit for your hunter and the Star and Star α gear for your Palico. The Handler and Poogie will also have festive new outfits during the event.

You can find more details about the Appreciation Fest here. There is plenty more new content on the way to Monster Hunter World this year. On February 8, The Witcher 3’s Geralt of Rivia will arrive in the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game as a free update (with a PC release set to follow later). Capcom will also release a big Iceborne expansion for the game this fall, which will introduce new monsters, locales, gear, and much more content.

The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part Review

The LEGO Movie was one of the biggest surprises in recent memory, a film which was obviously made to sell toys, but which also turned out to be sidesplitting, intelligent, and genuine. It’s one of the best animated movies of the decade, but there’s a downside to The LEGO Movie: it raised the bar so high that the sequel can’t reach it.

It’s not for lack of trying. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is an ambitious film, with complicated storytelling techniques and thoughtful messages about growing up and opening your mind to new ideas. But the ending of the first film dropped a bombshell that changed the way we look at this series, and there were some unexpected side effects on the sequel.

The History Of Kingdom Hearts

It’s been almost 17 years since the first Kingdom Hearts released for PlayStation 2. While the series may go down in infamy for its, let’s say, difficult-to-follow plot, you can’t deny the impact it has had on its legions of fans. From its beautiful music to its positive messaging about the importance of friendship–and the marriage of two huge franchises–Kingdom Hearts has been a mainstay in millions of people’s lives for almost two decades.

With Kingdom Hearts 3‘s release almost upon us, the video above takes a look back on the history of the series, from its infamous elevator pitch in the building that Disney and Square Enix used to share to the impact it’s had on its millions of fans.

Kingdom Hearts was originally inspired in part by Nintendo’s seminal 3D platformer, Super Mario 64, and some key figures in its creation include Final Fantasy VIII producer Shinji Hashimoto and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi. Of course, the series vision and came from Final Fantasy VII character designer Tetsuya Nomura, with Kingdom Hearts being the first game he would direct.

In the video above, you can learn all about the development of Kingdom Hearts, from its main series entries to its numerous handheld spin-offs. If you’re looking to get caught up on the story so far before you jump into Kingdom Hearts 3, be sure to check out our extensive recap. You can also check out GameSpot’s review of Kingdom Hearts 3. We gave the game 8/10, calling it “a heartfelt tale of enduring friendship.”

Opinion: Star Trek: Discovery Isn’t the First Trek That Took a While to Find Its Feet

Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is in full swing now, and the series suddenly feels like it’s on solid ground. When Discovery debuted in 2017, some Trek fans like myself found it to be, frankly, a mess. Opting for a darker tone – complete with ratcheted-up violence and actual cussing – the first season sought to be a gritty war drama stuffed to the breaking point with harrowing revelations, sudden murders, and, most notably, an alteration (welcome or unwelcome, depending on who you ask) of the diplomatic and egalitarian philosophies that had marked most of Star Trek up to that point.

Some fans enjoyed the 180-degree about-face for Star Trek, while others felt that Discovery was too different an animal to be considered alongside reliable favorites like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Having grown up on TNG, I have always been an acolyte of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (a Picardian perhaps?) and I am endlessly pleased to see DS9 having a proper renaissance these days; some hardcore fans even place DS9 at the top of the Trek canon now.

Metro Exodus PC Specs Have Been Revealed

4A Games has released the PC specs for Metro Exodus, the upcoming third entry to the studio’s Metro series. The developer outlines the exact requirements your machine will need to meet in order to achieve minimum, recommended, high, or extreme performance.

Metro Exodus minimum graphical requirements are a tad higher than what you’d see in most games, running at an average performance of 30fps at 1080p. But the game will run on an Intel Core i5 processor and you don’t need a Windows 10 OS. The same cannot be said for recommended performance or higher. To get 60fps or anything higher than 1080p, you’ll need Windows 10 and your PC will need to at least be running on an Intel Core i7 processor.

The full list of specs for each level of performance are listed below, and can also be seen in a comparison chart on Metro Exodus’ main website.

Minimum

  • Average Performance: 1080p at 30fps
  • Graphics Settings: Low
  • OS: Windows 7, 8, or 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4440
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: GTX 670, GTX 1050, or Radeon HD 7870
  • VRAM: 2 GB
  • Direct X: 11 or 12

Recommended

  • Average Performance: 1080p at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: High
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • GPU: GTX 1070, RTX 2060, or AMD RX Vega 56
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Direct X: 12

High

  • Average Performance: 1440p at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: Ultra
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: GTX 1080 TI, RTX 2070, or AMD RX Vega 64
  • VRAM: 8 GB
  • Direct X: 12

Extreme

  • Average Performance: 4K at 60fps
  • Graphics Settings: Extreme
  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-9900K
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • GPU: RTX 2080TI
  • VRAM: 11 GB
  • Direct X: 12

We’re excited for Metro Exodus based on what we’ve seen so far, despite the risky new direction for the series with the addition of large open spaces. The game still feels at its best when it sticks to its roots and puts you into cramped, enclosed locations, though.

Metro Exodus releases for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on February 15.
