PSA: Demon’s Souls Online Servers Shutting Down Soon

From Software’s acclaimed precursor to the Dark Souls series, Demon’s Souls, is set to lose some of its online components very soon. While the PS3 action-RPG will continue to remain playable offline, its online services will cease on February 28, which will render many of the game’s unique features inaccessible.

Starting February 28, players will no longer be able to take part in online co-op or invasions when playing Demon’s Souls. Additionally, leaderboards, wandering silhouettes, other players’ bloodstains, and hints and messages written by others will all also disappear from the game, while a specific boss battle that involved fighting another player will function differently going forward.

News of Demon’s Souls’ server shutdown was first announced back in November on the official Dark Souls Twitter account. “It’s with mixed emotions we say goodbye to the service,” Atlus, which published the game in North America, wrote on its website. “Thank you to everyone who played Demon’s Souls, and especially to those who still revisit its world from time to time. For those who haven’t played in a while, we invite you to once again visit Boletaria while the servers are still live and celebrate its contributions with us.”

Demon’s Souls first launched exclusively for PS3 nearly nine years ago, back in 2009. The game was met with widespread acclaim from fans and critics. GameSpot awarded it a 9/10 in our Demon’s Souls review and called it “an uncompromising RPG of the highest order–and a brilliant, atmospheric, and visionary one.”

While Demon’s Souls never received a proper follow-up, the game would go on to spawn several spiritual successors, including the three Dark Souls titles and the PS4-exclusive Bloodborne. Bandai Namco is releasing a remastered version of the first Dark Souls for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on May 25. Ahead of its release, Titan Comics is publishing the first issue in its new Dark Souls tie-in comic series.

Nostalgia Alert! 2018’s Top 25 TV Anniversaries

With so many new scripted shows on the air (making it very hard to choose what to stick with) that people are now just watching old E.R. episodes on Hulu instead, maybe it’s a fine time to look back and revisit some TV classics.

There are plenty of iconic shows to celebrate in 2018 – from modern giants like Breaking Bad to iconic sci-fi series like The X-Files and Deep Space Nine. There’s the bloody vampiric splendor of True Blood, the non-stop suplexes of Monday Night RAW, and the late ’90s glory of WB hits like Dawson’s Creek and Felicity.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Would Make a Great TV Series

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is currently available on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Be sure to check out our full review right here.

I’m 36 hours into my first playthrough of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and while I was trotting along the lush Bohemian countryside with my trusty steed (Pebbles), it occurred to me that the game’s story would be perfect for television. Sword and shield epics like Vikings, Game of Thrones, and Knightfall are very popular nowadays, so why not adapt developer Warhorse Studios’ new RPG?

Creating any new series is a difficult undertaking, but before the studio executives crunch the numbers, showrunners scout locations to film, sets are built and actors are cast, having a great story is paramount. KCD has one of those classic rags to riches tales with its lead character, Henry. He’s just a regular guy — the son of a blacksmith who enjoys throwing poop at people’s houses, drinking at the local pub, flirting with the ladies, and occasionally trying his hand at swordplay even though he’s not very good when the game begins. After an attack on his village results in the death of his parents, Henry sets off on an epic quest for revenge where he gets involved in a large-scale conflict involving lords, kings, and popes.

First Fahrenheit 451 Trailer: Michael B. Jordan Lets The World Burn

The first trailer for HBO’s upcoming movie adaptation of Fahrenheit 451 has arrived, and it’s loaded with all kinds of dystopian goodness. No robot cowboys, though. That’s Westworld‘s domain.

The film, based on the 1953 novel by Ray Bradbury, envisions a future where books are outlawed and burned. Black Panther‘s Michael B. Jordan stars in HBO’s take on the source material. He plays Guy Montag, one of the men responsible for burning books. The trailer shows Guy to be happy with his place in the world, though he ultimately begins questioning the why the world’s books are being destroyed.

Jordan is joined by Michael Shannon, who plays the devious Captain Beatty–the head of the book burning crew. “We are not born equal, so we must be made equal by the fire,” Beatty reasons.

The cast is rounded out by Sofia Boutella, Lilly Singh, Laura Harrier, and Marton Donovan. Ramin Bahrani (99 Homes) has written and directed the films. Though a specific premiere date has not been announced, HBO’s Fahrenheit 451 will arrive in May.

Diablo 3’s Next Season Begins And Here Are The Rewards

Season 13 of Diablo III is now underway on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and with it comes a host of new rewards, along with many returning Seasonal Conquests. You’ll also be able to earn a new Class Set, in the form of Haedrig’s Gift, which you can earn by completing certain chapters of the Season Journey.

By progressing through the Season Journey, Season 13 gives you access to the Helm and Shoulder slots of the Conqueror Set, along with new portraits themed around Imperius. There’s also a new pet. Blaine’s Bear is lovable looking stuffed animal that just so happens to carry sharp objects and be covered in blood. “You may be tempted to ask him why he’s covered in blood…We strongly advise against this,” said Blizzard.

Completing chapters 2, 3, and 4 in the Season Journey will earn you Haedrig’s Gift, which comes in three parts and grants you a new Class Set, depending on the one you’re playing at the time. To collect a complete Class Set, make sure you redeem each Haedrig’s Gift using the same class. Here are the sets for each class, and you can see the armor in the gallery above.

  • Barbarian — Might of the Earth
  • Crusader — Thorns of the Invoker
  • Demon Hunter — The Shadow’s Mantle
  • Monk — Monkey King’s Garb
  • Necromancer — Grace of Inarius
  • Witch Doctor — Raiment of the Jade Harvester
  • Wizard — Firebird’s Finery

Players who haven’t unlocked four Stash Tabs by reaching Conqueror in previous Season Journeys will be able to unlock one by completing several tasks at the Conqueror tier in Season 13. Blizzard is also rotating the Seasonal Conquests, and you can see more details in the Season 13 notes.

The New Demo For PS4’s Yakuza 6 Is Huge

Sega had some disappointing news to share earlier this year when it delayed Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, but it did make up for that by announcing that it would release a demo of the upcoming PS4 game. It’s already begun to launch in some markets around the world where it’s already February 27. If you’re eager to start playing, you might want to call your ISP and upgrade your internet speed now.

While still dwarfed by the size of full games, for a demo, Yakuza 6‘s trial is enormous–it weighs in at 36.53 GB. It’s available now on Australia’s PlayStation Store and should be available as the calendar turns to Tuesday elsewhere around the world. The PSN listing describes the demo as consisting of the game’s prologue. As a result, you can probably expect a fair number of cutscenes, which may explain the demo’s large size.

Sega previously announced that your save data from the demo version can be carried over into the full game, which is now due out on April 17 in North America and Europe. That’s almost a full month later than the previously scheduled March 20 release date. An explanation for the delay was not shared, with Sega simply stating, “This was a tough business decision we didn’t make lightly.”

Yakuza 6 has been available in Japan since December 2016. Western localizations of Yakuza games have typically taken a long time, as players of Yakuza 5–which released internationally three years after its Japanese launch–can attest. We recently got a good look at Yakuza 6 and its improved visuals, as you can see in the video above. For even more, check out our deep dive into the history of Yakuza.

J.J. Abrams Tries (and Fails) to Explain Cloverfield Paradox’s Ending

J.J. Abrams has offered his take on The Cloverfield Paradox’s controversial ending with little luck.

Warning: Spoilers ahead…

The Cloverfield Paradox introduces mind-bending concepts such as time travel, alternate dimensions, and inter-dimensional travel all in an attempt to connect to the previous two Cloverfield films. This connection is a bit flimsy at best, but Paradox does hint that the Cloverfield station tore a hole between dimensions during its interdimensional journey. As a result, creatures like the original Cloverfield monster from the first movie arrive on Earth to cause chaos.

In the final scene in Paradox, there’s a shot of a similar-looking monster and, up until now, it’s been unclear if this is in fact the same creature from the first film. During an interview on The Empire Film Podcast, Abrams and director Julius Onah confirmed it is indeed the same monster, only slightly bigger. However, their explanation of the rest of the movie and its ending is a bit more confusing.

AMC’s McMafia Is The Godfather for a New Generation

If you’re looking to scratch that crime drama itch then you should check out McMafia, AMC’s excellent new series. It’s The Godfather for a new generation. The show is called McMafia because it’s all about franchising crime, just like you would a McDonald’s. Now, in The Godfather, most of the crime was relegated to New York and Las Vegas, but these gangsters are dealing in Dubai, Tel Aviv, Mumbai, and Prague. In the digital age, they can control shipments and lock down deals with the press of a button. Imagine what kind of empire Michael Corleone could have amassed if he’d had an iPad.

The story centers around Alex Godman, played by James Norton, who looks like he’s auditioning to be the new James Bond in every scene with his tailored suits and dashing good looks. Like Michael from The Godfather, Alex is a good son trying to make his way in the legitimate business world, but his father and uncle have ties to the Russian mob. After an attack on his family, Alex takes it upon himself to protect the ones he loves, which pulls him deeper into the world of organized crime. Been there, done that, right?
