Warhammer Vermintide 2 Review in Progress

There are few things quite as satisfying as the feeling of popping a ratman’s head like a grape with a giant war hammer. Or cutting that head clean off with an ax, or possibly unloading a full revolver clip into it, or just burning the whole thing to a crisp. The truth is, just about every one of the multitude of ways Warhammer Vermintide 2 gives you and your co-op team to kill your enemies is punchy, powerful, and a whole lot of fun.

I’ve been playing the pre-order beta of Vermintide 2 for the last week, as well as the closed beta before that, and I’m already enjoying it a lot – though I’m left wondering how long its randomized loot progression and relatively straightforward level design will keep me engaged. I’ve only had access to a total of six missions, so there’s still a whole lot I’ll be trying out in the full game for our final review, but here’s what I think of it so far.

Get These 1TB SSDs For Cheap Right Now

It’s highly recommended for a modern gaming PC to come equipped with a solid-state drive as opposed to the older, traditional hard disk drive. Lower boot-up times and faster loading speeds for games offer a tremendous upside, but pricing and overall capacity have been the barriers for systems to run solely on an SSD. Those barriers are lowered with the sale of two different SSDs–one from SanDisk and one from Western Digital (WD).

The 1TB version of the SanDisk Ultra 3D NAND SATA III SSD is currently priced at $230 USD on Amazon, down from its list price which floats around $380 to $400. This drive is your standard 2.5-inch form factor that connects via SATA cable, which can fit into many laptops and nearly all desktops. SanDisk’s Ultra 3D SSD has sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 530 MB/s; this tends to be top-end in terms of SATA SSD speed.

Western Digital’s WD Blue SSD on sale also uses 3D NAND technology for increased capacity, but this particular model is an M.2 2280 SATA III drive. It’s currently $250 on Newegg and Amazon, and is normally priced around $300. Keep in mind that while this is an M.2 drive, it’s still based on the SATA interface and not the faster NVMe interface. But by no means is the WD Blue slow; it can reach sequential read and write speeds of up to 560 MB/s and 530 MB/s, respectively.

If you’re still on a standard HDD and can’t switch to an SSD quite yet, you might want to look into Intel Optane memory to speed up boot and load times. While SSDs are going for a fair price, the same can’t be said about video cards. Thanks to the rise of cryptocurrency mining, video cards have reached over twice their MSRP and are incredibly difficult to find in stock; check out our look at how prices of video cards have risen recently.

Every Character In Avengers: Infinity War Who We Know About So Far

As its May release date marches ever closer, the list of confirmed characters in Avengers: Infinity War just keeps getting longer. It may seem like a superheroic Where’s Waldo, but the reality is we’ve spent years getting hints, teasers, and clues about which characters will appear in Infinity War.

These are all the heroes, villains, and otherwise that we know are in Avengers: Infinity War–so far. Avengers: Infinity War is out May 4 this year.

The Walking Dead Introduces Compelling New Characters

It’s an exciting time to be a Walking Dead reader. The series is again venturing into uncharted waters as Michonne and her friends make first contact with the largest and most advanced colony they’ve encountered since the start of the zombie outbreak. Issue #177 loses some of the series’ recent momentum, but it still offers a compelling taste of the conflicts to come.

As he occasionally does, writer Robert Kirkman takes a more ensemble-minded focus to this issue. The narrative constantly bounces between scenes set at Alexandria, at the Hilltop and at the Commonwealth. That approach allows Kirkman to touch base with a number of characters, both old and new. Unfortunately, this is another case where the constantly shifting narrative gives the book a jumbled quality. The script never settles in with any one group of characters for very long before moving onto the next. The script also suffers from Kirkman’s tendency to overwrite dialogue. Certain conversations could really benefit from being pruned and streamlined in order to create a more natural flow.

The X-Files Gets its Own Pennywise-Type Monster

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

The nuts and bolts of “Familiar” were decent. On the surface, this was a fairly dark, zero-sum tale about a cursed town and witchcraft gone wrong. Not only did two kids get killed, but two young kids. Yes, narratively, there is a weird and stark difference between dead kids based on age and children barely out of their toddler years being brutally killed is extra morose.

The X-Files has dealt with the supernatural in the past, but it’s not exactly the show’s bread and butter. The most we ever really see from this realm are some of the freaks and monsters Mulder and Scully chase down. It’s more urban myths and folklore than magic. Then there are the paranormal aspects of the series: the ghosts and ghouls and vengeful spirits. Still, X-Files made its name with science-gone-wrong type tales that explored wayward experiments and/or unexplained mental powers/phenomenon.

Oculus Rift Headsets Have Stopped Working And There Is No Fix Yet

Oculus Rift headsets have stopped working as part of a huge, widespread technical snafu that the company is currently trying to fix. Rift users have been unable to boot up their headsets today due to an expired security certificate. The headsets are rendered basically useless now.

“This is an issue with our software certification that we’re still actively working on,” Oculus said on its website. “For security, we use a certificate to ensure that the software you receive actually comes from Oculus. That certificate has expired, and we’re looking at a few different ways to resolve the issue.”

In a follow-up post, Oculus said it is in the process of updating the certificate, but this is not so easy to do. “Unfortunately, pushing the update out to affected users has some added complexity, as the expired cert blocks our standard software update path,” Oculus said. “We’re working through the options now, and we expect to have more details to share later this evening.”

According to Engadget, it might be possible to fix your Rift headset manually by tinkering with the system clock. However, this is no advisable, given it can have unintended negative effects. Oculus said in its support post that it recommends you wait until the company can release an official fix instead of trying to do so yourself and potentially making things worse.

“Our teams apologize for any inconvenience this may be causing you and appreciate your patience while we work on a resolution,” Oculus said.

We’ll report back as more details become available. Is your Rift headset not working or are you experiencing other issues right now? Let us know in the comments below!

New Fortnite Update Coming Soon On PS4, Xbox One, And PC

Part of what’s so great about Fornite: Battle Royale is that developer Epic Games releases updates for the popular game on a very regular basis. Sometimes it’s new features, weapons, or items, and other times it’s bug fixes. Whatever the case, the game feels fresh, and that’s great. The newest update is coming tomorrow, March 8, Epic announced today on Twitter.

The v3.2 update will arrive tomorrow, presumably on all systems: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Epic said it does not know exactly when the update will arrive tomorrow, but that information should be announced soon. We will update this post when those details are shared.

We don’t know yet what’s in the new Fortnite update, but we’ll report back with more information when Epic shares it. One likely possibility is that this update introduces the limited-time mode Teams of 20, which Epic said is due to launch on March 8 (more on that below).

In other news, Epic has warned players to be wary of websites and links on the internet that claim to offer V-bucks or other Fortnite items for free. Given that Fortnite is so immensely popular now, it’s no surprise that bad actors are trying to scam players. You can check out this Fortnite forum post to learn more about the best ways to protect your account.

The Teams of 20 mode still features 100 players total, similar to a typical match in Battle Royale, but this time they’re divided up into five teams of 20.

If you’re looking to score more gear in Battle Royale, Amazon Prime members can claim a free Fortnite loot pack right now from Twitch Prime. Additionally, PS Plus subscribers can download a bonus PlayStation Plus Celebration Pack on PS4. If you’re still new to the popular PUBG-style game, be sure to check out our guide of Fortnite: Battle Royale building tips.
