Oscars: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway Reportedly Presenting Best Picture Again

It’s being reported that Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty will once again be presenting the award for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards.

According to TMZ’s sources, the pair will return to present the award, which was famously botched last year.

After the incorrect announcement that La La Land had won Best Picture, the on-stage revelry of the film’s cast and crew ground to a halt once it was revealed that Moonlight had actually won the award. The mix up was later blamed on professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

Captain Marvel’s Costume Shouldn’t Worry Fans, Marvel Artist Says

Captain Marvel is currently in production, but we are yet to see any official images of actress Brie Larson as the title character. Nevertheless, unofficial footage of Larson on the set of the Marvel movie did emerge last month, which caused some confusion amongst fans as the star was wearing a green costume rather than the character’s distinctive red and gold outfit. One of the Marvel’s conceptual artists has now spoken about the issue, and has assured fans that they shouldn’t worry.

In an interview with comicbook.com, artist Andy Park said he was confident that fans would be “happy” with what Larson wears in the final movie. “I think it’s always funny seeing people’s reaction,” Park explained. “People are so ready to jump on and to react and make decisions so quickly. I would just say I would hope that they would just know from the past that judging too quickly is… how do I word this? They’re going to be happy. I think they’re going to be happy.

“[Marvel boss] Kevin Feige said it in an interview. We revealed the concept art that I did, myself, and other artists did, of Captain Marvel at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con. I think that alone should hopefully alleviate some of those fears that people have.”

As Park notes, early concept art of Larson in costume was revealed at SDCC last year, and it was very much based on the look of Captain Marvel from the comic books. Captain Marvel hits screens in March 2019 and is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. The cast also includes Ben Mendelsohn (Star Wars: Rogue One), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), and DeWanda Wise (She’s Gotta Have It). Samuel L Jackson will also make a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the role of SHIELD boss Nick Fury.

Earlier this week it was reported that Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them actress Gemma Chan was joining the cast as the villainous Doctor Minerva. In Marvel Comics lore, Doctor Minerva is a Kree geneticist and spy with similar powers to Captain Marvel.

The movie will reportedly take inspiration from the Kree-Skrull war, with the Skrulls serving as the film’s villains. The character of Doctor Minerva has traditionally been at odds with Mar-Vell, who will be played by Jude Law in the film.

Judge Bans Teen From Playing Violent Video Games

A 16-year-old boy was arrested following an apparent joke made in poor taste about carrying out a school shooting, and has been banned from playing violent video games.

GamesIndustry.biz reports that the teenager posted a video of himself playing a violent video game on SnapChat with the caption, “Y’all need to shut up about school shootings or I’ll do one.”

The young man was supposedly “annoyed” by social media conversations that took place in the wake of threats to his own school, Roselle’s Lake Park High School, that resulted in the school closing its two campuses as a safety precaution. The social media threat was later deemed not to be credible.

How Far Cry 5 Revamps the Structure of Sandbox Storytelling

I’ve previously played enough of Far Cry 5 to already be on board with its stunning Montana setting, disturbing doomsday cult premise, freeform firefights and astonishingly addictive fly-fishing, but I came away from my latest hands-on with the game with a new appreciation of the efforts the narrative team at Ubisoft Montreal has made in terms of delivering a cohesive story that’s consistently compelling for the player, which is no mean feat within its massive sandbox littered with head-turning distractions.

It all starts with an opening that honestly can’t be recommended for anyone with high blood pressure. As a junior police officer you begin the game flanked by the Hope County sheriff and a US Marshal in the back of a helicopter bound for the Church of Eden’s Gate, seeking to apprehend cult leader and main antagonist, Father Joseph Seed. Seed goes willingly, allowing you to slap the cuffs on him while calmly assuring his wild-eyed followers that God will not let you take him, but just as your chopper is taking off the mob turns violent, swarming the outside of the vessel like zombies as it struggles to get off the ground. A particularly devout disciple launches himself into the rotor blades and explodes into a red smear all over the windshield, sending the whirlybird crashing to earth and leaving you alone in a lawless landscape with all the roads leading out blocked, the phone lines cut, and no one coming to save you. It’s an incredibly tense introduction, and less than half an hour into the game I already felt hooked harder than the slowest sturgeon in the stream. (Did I mention how much I like the fishing?)
