Netflix recently debuted their reboot of Irwin Allen’s classic 1965 sci-fi series Lost in Space, making it the second high-profile reboot of a notoriously campy 1960s sci-fi TV series in as many years. Last year, of course, also saw the release of Star Trek: Discovery, the seventh show to bear the Trek title. And while Star Trek and Lost in Space were incredibly different shows in terms of tone and premise – Gene Roddenberry himself famously discouraged comparing the two – they do frequently occupy the same cognitive space in the minds of sci-fi fans. Not only are they contemporaneous shows of a common genre, but they also share common attitudes rooted in the glories and hardships of American frontier life in the early days of Manifest Destiny. Star Trek was Wagon Train, and Lost in Space was The Swiss Family Robinson (which was a Swiss novel, yes, but was famously transposed to America in a 1940 feature film).

Even More PS4 Games On Sale At The PlayStation Store In The US
Not content to have just one sale live on the PlayStation Store, Sony has begun promoting a second sale on PS4 games. It’s called the Totally Digital sale, and as you can probably guess, it revolves around games that are only available in a digital, downloadable format. As usual with sales on the PlayStation Store, PS Plus members get an extra discount. The sale ends May 29.
The sale is divided into two parts: games that are out now and games that aren’t. For the upcoming games in the sale, PS Plus members get between 20-25% off their pre-orders. These games include Tacoma, a narrative-driven sci-fi game from the makers of Gone Home. It launches May 8, and it’s on sale for $15 (down from $20). Trailblazers is a team racing game in which you can spill paint on the track. When your teammates drive on paint you’ve spilled, they get a speed boost. It’s on sale for $24 (down from $30).
For the games on sale you can play now, PS Plus members get an extra discount. Pyre, a sports-game-meets-RPG we gave 9/10 in our review, is on sale for $14 ($12 with PS Plus). The slow-motion shooter Superhot is on sale for $17 ($15), as is its PSVR counterpart Superhot VR. Also on sale are the horror game Soma for $15 ($12) and the bizarre-yet-enjoyable Headlander for $8 ($6).
Below, you’ll find our picks for the best deals on the best games in the Totally Digital sale. You can find the full list of games on sale here.

Fortnite Week 10 Challenges: Search Between Stone Circle, Wooden Bridge, And Red RV
A new Fortnite challenges update has arrived, unlocking Week 10 objectives for Battle Pass owners on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile. This is the final week of Season 3, and it introduces a new element–floating rings to skydive through–along with a search for an object between a stone circle, wooden bridge, and red RV that may prove difficult for some.
As always, there is a total of seven challenges in all. Some of these are things you’d do anyway; one of the hard objectives is to eliminate 10 opponents. You may be best off doing that in the Solo playlist, where you don’t have to worry about revives or teammates taking your kills. You may want to head to Pleasant Park to do that, as another hard objective asks for three eliminations in Pleasant Park; complete each of those for 10 Battle Stars.
The trickiest of Week 10’s challenges is the aforementioned “search between” one. Like those in the past, this simply requires you to reach a location between three vaguely described objects and pick up an item. Unless you’re especially familiar with the map, you may not know the location based on he name–the game tells you to search between a Stone Circle, Wooden Bridge, and a Red RV. This is just southeast of Tomato Town, near the southwestern edge of Wailing Woods (in the H4 section, as seen in the map below). You’ll find a circle of stones with a log in the middle, and the Battle Star to collect will be hovering over that.
As for the objective telling you to skydive through floating rings, you’ll see these as soon as the Battle Bus begins making its way across the island. There are purple ones at higher elevations and blue ones closer to the ground. You’ll need to go through a total of 10, and both the purple and blue rings count for one. This will take multiple matches to complete, as you’ll want to try to hit at least two as you jump from the Battle Bus. Despite what the challenge says, you don’t specifically have to be skydiving–you can gently make your way through with the glider equipped to ensure you don’t miss a ring.
The remainder of the challenges mostly involve spending time in the right places. You’ll need to search chests in Fatal Fields, as well as search chests in different named locations. For the latter, just bring up the map and keep track of each place you open a chest. The Fatal Fields chest will count for one, and from there you can make your way to any other area with a name to find a chest. Finally, you’ll need to deal a total of 250 headshot damage to enemies. If you’re a good sniper, that’s going to be your best bet for handling this quickly, but any gun will do.
You can see the full list of Week 10 challenges below, or consult our full list of Season 3 challenges. Week 10 is the final leg of Season 3, and it looks as if things may be coming to a head with Fortnite’s meteor and alien theories. But you still have some time to complete these objectives and any you haven’t already done–that’ll help you to level up your Battle Pass more quickly and earn the skins and rewards currently up for grabs.
Fortnite Week 10 Challenges
- Search Chests in Fatal Fields (7) — 5 Battle Stars
- Deal Headshot Damage to opponents (250) — 5 Battle Stars
- Search a Chest in different Named Locations (12) — 5 Battle Stars
- Skydive through floating Rings (10) — 5 Battle Stars
- Hard: Search between a Stone Circle, Wooden Bridge, and a Red RV — 10 Battle Stars
- Hard: Eliminate Opponents (10) — 10 Battle Stars
- Hard: Eliminate Opponents in Pleasant Park (3) — 10 Battle Stars
PS4’s Free PS Plus Games For May 2018 Announced
With end of the month in sight, Sony has announced the next batch of free games coming for PlayStation Plus members. May will offer up the usual total of six games spread across PS4, PS3, and Vita. Thanks to Cross-Buy, you’ll get up to three games on each platform.
As always, the most notably of the bunch come on PS4. With Detroit: Become Human‘s release approaching, developer Quantic Dream’s previous game, Beyond: Two Souls, will be available for free. This was originally developed for PS3 before later being ported to PS4. Alongside it, Ubisoft’s gorgeous platformer Rayman Legends will be playable for free.
PS3 owners will also have two games to claim: co-op action arcade game Eat Them and action RPG Risen 3: Titan Lords. Vita rounds out the list with two puzzle games: Furmins and King Oddball. The latter supports Cross Buy on both PS3 and PS4, so both of those consoles will have three games in all to grab.
If you haven’t already done so, it’s not too late to still claim April’s free PS Plus games. Those include Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo on PS4. Adding them to your library will allow you to continue playing for as long as you’re a Plus member. They’ll be available to grab until Tuesday, May 1, when this new slate of games will replace it.

With Fortnite Season 4 Near, New Update Adds Emergency Broadcast Teaser
For some time now, Fortnite players have speculated that some big event is coming to Battle Royale. The theories have ranged from a meteor–seen in the sky above the game world–crashing into Tilted Towers to some kind of alien invasion. Something is definitely afoot, as evidenced by a new emergency broadcast that’s now entered the game.
Official Twitter and Facebook accounts for Fortnite sent out the image below, which features the standard SMPTE color bars or bars and tone you’ve likely seen at some point, but with the outline of a dead llama laid over the top. There’s no accompanying message with it, leaving fans to wonder what’s going on.
This isn’t just limited to social media. The same image has popped up in-game; as shared on Reddit, TV screens on the island are showing this with some accompanying static. Does this signal a coming alien invasion? Are players being warned about the meteor’s imminent impact?
Nothing else has changed in-game since the release of the new 3.6 update. However, with Season 3 winding to a close next week, it seems all but assured that something is going to happen. Epic acknowledged fans’ speculation by adding some small details to Tilted Towers in the new patch, and there’s reason to think something space-centric is coming. Aside from the meteor that’s been visible in the sky, many of the Season 3 Battle Pass items are space-themed.
Fans have generated theories about when the next stage of the meteor event will happen, only to be let down time and again. With Epic offering up something much more direct like this, though, it seems like it’s just a matter of time until we find out what’s next for Battle Royale and perhaps Season 4.
Free New Harry Potter Game Hogwarts Mystery Out Now On Mobile
Mobile game versions of everything from Pokemon to Fortnite to PUBG have proven to be massive successes, and developer Jam City is hoping Harry Potter can be the next franchise to successfully make that transition. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, a new free-to-play game, is out now on iOS and Android devices.
Hogwarts Mystery is set years before the events of the main novels. It takes place in the 1980s, shortly after Voldemort is temporarily vanquished but still years before Harry Potter himself heads to Hogwarts. Despite that, it does feature voicework by many of the actors from the movies, such as Michael Gambon (Professor Dumbledore), Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall), Warwick Davis (Professor Flitwick), Sally Mortemore (Madam Irma Pince), Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey), and Zoe Wanamaker (Madam Hooch).
The game allows you to create your own wizard and attend Hogwarts, even joining one of the four houses. You’ll go to classes and learn to cast spells and create potions, and generally do what you’d expect a Hogwarts student to do. It’s a free download on both the iOS App Store and Google Play.

If this doesn’t sound like your cup of magical tea, it’s actually one of two Harry Potter mobile games that we know is on the way. Pokemon Go developer Niantic is at work on Wizards Unite, which involves exploring the real world to collect power-ups and defend key points. Publisher Warner Bros. has suggested a Harry Potter game is also in development for consoles, but no official details have been shared about that as of yet.
Xbox One Game Pass In May Features Another Big Launch, State Of Decay 2
Microsoft’s Netflix-style subscription service for Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, is set to enjoy another big month in May. Alongside the standard additions we’ve come to expect, two different titles will be available through Game Pass on the same day they’re released for sale. The company is also offering new subscriptions for just $1.
One of the two new releases is State of Decay 2, which is among Xbox One’s bigger exclusives of the year so far. The open-world survival game looks to build on its predecessor with, among other things, new co-op multiplayer. The game will be available on both Xbox One and PC for Game Pass subscribers, and it actually supports cross-platform multiplayer between the two for up to four players. It launches on May 22.
The other game making its debut on Game Pass on its release day is Laser League. It’s a new arcade-style multiplayer shooter from Roll7, the developer of the excellent OlliOlli skateboarding games. It’s been available in early access on Steam since last year, but it leaves that state and arrives on consoles (both Xbox One and PS4) on May 10. It’ll be available for Game Pass owners on Xbox One on that day.
May’s other additions all arrive right on May 1 and include a nice mixture of genres. There’s the great co-op cooking game, Overcooked; classic platformer Sonic & Knuckles; puzzle game Unmechanical: Extended; open-world shooter Homefront: The Revolution; and simulation game The Escapists.
The last of the bunch is a bit of an unusual one–PES 2018, the Pro Evolution Soccer series’ most recent entry, will also join the lineup on May 1. Whereas it’s understood that third-party Game Pass games aren’t necessarily in the library forever, we know exactly when PES 2018 leaves: August 31. That’s roughly a few weeks before we’d expect PES 2019 to arrive.
You can check out the full lineup of May additions below, or see what was added in April. While we don’t know what the future will bring, we do know that Microsoft’s first-party titles will continue to release through Game Pass right on release day, including this year’s Crackdown 3.

Two New Star Trek Movies Are In Development
The direction of the Star Trek series has been uncertain following the release of Star Trek Beyond in 2016. While that movie was not a flop, it didn’t match the success of the two movies that preceded it–Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness–and the recent news that Quentin Tarantino was involved with the development of a new Star Trek movie has further confused matters. Now Paramount boss Jim Gianopulos has confirmed that there are two separate films in development at the studio.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gianopulos made the comments at CinemaCon, the annual convention for theater owners. This initial story was subsequently followed by other reports from the event, including Fandango’s Erik Davis, who tweeted:
No specifics yet, just that they are working on two new movies. At first he said “several new Star Trek movies” and then clarified that it was two right now in the works https://t.co/96NPdwAoBC
— ErikDavis (@ErikDavis) April 26, 2018
While no further details about these projects were revealed, there have been rumors of two separate Star Trek projects over the past couple of years. In 2016, Paramount announced that Thor star Chris Hemsworth would star in Star Trek 4, reprising the role of George Kirk, who he played briefly in the 2009 reboot. However, this announcement was made before the release of Star Trek Beyond, and there has been little news about the project since.
More recently, it was reported that Tarantino was working with series producer JJ Abrams on a new Star Trek movie. However, earlier this month, Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty in the series, suggested that Tarantino wouldn’t direct it. “He’s got in his California movie [Once Upon A Time In Hollywood] to do and then I think [he’s] only doing one more film after that,” he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “And I doubt he could get around to directing a Star Trek in two or three years.”
In related news, production has started on the second season of Star Trek Discovery, the latest TV version of the franchise. The show is set to screen on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix for the rest of the world, but does not yet have a premiere date.
Nintendo Gets a New President
Current Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima will retire in June, and will be succeeded by Shuntaro Furukawa.
Furukawa is currently a board member for both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. He will become Nintendo’s sixth president in its 128 years of operation.
At 46, he’s a particularly young appointment, which is apparently a purposeful decision on the part of Kimishima, who wanted a successor that could more easily connect with the company’s customers.
“We will develop the company to its fullest,” Furukawa said at a news conference (per Bloomberg). “I will balance Nintendo’s traditions: originality and flexibility.”
