J.K. Rowling Apologizes For Killing Dobby

May 2 has special significance in the Harry Potter universe. It’s the day that the Battle of Hogwarts took place. Each year, author J.K. Rowling commemorates the occasion by apologizing for killing a character from the acclaimed magical series.

This year, Rowling apologized for killing the beloved and courageous elf Dobby. “It’s that anniversary again,” Rowling wrote. “This year, I apologize for killing someone who didn’t die during the Battle of Hogwarts, but who laid down his life to save the people who’d win it. I refer, of course, to Dobby the house elf.”

Dobby met his end heroically. He was mortally wounded by Bellatrix Lestrange, but before dying he saved the lives of Harry and Griphook by apparating them.

Last year, Rowling apologized for killing Snape; the year before that it was Remus Lupin, and in 2015 it was Fred Weasley.

The next Harry Potter movie, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, opens in theaters in November. It is a prequel to the original series and focuses on the character Newt Scamander.

According to a Reddit post from one of the students in attendance, Joe Russo confirmed that Tom Holland did, in fact, improvise that heartbreaking death scene after Thanos snaps his fingers and kills half of the universe’s population.

Joe and Anthony Russo were both in Iowa City visiting their alma mater, the University of Iowa. During the Q&A, Joe Russo explained how shooting two massive movies like Avengers 3 and 4 can have a big effect on Hollywood, according to the Iowa City Press-Citizen:

PUBG PC Servers Are Down Now [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] The server maintenance has now begun.

The original story is below.

A major update is on the way to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds on PC. The patch is being deployed tonight, May 2, and will be preceded by a round of maintenance, during which time servers will be taken offline as developer PUBG Corp. rolls the new content out to the live game.

Update #12 arrives shortly after the end of PUBG’s current ranked season, which formally concluded on May 1. Maintenance is scheduled to begin at 7 PM PT / 10 PM ET (3 AM BST on May 3) and is expected to last approximately four hours, although there is always a chance it may wrap up sooner or later than estimated.

Following the maintenance period, the update will be available for all players on PC. It introduces a new gun to the game–the SLR–as well as the ability to choose which map you’d prefer to be matched up on. PUBG Corp. has also added a new vehicle to Miramar: the Mirado, a four-seat car that can be found in downtown areas and on main city streets.

Additionally, Update 12 makes sweeping changes to weapon balance. PUBG Corp. says the reason for these adjustments is to ensure that no specific weapon feels “objectively better” than the others. The update also introduces a slate of new attachments, including the duckbill for shotguns, several grips, and two new scopes.

Finally, the new patch makes an assortment of bug fixes and a handful of improvements to Miramar, namely adding and removing some buildings and cover. You can find the full patch notes for Update 12 on Steam.

Avengers 4 Will Surprise You, Writers Say [SPOILERS]

THIS POST CONTAINS MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR.

No Caption Provided

The writing team behind Avengers: Infinity War and its upcoming sequel have shared some very interesting details about the next movie. Speaking to Buzzfeed, writer Christopher Markus said the untitled fourth Avengers movie “doesn’t do what you think it does.”

Markus added, “It is a different movie than you think it is.” Most intriguingly, he teased that the many surprising deaths at the end of Infinity War are “real,” at least in some manner. “Also… [the deaths are] real. I just want to tell you it’s real, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you will be able to move on to the next stage of grief.”

Thanos directly killed Heimdall, Loki, Vision, and Gamora during the events of Infinity War. After he acquired all the Infinity Stones, he snapped his fingers, killing half of the world’s population. This claimed the lives of other superheroes such as Bucky, Black Panther, Groot, Scarlet Witch, Falcon, Mantis, Drax, Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Nick Fury, and Maria Hill. Given how much money these characters make in their own movie franchises, it would be incredibly unlikely that they all remain dead. While their deaths might have been “real” in Infinity War, that doesn’t necessarily mean they are gone forever.

Avengers 4 is going to be a “mature” movie, co-writer Stephen McFeely added. McFeely went on to say that Marvel is going to “own these choices,” regarding what happened in Infinity War, and that’s intriguing to think about.

“We’re going to own these choices, and hopefully surprise and delight you and get you invested,” he said. “It’s by the same studio, the same filmmaking team. They were written at the same time, shot at the same time. They’re clearly connected, but they are definitely two different movies, one of which is dependent on what happened previous.”

Markus added: “We broke your heart. Now we’re going to blow your mind.”

The full Buzzfeed interview is wide-ranging and fascinating; read it all here.

Infinity War made more than $640 million worldwide during its opening week, dethroning Star Wars: The Force Awakens to set a new all-time record. The next MCU film is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which comes to theatres in July; Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson comes out in March 2019. Avengers 4 opens in May 2019.

Marvel May Have Spoiled Infinity Countdown

Marvel appears to potentially spoil their own story by releasing a promotional image.

Newsarama reports the graphic was released to promote the upcoming one-shot bridging event between Infinity Countdown and Infinity Wars and sports large text which reads “Thanos Wins.”

Stephen Hawking’s Final Research Paper Champions Multiverse Theory

Less than a month after his passing, Stephen Hawking’s final research paper has been published and it talks about the multiverse theory.

CNN reports one of Hawking’s final gifts to us, which is co-authored by University of Leuven physicist, Thomas Hertog, takes another look at our place in the multiverse.

The paper works off the commonly held Big Bang theory and the Eternal inflation universe model which is essentially the notion that the universe expands infinitely.

These ideas also proport the notion of infinite universes and using new mathematical applications, Hawking and Hertog have concluded all universes must have some common law of physics.
