Zombie A-Pork-Alypse? Scientists Restore Brain Function in Dead Pigs
Scientists have “somewhat revived” brains of dead pigs following them being killed in a slaughterhouse, although they are “careful to say that none of the brains regained the kind of organized electrical activity associated with consciousness or awareness.”
As reported by NPR, the experiment was described in the journal Nature and it showed that a “surprising amount of cellular function was either preserved or restored” in the brains of the deceased pigs.
Fans Are Trying to Uncover a Mysterious Retro Studios Character
Retro Studios gave former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie a signed drawing of him posing with various characters from Retro games, but a small mechanical hand in the picture is throwing a lot of fans for a loop.
The picture, along with a working Virtual Boy, a notebook for taking names, a plastic ass to kick and more, were given to Fils-Amie during a retirement event, and the Nintendo legend decided to tweet out pictures of these gifts yesterday.
The folks at GameXplain and fans on Reset Era noticed a mechanical hand in the picture, which can be seen poking out from behind a small statue of Mario in front of the picture. Theories have begun flying.
The Curse of La Llorona Review
This was originally reviewed out of the SXSW film festival.
The Curse of La Llorona is set on the outskirts of the blockbuster Conjuring franchise, which may lend it a mainstream commercial appeal but also a by-now deadened familiarity thanks to the series’ well-worn formula. We’ve seen many of this film’s supernatural scenarios before — in this franchise and in bogeyman/haunting films in general — but in the end The Curse of La Llorona ekes by due to its occasional playfulness and the sympathy engendered by its main family.
After a brief but brutal prologue set in 1673 Mexico — where we see how “The Weeping Woman” of Latin American folklore came to be by drowning her own children in a jealous rage, thus cursing herself to roam forever as a specter searching for other kids to kill — the film resumes in Los Angeles 1973, a period which Conjuring-verse fans will know is not long after the events of the LA-based Annabelle. (A supporting character from that film, Father Perez, pops up here to provide the bare minimum of connective narrative tissue between the films.)
Fortnite: Where To Search Jigsaw Puzzle Pieces (Week 8 Challenge Guide)
Week 8 of Fortnite Season 8 is upon us, and it’s brought a new set of challenges to complete across PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. As usual, most of this week’s tasks are self-explanatory and can be completed with a little persistence just by playing normally, but there are a couple that require a bit more legwork, like the one that asks you to search jigsaw puzzle pieces under bridges and in caves. If you’re unsure where to go, we’re here to point you in the right direction.
To complete this mission, you’ll simply need to find seven different puzzle pieces scattered around the island. As the challenge states, these will be hidden inside caves and under bridges, giving you an idea of where you need to go. If you’re not too familiar with Fortnite’s island, however, you may not know where these areas are, so we’ve listed out all the puzzle pieces’ locations and marked them on the map below.
Fortnite Jigsaw Puzzle Piece Locations
- Beneath the bridge northwest of Lucky Landing
- Beneath the bridge to the south of Shifty Shafts
- In the cavern southeast of The Block
- In the cave on the northeastern end of Tilted Towers
- In the Yeti’s cave in the southwest corner of the island
- Beneath the bridge to the southwest of Paradise Palms
- At the edge of the desert northwest of Paradise Palms
Once you’ve found all seven jigsaw pieces, they’ll form a picture of a strange, alien-ish creature and then disappear. It’s unclear what, if any, significance the picture has, but the important thing is the challenge will be completed, netting you five Battle Stars. If you need more help finding the pieces, we walk you through where each one is located in the video at the top of this guide.
This is one of the trickier challenges you’ll come across this week, but it isn’t the only one; you’ll also need to dial numbers on big telephones and search treasure map signposts. We’ve put together guides for those as well to help you rack up the Battle Stars. If you still have any outstanding challenges from previous weeks, you can also find our other guides in our complete Fortnite Season 8 challenges roundup.
Week 8’s challenges are coming on the heels of Fortnite’s 8.40 update. That patch kicked off a new limited-time mode called Air Royale, which revolves around dogfighting. Air Royale also has its own set of challenges, which will reward you with special Wraps when completed. Additionally, the 8.40 update brought back the Food Fight LTM, but this time, it’s called Deep Fried and features elevated restaurant bases.

Child’s Play: All 7 Horror Movies, Ranked
Chucky might now be the most famous horror movie doll, but he wasn’t the first. Earlier films such as the 1940 anthology Dead or Night or 1978’s Magic used spooky ventriloquist dolls to great effect, while the clown doll that terrifies poor Robbie in Poltergeist made for one of the best jump-scares of the 1980s.
However, the release of Child’s Play in 1988 took the scary doll trope in a far more gory and violent direction. The ’80s was the decade of the slasher movie, and with the huge success of that first movie, Chucky quickly joined the ranks of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers as one of the era’s best-loved slasher villains.
But while Child’s Play and the first sequel were big hits, they came right at the end of the slasher cycle, and the failure of Child Play 3 in 1991 meant the series lay dormant for several years. When series creator Don Mancini returned to the franchise in the late ’90s, the movies took on a more surreal, comedic slant. Chucky was still voiced by Brad Dourif, but he was the only truly consistent element in a series of movies that lurched from wild gross-out comedy to surreal gory horror and back again. If there’s one thing you can say about the Child’s Play series from that point, it’s never done the same thing twice.
The series is now getting a complete reboot, and the new Child’s Play hits theaters in June. Mark Hamill has taken over the role as Chucky, and the trailers so far suggest a very modern update the series, with Chucky now able to control appliances to aid his killing spree. But while Mancini is not involved with the new film, his version of Chucky will live on in a new TV show that he is developing for SyFy. It’s a good–if occasionally confusing– time to be a Chucky fan. With the latest Child’s Play reboot trailer released this week, here’s our rankings of all the movies in the series to date…

Apex Legends Update Tweaks Gibraltar And Caustic Balance, Introduces Bonus XP Event
The latest patch for Apex Legends has added some often requested armor to two characters, introduced a limited-time bonus XP event, and ushered in various other weapon tweaks and adjustments. It’s live now so you can already start tinkering with all the new toys.
According to the patch notes posted on the Apex Legends subreddit, one of the most significant changes came to Gibraltar and Caustic. Community manager Jay Frechette explained that those two, along with Pathfinder, were all getting punished in match data for their hitbox size. Readjusting the hitboxes worked to fix Pathfinder, but the other two were still at a disadvantage. As a result, this patch adds a new passive ability for them both: Fortified, which reduces damage by 10%. Each has a handful of other minor tweaks as well to make them more competitive.
In addition to those changes, you can get some bonus Battle Pass XP to level up faster. Your first Top 5 of the day will grant you a full Battle Pass level (29,500 BPP), and you can repeat that every day until the bonus period ends on 4/18.
Other changes to weapons include buffs for the Longbow DMR and Havoc, and nerfs for the G7 Scout, Wingman, and Spitfire. The jump ship has also gotten a speed increase.
This is a smaller-scale update to the overall 1.1 Patch that went live a few days ago. More recently, project lead Drew McCoy commented that the game isn’t coming to Switch right now, but didn’t rule out the possibility completely.
