Hitman 3 Could Already Be In Development

IO Interactive, the Danish developer responsible for the Hitman franchise, opened a new studio in January 2019. This new studio was established to “strengthen IOI’s commitment to [delivering] exceptional content to the Hitman franchise.” It’s been around seven months since then, and it seems that commitment may manifest in a new Hitman title.

In a documentary from NoClip, IOI talks about the challenges and triumphs of developing the Hitman games. Toward the end of the 40-minute video, host O’Dwyer said the team is “working on new Hitman content, and looking ahead to the third Hitman game.” He later added claim that the majority of IOI is “working on something secret, and rather excitingly, something new.”

IOI CEO Hakan Abrak said when “the World of Assassination [is complete], it’s gonna be one game with all the locations starting from Paris in Hitman 1 to the last location in Hitman 3, where it’s 20-plus locations.” Though he didn’t confirm or deny whether Hitman 3 is in development, Abrak did say IOI is “looking into the future with new things and potentially new IPs that we might be working on.”

IOI has said that Hitman will have three seasons, with lead writer Michael Vogt saying in October 2016 that “Season 1 is the first act in a feature film.” If a new Hitman game is in the works, Hakan said it “may once-again go episodic.”

Hitman 2 arrived on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in November 2018. Much like Hitman 1, Hitman 2 offers you a variety of distinct locations–like Miami and New Zealand–to live out your assassination fantasies. With Vermont being a location in the game, we recommended Senator Bernie Sanders stream the game on his newly-established Twitch channel.

Top 10 UK Games Chart – Switch Exclusive Fire Emblem: Three Houses Beats Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Fire Emblem: Three Houses has finished at the top of the UK all-format physical sales chart, beating the multiplatform shooter Wolfenstein: Youngblood in the two games’ debut week.

Sales monitor Chart-Track says the Switch exclusive was the best-selling boxed game in the UK for the week ending July 27. With Wolfenstein finishing at No.2, it means last week’s No.1, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, falls to No.3. Besides the top two, the only other new game this week was Kill La Kill: If, which enters the chart at No.40.

We enjoyed all three of the new games here at GameSpot, and you can read our verdicts on them via the links below.

What’s New This Week To Hulu, Amazon Prime, And Shudder? Movies, TV, And Originals

Streaming has become a part of most people’s daily lives. Whether it’s Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, or Shudder, every week offers up a variety of new content for subscribers to enjoy. This week is no exception with new movies, TV series, and originals coming to a television screen near you.

If you love Batman, but find Bruce Wayne needs some refinement and isn’t British enough for your liking, you may want to check out Pennyworth, which debuted on Sunday on Amazon Prime Video. The Epix series follows Alfred Pennyworth–Batman’s butler–as a special forces officer working in London during the 1960s. Find out what adventures Alfred got into in his prime, before he brought Bruce Wayne some tea in the batcave.

Also coming to Amazon Prime Video this week is a slew of new movies, most of which arrive on Wednesday. Most notably, the sci-fi thriller 12 Monkeys arrives, along with the 1995 movie Hackers, a movie about hacking that knows nothing about hacking. There are also a few Star Trek movies arriving as well.

Over on Hulu, Thursday marks the biggest day of the week for the streaming service. This is the day when Hulu drops most of its content for the month. Arriving that day are numerous Star Trek and Final Destination movies, along with the superhero musical Spider-Man 3 and Hackers–in case you wanted options on where to watch it.

On AMC’s horror-service Shudder, Hackers will not be arriving, probably ever. However, there are some spectacular ’80s flicks you should check out, including a collection of A Nightmare on Elm Street movies on Thursday. This collection does not include Wes Craven’s New Nightmare or Freddy vs. Jason, but all the other Freddy Krueger movies will be streamable this week.

Below, you’ll find everything coming to Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and Shudder this week. If you’re interested in more streaming service content, check out everything coming to Netflix this week.

It Chapter 2’s Epic Running Time Revealed By Director

Of all the many Stephen King adaptation that have been released over the past few years, the biggest box office winner was 2017’s It. The adaptation of King’s classic 1987 novel made $327 million worldwide, and expectations are high for the sequel, which arrives in September. The running time for It: Chapter 2 has now been revealed–and it’s long.

In an interview with Digital Spy, director Andy Muschietti revealed that the film will run for a whopping 2 hours and 45 minutes. That’s a full 30 minutes longer than its predecessor. Nevertheless, Muschietti seemed confident that fans will enjoy the extended running time.

“At the beginning, when you’re writing and building the beats of the story, everything that you put in there seems very essential to the story,” Muschietti said. “However, when you have the movie finally edited and it’s 4 hours long, you realise that some of the events and some of the beats can be easily lifted but the essence of the story remains intact.

“You cannot deliver a 4-hour movie because people will start to feel uncomfortable–no matter what they see–but we ended up having a movie that is 2 hours and 45 minutes, and the pacing is very good. Nobody who’s seen the movie has had any complaint.”

Stephen King fans will know that It is a very long book, and there’s still a lot of story left to tell. It: Chapter 2 features the adult versions of the Loser’s Club, the kids from the first movie, and is set 30 years later. It stars James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly, Bill Hader as Richie, James Ransone as Eddie, Andy Bean as Stan, and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike. Bill Skarsgård also returns as Pennywise, one of the guises of the terrifying interdimensional entity of the title.

The latest trailer for It: Chapter 2 was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this month, as well as three new clips from the movie. Check out GameSpot’s breakdown of the trailer here. It: Chapter 2 releases on September 9.

Pokemon Go Adding Shiny Rayquaza This Week

Armored Mewtwo may be leaving Raid Battles in Pokemon Go in only a few days, but a new Legendary is set to take its place. Rayquaza, the Legendary Dragon Pokemon from Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, is returning to Raids beginning Wednesday, July 31, and this time around, you’ll have your first chance to capture its Shiny form.

Rayquaza will begin appearing in five-star Raids at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET / 9 PM BST and will remain in the game until the same time on September 2, giving you a little over a month to add one to your collection. The Shiny version of the Legendary has black scales rather than green ones, although you’ll need to be pretty persistent to come across one, as Shiny Pokemon don’t appear in the game very often.

To catch Rayquaza, you’ll first need to team up with other players in-person and defeat it in battle. Rayquaza is a dual Dragon/Flying Pokemon, which makes it particularly susceptible to Ice-types such as Mamoswine, Lapras, and Weavile. Rock, Fairy, and other Dragon Pokemon will also prove effective against Rayquaza in battle.

Shiny RayquazaShiny Rayquaza

Rayquaza forms part of what’s known as the Legendary “weather trio” together with Groudon and Kyogre. In Pokemon lore, Rayquaza only emerges when the other two Legendaries are warring, which makes its return to Raid Battles fitting, as both Groudon and Kyogre recently appeared in Raids as well. You can read more about the Legendary Pokemon on the official Pokemon Go website.

As previously mentioned, Armored Mewtwo is leaving Raid Battles the same day that Rayquaza returns, July 31. This version of the Legendary Psychic Pokemon is wearing the armor it dons in the Mewtwo Strikes Back: Evolution movie, and it has a different movepool and more defense-oriented stats than a standard Mewtwo.

In other Pokemon Go news, Team Rocket recently made their long-awaited debut in the mobile game. The villainous trainers can be fought at certain PokeStops, and they use Shadow Pokemon in battle, which you can rescue and purify for various bonuses. The game’s next Community Day is also just around the corner. That event takes place Saturday, August 3, and will feature Ralts, the Gen 3 Psychic/Fairy Pokemon.

11 Star Trek Picard Theories, Based on What We Know So Far

Battlefield 5 Adding New Free Map Tomorrow

A new map is coming to Battlefield V very soon. Marita, the next free map to arrive as part of the game’s Chapter 4: Defying the Odds expansion, will roll out on PS4, Xbox One, and PC tomorrow, July 30. The map will go live on all platforms alongside the game’s 4.2.1 update at 3 AM PT / 6 AM ET / 11 AM BST / 12 PM CEST.

Set in Greece, Marita emphasizes verticality and firefights, making for an intense addition to the rotation. As developer DICE describes: “Deploy on a sloping mountain ridge and within the tight streets of a rural town on this infantry-focused map. Tanks and aircraft will stand aside for intense gunfights and sneaky flanks in the cobbled streets.”

The 4.2.1 update will weigh in at 500 MB on Xbox One and 300 MB on PC; the PS4 file size will be announced ahead of the update’s rollout tomorrow. Once Marita is live, a Marita-only playlist will also be available. As DICE explains on Reddit, this playlist will rotate between one round of Conquest and two rounds of Breakthrough. A new Marita playlist will follow on August 8; this one will be for 32-player modes and will switch between Domination, Frontlines, and Team Deathmatch.

Marita isn’t the only piece of new content coming to Battlefield V this week. Also arriving tomorrow are two new Elite skins: Norman Kingsley and Ilse Schattenwolf. Both will be available for purchase from Battlefield V’s in-game store shortly after Marita goes live. You can read more about the new Elites on the Battlefield V website.

Next month, DICE will introduce two new close-quarters maps to the game: Provence and Lofoten Islands. Then in October, the game will receive its Operation Underground map, which takes place in an underground subway system, with a new Iwo Jima map set to follow later in the year.

New Blair Witch Gameplay Shows Good Dog And Good Scares

During Microsoft’s E3 2019 press conference, developer Bloober Team announced Blair Witch, a first-person survival horror video game based on the 20-year-old movie franchise headed to PC and Xbox One. Details have been kept close to the chest since then, but we’ve now gotten a quick look at some gameplay ahead of the game’s August 30 release.

The gameplay footage features the protagonist Ellis talking to someone named Jess about the “missing person case” he’s investigating. You can walk around the environments, look at stuff, use cameras and flashlights to illuminate your path, and more–all with pretty unnerving apparitions terrorizing your psyche. It all looks in line with the developer’s previous titles like Layers of Fear and Observer. Check out the gameplay video below. And yes, you can pet Bullet the bestest dog.

Though very little is known about the upcoming game, we do know it’s set in 1996, three years before directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez’s The Blair Witch Project hit theatres. According to the game’s Steam page, you will “navigate your way through a cursed forest that warps and distorts both time and space,” with Bullet watching closely as Ellis slips ever further into madness.

Pre-orders are available now. If you’re a subscriber to either Xbox Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll have immediate access to Blair Witch once it launches this August.

How The Mandarin Could Be the New Version of Shang-Chi’s Father – IGN

Marvel’s martial artist superhero Shang-Chi is headed to the big screen in 2021. Not only will Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu as the titular hero, but it’ll also finally make good a long-dangling MCU plot threat by introducing Tony Leung as the one, true Mandarin. While it might seem strange to pit Shang-Chi against a villain most commonly associated with Iron Man, this choice backs up a popular theory that the Mandarin will be depicted as Shang-Chi’s father in the MCU. Here’s why we think that theory will come to fruition in the new movie.

Marvel Comics’ Mandarin

Shang-Chi and Fu Manchu

Shang-Chi has fairly complicated origins (which we break down in greater detail in our Shang-Chi Explained feature), some of which create problems for Marvel Studios as the character makes the jump from page to screen. Originally, Shang-Chi was depicted as being the son of Dr. Fu Manchu, a villain created by pulp novelist Sax Rohmer and licensed to Marvel back in the ’70s.

The problems here are two-fold. One, Marvel no longer has the rights to the Fu Manchu character. Not only has this made reprinting the early Master of Kung Fu comics difficult, it’s prevented them from referencing Shang-Chi’s parentage in subsequent comics. Two, Fu Manchu is now widely criticized as a racist caricature and an example of the “Yellow Peril” storytelling trope. Even if Marvel could bring Fu Manchu into the MCU, it’s doubtful they’d actually want to use a villain with such a problematic history.

Marvel Phase 4 Comic Con Panel

In the comics, Marvel’s solution to the Fu Manchu problem has been to essentially replace him with a different character named Zheng Zu. A recent series called Secret Avengers revealed that Fu Manchu was one of several cover identities used by Zheng Zu over the decades. As a mystical, immortal sorcerer, Zu has no trouble impersonating others and keeping his true identity hidden from the outside world.

From Zheng Zu to Mandarin

Marvel Studios could opt to follow the example of the comics and introduce Zheng Zu in place of Fu Manchu. However, Zu isn’t a character with much name cache. He hasn’t appeared much in the comics since that initial Secret Avengers reveal. And given the relatively small mainstream exposure Shang-Chi has outside the comics, it’s in Marvel’s best interests to spruce up the character’s origin story by linking him to a more recognizable Marvel character. That’s why we think Mandarin is being re-imagined for the MCU as a replacement for Fu Manchu/Zheng Zu.

It’s a logical change given the many similarities between Zheng Zu and the Mandarin. Both are immortal men of Asian descent who wield seemingly supernatural powers. Both prefer to lurk in the shadows, manipulate others and keep their existence a secret from the outside world.

Then there’s the fact that the Mandarin is one of the greatest martial artists in the Marvel Universe. While he generally relies on his powerful rings (which grant him control over forces like fire, electricity and radiation), the Mandarin has shown himself capable of battling foes like Iron Man with nothing more than his fighting prowess. It makes sense to reveal that Shang-Chi is descended from that proud lineage. The greatest superhero martial artist in the MCU had to learn his skills from somewhere, right?

Conversely, Marvel may want to give Shang-Chi an upgrade and throw in some superhuman powers to augment his martial arts skills (similar to how Black Panther gained his new energy detonation power in the MCU). If so, it becomes much easier to explain how he acquired powers if his father is The Mandarin.

Asian Superheroes Who Need Their Own Movie or TV Show

The Mandarin Family Legacy

Both Mandarin and Shang-Chi are characters with troubled histories in Marvel’s comic. Not only is Shang-Chi the son of one of the most infamous “Yellow Peril” villains in pop culture, the Mandarin himself is another unfortunate example of that trope. Suffice it to say, those early Mandarin stories in Tales of Suspense don’t exactly stand the test of time.

Much as 2018’s Black Panther dealt with issues of race and social inequality, we’re fully expecting Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings to confront issues of representation and Asian American identity. This is Marvel’s first Asian-driven superhero movie. There’s no doubt going to be a concerted effort to acknowledge the troubled history of Shang-Chi and Mandarin and reinvent both characters in a way that makes sense for 21st century audiences. Linking the two characters as father and son is one way to find their shared humanity and ensure that the MCU doesn’t repeat the mistakes of the comics.

We’re nearing the end of our month of exclusive Control

coverage, but we’re not going out without a bang. Today, we’ve got 8 minutes of never-before-seen gameplay for you to look at.Join Jesse Faden as she visits the Black Rock Processing department of the Federal Bureau of Control. That might sound like a trip down Bureaucracy Lane, but it actually involves entering a quarry that shouldn’t be there, lit by the light of stars that can’t exist, and stuffed full of haunted ex-employees to bounce off of walls. Lovely.

Along the way, you’ll see a lot of combat, featuring multiple weapon forms and powers (being able to chuck the bodies of downed enemies at other enemies never gets old). What you won’t see are any story spoilers, so don’t worry about taking a peek unless you want to stay 100% fresh.

If that’s left you wanting to see even more, we’ve got the game’s first 13 minutes to show off, as well as a full side mission and boss fight. If you still haven’t seen our thoughts in general after 8 hours, come and see why we think Control is smart, savage, and bats**t crazy.
