Nintendo Switch’s Weird New Fitness Device Detailed: Ring Fit Adventure Releases Soon

Nintendo recently teased a “new experience” for Switch. It appeared to be a Wii Fit-like activity game, with accompanying peripherals, but otherwise it was difficult to discern exactly what was going on. Now, the company has shed more light on the peripherals and the game they’re bundled with.

The game is named Ring Fit Adventure, and it is indeed a fitness-oriented adventure game in which you use the new devices, the Ring-Con and the Leg Strap, to control your character. You can jog on the spot to move your character forward, for example, or squeeze the Ring-Con to jump or blast enemies with air.

As well as a story mode, there are mini-games and a quick play mode designed to be easier to hop in and out of, or for you to play with family and friends. You can also tailor the game to your existing fitness level or to train specific muscle groups. Finally, you can turn on Silent Mode, which requires lighter impacts so you don’t wake up the neighbors with your stomping and jumping.

Ring Fit Adventure comes bundled with the Ring-Con and Leg Strap when it launches on October 18. The package costs $80 in the US, with international pricing yet to be revealed.

Death Stranding: Everything We Learned About Gameplay in the Latest Stream

Hideo Kojima apparently didn’t want to tell people exactly what his new game is, but saw so many people asking that he decided to put on a more explanatory show at TGS. You can watch the 49-minute, Japanese-language demo above.

We already had a fairly good idea about the structure of the game – Norman Reedus’ Sam is a sci-fi delivery man, tasked with helping a fractured United States by convincing independent cities to join the Chiral Network, a connection system designed to tie the country back together. That convincing is seemingly done by helping people out, accruing Facebook-style thumbs-up likes for actions great and small. This demo, however, gave us a much better idea of what a single mission looks like – and it’s as weird, funny, and in-depth as you might expect. We’ve written down every new gameplay element we spotted, along with when we spotted them below. Here we go!

New Yakuza: Like a Dragon Trailer Trailer Premieres At Tokyo Game Show

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

A new trailer for Yakuza 7, which is officially called Yakuza: Like a Dragon, premiered today at Tokyo Game Show. The trailer, which is in Japanese with English subtitles available, shows off more of the story and setting.

“One journey ends, a new one begins. Yakuza: Like a Dragon A brand new story in a new city, featuring new characters, along with a completely revamped combat system,” reads a line from its official announcement. “All on top of everything you already love about Yakuza. Coming to the West in 2020!”

Yakuza: Like a Dragon stars Ichiban Kasuga, after Yakuza 6: The Song of Life wrapped up the story of the previous protagonist Kazuma Kiryu. Sega is adopting a turn-based battle system as homage to Dragon Quest. To match thematically, the new hero is canonically a huge DQ fan. The game is due in January in Japan, and sometime in 2020 in the West.

In other news, it was recently confirmed that Yakuza 7’s minigames will include go karts, slot machines, and boring movies, among other things.

Tokyo Game Show runs throughout the week and into the weekend, with news and updates expected for Death Stranding, Project Resistance, and more, so keep checking back with GameSpot for more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Preorder Guide

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a brand-new shooter from Infinity War, set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25, 2019.

Despite its name, and a few returning characters, the new title isn’t going to be connected to the previous games in the sub-series. It will also feature a fully-fledged single-player campaign, unlike last year’s Black Ops 4 from Treyarch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will also feature a first for the series — cross-platform multiplayer. In another set of changes, there won’t be a season pass, and all players will get free maps and access to post-launch events. The new game will also see the return of killstreaks, a multiplayer feature that hasn’t been used since the original Black Ops.

Lots Of New Death Stranding Gameplay And Details Emerge Out Of Tokyo Game Show

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

Tokyo Game Show 2019 is underway, and one of the first major events was the PlayStation Presents Live Show. The show started strong with a gameplay demonstration featuring none other than Hideo Kojima’s much-anticipated new game, Death Stranding.

The show was broadcast live, and a replay should be available shortly for you to watch. We saw and learned a lot about Death Stranding from the new gameplay video, which included an epic boss battle with some kind of terrifying otherworldly beast.

Here are some other things we learned in the extended gameplay presentation:

  • The motorcycle that Norman Reedus’ character rides in the game is a collaboration with Triumph, the motorcycle company that Reedus is a fan of in real life.
  • You can get a harmonica, and the baby in the baby pod likes it when you play it.
  • Carrying around luggage is a bit part of the game.
  • You can drop your luggage if you’re not careful, or if you slip on rocks or fall into water.
  • You can drop or deposit items to move faster and turn easier.
  • Items left by other human players can be seen in your game world.
  • There is a Bola gun that kills enemies through a lasso mechanic.
  • The map includes a topographical option that shows hills and valleys and water.
  • Markers can be placed on the map to help you find your way.
  • Main character Sam can take time to chill out and relax; in the game we saw Sam enjoying nature, and there were prompts that showed he could give himself a massage or even nap.
  • Sam can also take baths to recharge his energy.
  • To make things easier, Sam can use a “Floating Carrier” which hovers in the air behind him
  • Sam can also ride this carrier, and that’s pretty cool.
  • Sam can drink Monster Energy drinks to restore Stamina; really he can.

Just recently, Kojima said, “Even now, I don’t understand the game.” He added: “Its world view, gameplay, they are all new. My mission is to create a genre that does not currently exist, and which takes everyone by surprise. There is, naturally, a risk in that.”

Death Stranding’s release date has been confirmed as November 8, 2019 for PS4.

NBA 2K20 Dev Working “Around The Clock” To Fix The Game’s Bugs

GameSpot may get a commission from retail offers.

NBA 2K20 launched last week, and the release wasn’t entirely smooth. Players immediately reported a number of issues, and a Twitter hashtag #fix2k20 even kicked off and caught steam, with players listing off the issues they experienced with the professional basketball game.

Now, the developers have responded. A tweet from the NBA 2K20 account states that “many” of the previously reported launch issues have been fixed through updates. However, the company acknowledged that some issues remain, adding that its team is working “around the clock” to put together another patch that will address the game’s most “significant” issues.

One of the most glaring issues with NBA 2K20 is how the PC version’s launcher shows the icon for last year’s game, NBA 2K19, on the taskbar. Some of the other issues included extended loading times and various instances of bugs and other oddities. The game has “overwhelmingly negative” reviews on Steam.

NBA 2K20 took a step forward this year with its introduction of the WNBA, with 12 teams available to use in the Play Now and Season modes. Some of the league’s standout players have been scanned into the game, including Breanna Stewart, while animations and play styles fans will expect to see from the women’s league have also been brought in.

EA’s competing basketball game, NBA Live 20, was delayed to a later point in 2019. EA Sports says the game is taking a “different approach” this year, but it remains to be seen what that means.
