We’ve even got a dedicated sports section for eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 and NHL 20. This week is also home to AAA shooters like Gears 5 and Borderlands 3, plus some games you won’t wanna let fly under your radar like GreedFall and Daemon x Machina. The gothic indie adventure Blasphemous arrives this week too.

Gears 5 offers the standard campaign and multiplayer options, but there are some big changes to other modes this time around. For one, Horde mode gives every character unique abilities and ultimate attacks–there’s even a pair of characters from Halo: Reach in the mix. Characters also get special perks in the new Escape mode, a three-player co-op experience where you have to destroy Locust hives.

The Goldfinch Review

This is an advance review out of the Toronto International Film Festival. The Goldfinch opens in the US on Sept. 13, in Australia on Sept. 26, and in the UK on Sept. 27.

The Goldfinch is maybe the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptation of the year. Donna Tartt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel has sold millions since its publication in 2013, piling the pressure on this film version. And while it’s sumptuously shot, and filled with big stars delivering fine performances, the movie never quite gets under the skin of the book’s rich tapestry of characters, resulting in a feature that’s never quite the sum of its sizable parts.

Both the book and film kick off in an Amsterdam hotel room, with protagonist Theodore Decker (Ansel Elgort) downing prescription drugs, knocking back the contents of the mini-bar, and dreaming that his mother is still alive. Yet where in the book he then recounts his tale in relatively linear fashion, this film version – adapted by Peter Straughan and directed by John Crowley – choses to whip back and forth in time, cutting between 13-year-old Theo (Oakes Fegley) and the more mature version we now find confused, alone, and fearing for his future.

It Chapter Two Has Second Biggest Horror Opening of All Time

While it earned roughly 25% less than its 2017 predecessor did in its opening weekend, It Chapter Two dominated the weekend box office with an estimated $91 million debut.

That makes it the second-biggest opening weekend of all time for a horror film, behind 2017’s It, which earned $123.4 million in its bow.

It Chapter Two performed on par with the first film’s opening overseas, grossing $94 million from international markets this weekend and making it the No. 1 movie worldwide.

Celeste’s Free Chapter 9 DLC Is a Fond Farewell to a Fantastic Game

SPOILER WARNING! These hands-on impressions won’t go into story details, but they will be discussing the structure, new mechanics, and themes of Celeste Chapter 9. Be warned if you’d prefer to go into it blind.

It’s hard to tell if Celeste Chapter 9 has some of the game’s hardest levels yet, or if a year and a half of accumulated rust from not playing is just slowing me down. I’m willing to bet it’s a bit of both, but this free expansion to an already incredible game is a blast either way.

Chapter 9, titled Farewell, will be added to Celeste on all platforms tomorrow, and it feels a little bit like like a bite-sized sequel in some respects. It tells a mostly contained story that picks up after the base game and introduces plenty of new mechanics while also remixing some previous ones in clever ways.
