Historically, the month of November has been a hotbed for some of the year’s biggest games, and the upcoming batch in 2019 proves that’s still the case. Before things wind down in December, November will see the release of Pokemon Sword and Shield, Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Hideo Kojima’s return to gaming with Death Stranding.

In addition to the big tent-pole games of November, Rockstar will also release the greatly anticipated PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Announced in October, Rockstar’s open-world western will launch on the Rockstar Games Client first before shifting over to the Epic Games Store and then to Steam. Along with those games, the long-in-development Shenmue 3 will finally ship November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. There’s also still a suite of indie games and AA games coming to Switch, including the next Mario & Sonic mash-up and a re-release of Layton’s Mystery Journey on the Switch.

November is shaping up to be a notable month for games. So for your convenience, we’ve collected a few highlights for November and also included the full list of releases of games coming up.

Red Dead Redemption 2 | PC | Release Date: November 5

As GameSpot’s Game of the Year for 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games impressed us with its scope of interactions to be found in the wilderness and within the towns of Saint-Denis and Valentine. It was an immensely satisfying prequel that introduced a suite of new characters and locations, while also giving us a greater appreciation for the returning cast as they got into all sorts of drama in their younger years. The PC release of the game will no doubt be a great time to jump back into the game, just for the fact that the game now runs at an increased frame-rate and higher resolutions.

Death Stranding | PS4 | Release Date: November 8

Following the public departure of Hideo Kojima from Konami, fans have been anxious to learn more about the Metal Gear creator’s next big game. In Death Stranding, players will control Sam ‘Porter’ Bridges–portrayed by Norman Reedus–as he survives in the remains of North America following a catastrophic event that wiped out segments of the population and irreparably altered the landscape. From what we’ve heard about Death Stranding following TGS and Gamescom, it looks to be an unusual approach to open-world games that puts greater focus on making connections with the few characters that remain in the land, and with other players online. We’re excited to see how it all comes together, and it’ll no doubt be in a way that only Hideo Kojima can pull off.

Pokemon Sword and Shield | Switch | Release Date: November 15

The Pokemon series has been one of Nintendo’s most steadfast franchises that’s continued to grow in popularity every year. Set in the new Galar region–emulating the countryside of Britain–Sword and Shield, puts you in the role of a new Pokemon trainer who has to go out and catch all ’em all. However, what’s new in Sword and Shield is that environments are more open, moving away from the very linear progression of the series’ past. To take on this new approach to exploration, which can potentially lead to some unexpected fights with overpowered Pokemon, the trainers in the Galar region can trigger new evolutions for their set of Pokemon, turning tiny characters like Pikachu into giant versions of themselves.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order | PC, PS4, Xbox One | Release Date: November 11

As EA’s next big Star Wars game following 2017’s Battlefront II, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order moves away from the online multiplayer battles and dives into a narrative-driven adventure akin to God of War and the Uncharted series. Coming from Respawn Entertainment, Fallen Order also marks the Star Wars’ first metroidvania-style game, giving you greater control in where Jedi padawan Cal Kestis goes next. In addition to traveling to planets like Zepho and Kasyykk, facing off against foes in combat that controls similarly to Sekiro, you can also try to explore planets like Dathomir, which proved to be a significant challenge early on.

Right on schedule, advance tickets for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are beginning to go on sale at theatres around the world.

The Australian movie chain Event Cinemas is now selling tickets at its theatres across the country, while AMC, Fandango, Atom, and others in the United States and other parts of the world are selling tickets as well. General ticket availability at theatres and ticket-sellers around the world is expected to expand over the course of the rest of October 21. As always, it’s a good idea to check with your local theatre or favorite ticket-seller to get the latest information.

The Star Wars website also announced more details on special opening-night events related to The Rise of Skywalker. A number of theatres are holding fan events including marathons showing all nine films in the Saga on December 19. Those who attend the special events will get an “Opening Night” pin and a deal on concessions. People who attend the marathon sessions will get an “exclusive blanket” to stay comfortable during the events, which begin at 5 PM local time.

Get tickets at Atom

The movie theatre chain AMC is running a “Star Wars Sunday” event whereby every Sunday from December 22 through January 12 those who buy a ticket to see the movie in IMAX will get one of four exclusive art prints made by Dan Mumford.

Regal Cinemas, meanwhile, is holding a Saturday event where the first 500 people to buy a ticket in IMAX on Saturdays from December 21 through January 4 will get an “exclusive collectible ticket” with art from Tom Whalen. There are three different tickets.

The Alamo Drafthouse, meanwhile, has announced that it will offer a commemorative Star Wars issue of Birth.Movies.Death and Star Wars-inspired drink glasses designed by Mondo as an optional add-on for tickets.

Finally, Atom Tickets has announced that those who buy Rise of Skywalker tickets through the Atom Tickets app or through the theatre’s website can add an “exclusive, framed collector’s ticket” to their order.

A new week means it’s time to find out what’s coming out on Shudder, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. There are plenty of original series, movies, TV shows, and even an NFL game for you to check out.

The biggest release of the week is none other than Season 2 of Castle Rock. The latest season of the show follows a nurse named Annie Wilkes–the character from Stephen King’s book Misery–as she lands in Castle Rock with her daughter. This season does stand on its own, so you don’t need to watch Season 1 to understand what’s going on. At NYCC, we saw the Season 2 premiere of Castle Rock, and it was very good. Castle Rock arrives on Wednesday.

If you’re into American football, you may enjoy the NFL on Thursday night. Washington is taking on Minnesota in this NFC battle. This game will be much more fun for Vikings fans as Washington’s record is currently 1-6 and has put up the least amount of total points this season of any NFC team. It should be a fun day to watch Vikings’ WR Stefon Diggs run amok on Washington’s defense.

Over on Shudder, Joe Bob Briggs is back with his new special Joe Bob’s Halloween Hootenanny. The foremost drive-in movie critic will be presenting three movies for this marathon. Will they be Halloween movies or something completely off-the-wall that have nothing to do with horror? We’ll all have to tune in to the live-streamed special, which kicks off at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT on Friday.

Watchmen is no stranger to worldbuilding and story development via in-universe documents. Each of the original 12 issues came with back up prose stories done in the style of book excerpts, in-universe comics, police reports, and office memos to help flesh out the strange and upside-down world of Dave Gibbons and Alan Moore’s take on a 1985 where superheroes were real and the doomsday clock was tick-tock-ticking down.

This is a tradition HBO is working hard to replicate with the brand new Watchmen TV show, despite the change in mediums. Sure, an episode of television can’t literally come with a back-up story for viewers to read before the credits roll, but at least now we’ve got the next best thing: the internet. HBO’s Watchmen hub includes a rather inconspicuous link to a page called The Peteypedia, full of various PDF documents chock full of lore and some surprising twists for familiar characters in the post-graphic novel canon.

In an inter-office memo for the FBI’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force, we learn that Rorschach’s Journal, a major narrative element of the comics, eventually was published by the New Frontiersman newspaper, but whether or not it was actually the authentic document–the ravings of a man with known mental instability–or a hoax altogether was never confirmed. Also, at some point following the squid event in New York City, original Watchmen character Laurie Juspeczyk not only adopted her father’s last name, Blake, she also dropped her mother’s legacy codename (“Silk Spectre”) and began going by “The Comedienne.”

Given Laurie’s well-understood resentment and hatred of her father, something drastic must have happened to flip that particular switch. Either way, now apparently Laurie has given up the vigilante lifestyle all together in favor of hunting them down and arresting them–she’s now a member of the Anti-Vigilante Task Force, according to this Peteypedia document.

Also in the documents are references to a mass technological scare that happened shortly after the squid attack. This would certainly explain things like the presence of beepers in 2019, which we saw Angela use in the first episode and the general lack of things like smartphones and modern cars. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it; if a massive, interdimensional monster massacred thousands of people in a major city right at the advent of things like the internet and personal computers in the mid ’80s, the general public would really have no reason not to conflate those two things, right? And why not blame Dr. Manhattan at the same time?

We can probably expect the Watchmen Peteypedia to be updated each week as episodes roll out, so keep a close eye out.
