Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Getting A Resident Evil Spirit Board

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has a curious crossover coming on November 29, when the Spirit Board will replace the current Pokemon spirits with characters from a very different franchise. Resident Evil has had a big year on Switch–Resident Evil, 0, 4, 5, and 6 all released on Nintendo’s platform–and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is looking to celebrate with this Spirit Board.

Chris, Jill, Leon, and Wesker will all come to the game as unlockable spirits, meaning that you can nab three of the series’ mightiest heroes (and maybe its most iconic villain) if you’ve leveled up well and can beat their equivalent fighters. Unfortunately, this also means that Leon Kennedy almost certainly isn’t the fifth DLC character included in the Fighters Pass, which recently added Terry Bogard to the game’s roster. There are, however, more fighters in the works; it’s not unthinkable that Resident Evil will eventually be represented in Smash Bros.

Nintendo and Resident Evil have a curious history, with the Resident Evil remake, 0 and 4 all releasing first on the GameCube. Resident Evil 7 is available on the system through the Japanese eShop, but only as a streaming title. Resident Evil Revelations and Revelations 2 are also available on Nintendo’s console, with the first having begun life as a 3DS game.

Arrow: Season 8, Episode 6 Review

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Arrow: Season 8, Episode 6! If you need a refresher on where we left off, here’s our review for Season 8, Episode 5.

In the interest of not burying the lede, “Reset” is easily the strongest chapter of Arrow” Season 8 since the premiere. It’s no coincidence this episode also happens to be the most similar in terms of tone and plot. “Reset” embraces the larger-than-life mature of the Crisis while also delivering a fond farewell to one of the series’ most important supporting characters.

Much like how Susanna Thompson and John Barrowman stopped by in the premiere, there’s no way the series could take its final bow without bringing Paul Blackthorne’s Quentin Lance back one last time. Quentin was there since day one, and over the course of six seasons he evolved and grew as much as any character. “Reset” encapsulates that growth nicely, highlighting just how much the dynamic between Quentin and Ollie evolved as they went from bitter rivals to close-knit friends and allies. Plus, with as convoluted a history as the Lance sisters have in the Arrowverse, it’s only fitting Quentin gets a quick hop in the superhero resurrection machine.

The Flash: Season 6, Episode 7 Review

Full spoilers for The Flash continue below.

Over six seasons of The Flash, we’ve seen Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) tempted by darkness and alternate possibilities, and every time, it has usually ended up coming at a cost. With a Crisis (on Infinite Earths) coming less than two days away in series’ time, Barry is forced to confront his insecurities at a time when he knows he has seen many variations of his world’s end.

“The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Part 1” was a mixed bag for me. It hits when it moves forward and lagged a bit for me whenever we were stuck in Barry’s mind, as these are tropes that I’m frankly over in the various series in the Arrowverse. One might argue that such a psychological story is the hearty meal that comes before the “dessert” that will be next week’s inevitable confrontation between Bloodwork (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and Team Flash, but for now, Ramsey Rosso’s attempt at getting Barry to accept his “lifeblood” felt like the show was treading on all-too-familiar territory.

Wasteland 3 Dev Says Microsoft Hasn’t Meddled, Only Helped After Buyout

Wasteland 3 is due to release on May 19, 2020, and is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The PS4 release is still going ahead despite developer inXile Entertainment having been bought out by Microsoft in November 2018. In a recent interview, studio founder Brian Fargo has spoken about Microsoft’s purchase of the company, and has made it clear that they’ve essentially let them do their thing, albeit with the added financial safety net that a major publisher can provide.

Talking to Gamesradar+, Fargo explained that Microsoft propped the company up with money and then left them to their own devices. “Microsoft basically came in, gave us a tonne of cash, and said go and make the best game that you possibly can,” he said. Similarly, game director Tim Campbell says that the buyout “hasn’t changed the game (they) are making at all.” He acknowledges that it’s reasonable for people to expect otherwise, but assures Gamesradar+ that “Microsoft is just helping us do what we do but better, right?”

Microsoft’s support has reportedly allowed them to add far more voice acting to the in-game dialog, and ultimately create a better version of the game they originally set out to make with the over $3 million the game earned through its Fig crowdfunding campaign. “Microsoft has a user research lab, which is going to give us feedback on the UI and what people are experiencing,” Fargo says. “And they have their localisation groups and their QA groups… I could go on, but you have to understand that it is allowing us to make a more robust product.”

Brian Fargo is expected to retire after the release of Wasteland 3. He is perhaps best known for his work on The Bard’s Tale and its sequels.

Fired Star Wars Director To Donate His Rise Of Skywalker Profits To Charity

Although Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow was fired from his role as director and co-writer of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, his contributions were great enough to earn himself a writing credit for the final film. As such, he will earn residual checks from the sci-fi blockbuster, and those are expected to be significant given the profile and popularity of the film.

Trevorrow has now announced that he will donate this money to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, a UK-based charity that gives money and services to sick children. Trevorrow said donating his royalties is keeping in spirit with what he learned from Star Wars creator George Lucas.

“Through his films, George Lucas taught us about our connection to all living things,” Trevorrow said, according to Deadline. “He taught us to take care of one another, and he set a powerful example himself. The Alexander Devine Hospice helps families in the most challenging of times. I can’t think of a more fitting way to honor George’s legacy.”

The hospice’s co-founder, Fiona Devine, said the charity is “blown away by this incredibly generous gesture.” Trevorrow’s donation is expected to be enough to pay for a nurse for a year, and this will allow the group to “continue to do this and importantly reach out to even more families that need us.”

“We cannot thank Colin Trevorrow and his family enough for their amazing support and generosity,” Devine said.

Trevorrow wrote multiple drafts for Episode IX alongside his Jurassic World writing partner Derek Connolly, who is also receiving a “story-by” credit for the movie. This confirms that the final Rise of Skywalker script included a significant enough amount of the work done by Trevorrow and Connolly, but it remains to be seen what that is. Abrams and his own co-writer, Chris Terrio, finished the story for Rise of Skywalker in their own way.

Trevorrow told Empire Magazine that Abrams did a good job finalizing the Rise of Skywalker script. “This was a tough story to unlock, and he found the key,” he said.

“I’m grateful to [Abrams] for embracing some of our ideas. It’s exciting that fans will get to see the moments that felt essential to all of us,” Trevorrow added.

When Abrams and Terrio started writing their new script for Rise of Skywalker, they decided to add Emperor Palpatine–something that Trevorrow said he “never considered.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy was unhappy with the scripts that Trevorrow and Connolly turned in for Episode IX, and that’s why they were fired.

The Rise of Skywalker comes to theatres on December 20. If you like C-3PO, you’re in for a treat, as the robot character is said to feature prominently in the film.

The screenplay writer of 2009’s Watchmen movie adaption, David Hayter, has revealed footage of an original test clip for Watchman from back in 2003.
