Deals: Big PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch Video Game Sale on Amazon

For today’s spotlight deal, Amazon has dropped the price on several PS4, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch games to match or beat some of the great deals we’ve been seeing from other vendors. Green Man Gaming has also followed suit with PC games. For those of you looking to upgrade your PC hardware, Dell’s Semi-Annual Sale is kicking off with some really great Alienware PCs, as well as the lowest price ever on, in my opinion, their best gaming monitor.

New Alienware AW3420DW 34″ 3440×1440 Curved 2ms 120Hz GSYNC IPS Gaming Monitor for $849.99

The previous low for this monitor was $999.99 on Black Friday. The new AW3420DW replaces the AW3418DW, which was considered by many to be the best gaming monitor. The AW3420DW improves upon its predecessor with a faster response time (2ms vs 4ms), better color rendition (98% DCI-P3 range, which is a stricter standard than sRGB), and a more modern body style that complements the newer lineup of Alienware PCs. It also retains the best features of the AW3418DW, like the 3440×1440 21:9 resolution, fast 120Hz refresh rate, GSYNC compatibility, and a superior IPS panel that delivers excellent viewing angles.

Big PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch Video Game Sale Today on Amazon

Amazon has dropped prices on several PS4, Xbox, and Switch games. Most of them are under $30. Several of these games had been discounted at various vendors within the past few weeks and Amazon has finally decided to price match all of them in one go.

This portable hard drive is compatible as external storage for your PC, PS4, or Xbox One. Portable drives are physically much smaller than their desktop hard drive siblings. Alienware Aurora R9 AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Radeon RX 5700 XT Gaming PC for $1025.04

Use code “EXTRA17”

For those of you who haven’t been keeping up with the Intel vs AMD CPU war, AMD has been giving Intel a run for its money with its flagship processors. The new AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-core processor is comparable to the Intel Core i7-9700, both in terms of gaming and workstation performance. It’s paired with an RTX 2070 video card, which is superior to the previous generation GTX 1080, as well as plenty of RAM and a spacious 1TB solid state drive. The Radeon RX 5700 XT performs on par with the GeForce RTX 2070.

Alienware Aurora R9 Intel Core i7-9700 8-Core RTX 2080 SUPER Gaming PC for $1352.89

Use code “EXTRA17”

The new 2019 Alienware Aurora desktop boasts a facelift, improved thermals, new RGB LED lighting system, toolless chassis for easy swapping of parts, and performance components. The new RTX 2080 SUPER is the latest generation of RTX cards and is modestly superior to the RTX 2080 (which is already more powerful than the GTX 1080 Ti). This makes the card the second most powerful card available.

Alienware m15 15″ 1080p Intel Core i7-9750H 6-Core GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming Laptop for $1103.89

Use code “EXTRA17”

The Alienware m15 laptop is much thinner than its predecessor. It’s also one of the lighter gaming laptops we’ve seen weighing in at only 4.8lbs. This Alienware laptop still features no-expense-spared premium construction and an advanced cooling system so that the laptop never gets too hot to the touch. Check out our very own m15 review. The GTX 1660 Ti is considerably more powerful than the previous generation GTX 1060.

Alienware m17 17″ 1080p Intel Core i7-9750H 6-Core GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Gaming Laptop for $1124.64

Use code “EXTRA17”

The Alienware m17 is the newly designed 17″ laptop and weighs only 5.8 pounds, which is remarkable given its payload. It’s easily one of the best laptops you can get in terms of build quality and under-the-hood power, especially at this price point.

Nintendo Switch V2 with Free Ematic Wired Controller for $299

There aren’t very many Nintendo Switch deals right now, but Walmart is throwing in a free controller when you get either the new generation Switch with the longer battery life.

Falcon Dust-Off Electronics Compressed Gas Duster 10 Oz (4 Pack) for $13.98

Why pay $10 for a can of compressed air at the local store when you can get 4 for nearly the same price on Amazon. You’ll need it to give that nasty keyboard of yours a good cleaning.

Flash Sale: MacBooks, iPhones, Gaming PC, And More Get Massive Discounts For Limited Time

With the weekend only hours away, Best Buy has kicked off a limited-time flash sale. The sale features everything from the MacBook Pro and iPhone X to a powerful gaming PC and a robot vacuum–yes, a Roomba. There are also a couple deals on true wireless earbuds, in addition to 4K TVs, Windows laptops, and a 256GB microSD card that will work perfectly with a Nintendo Switch. The Best Buy flash sale lasts until 9:59 PM PT on February 28 / 12:59 AM ET on February 29.

In the flash sale, you can save from $500 up to $1500 on a MacBook Pro, depending on the specs you want with your laptop. Thankfully, all of the MacBook Pros are capable of handling heavy workloads, including video, audio, and photo editing, and can even hold their own when it comes to gaming–just don’t expect the same experience you would on a PC, of course. The cheapest model is equipped with a 256GB SSD, so you don’t have to worry too much about storage space unless you’re dealing with big video files for editing. Each MacBook Pro also comes with a four-month subscription to Apple Music and a six-month subscription to Trend Micro Internet Security.

If you’re looking for a new phone, then the Best Buy flash sale is discounting the iPhone X by $400. Both the Space Gray and Silver models are discounted and boast 256GB of storage. The iPhone X is an older phone, launching November 2017, so don’t expect the latest tech seen in the iPhone 11 line of phones.

Best Buy also has quite the powerful gaming PC featured in its flash sale. The iBuyPower gaming desktop boasts a 9th-gen i7-9700K processor, an RTX 2080 Super graphics card, and 16GB DDR4 RAM, in addition to a 480GB SSD and 1TB HDD. This PC is capable of running most games at ultra-high settings at high frame rates. It also comes with a keyboard and mouse, so all you’ll need is a monitor and then you can hit the ground at a full sprint. Thankfully, Best Buy has a great deal on an Acer Predator G-Sync monitor, too.

There are a ton of other deals in Best Buy’s flash sale–including 4K TVs and more–so be sure to check out the full slate of deals to see everything.

Simpsons Short Will Play in Front of Onward in Theaters

The Simpsons’ social media pages announced a new Maggie short film, which will premiere in theaters with Pixar’s Onward.

The short is called Playdate with Destiny, and an image accompanying the social media post shows Maggie sitting next to another baby overlooking what appears to be the country of Greece, judging by the blue-domed architecture.

“Maggie Simpson is speechless…,” the caption reads. “Playdate with Destiny, a new Simpsons short film before Disney & Pixar’s Onward. Exclusively in theaters!”

This will be the third time the Simpsons have made it to the big screen. The Simpsons Movie made over half a billion dollars at the box office 13 years ago and another short film starring Maggie played in front of Ice Age 4 and some screenings of Life of Pi in 2012 and 2013. That short was called The Longest Daycare, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. It lost the Oscar to Disney’s Paperman, which played in front of Wreck-It Ralph.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=the-top-30-simpsons-episodes&captions=true”]

Assuming there won’t be a Pixar short and a Simpsons short in front of Onward, this is the second Pixar movie in a row to not feature a Pixar-created short film in front of the movie. In Pixar’s defense, new shorts from the company are uploaded almost every month on Disney+ under the Sparkshorts label. A Toy Story short film also recently premiered exclusively on the service.

Does this mean that Pixar will only premiere new shorts on Disney+? Or is this just an extra bit of cross-company fun with Disney purchasing The Simpsons and the rest of 20th Century Fox for over $70 billion? Pixar will release another movie, Soul, in June, so fans won’t have to wait long to find out.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/25/the-simpsons-hit-run-in-dreams”]

The Simpsons have been in the news a couple of times over the past month. Apu’s voice actor won’t be playing the role after years of controversy and The Simpsons will feature an Avengers-satire on Sunday’s episode where Bart threatens to spoil a big superhero movie after attending a preview event, which leads to studio executives trying to silence him. Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo and producer Kevin Feige will all voice characters for the episode.

As for Onward, IGN praised the film in its review. IGN’s critic said, “Pixar’s Onward is enchanting; a sweet, heartwarming and fun-filled fantasy adventure tale featuring a solid voice cast.”

Kojima Productions Is Teasing Something, Fans Think It’s Silent Hills

Kojima Productions may be teasing its next game, following the release of Death Stranding in 2019. While there are no concrete details yet, fans have pointed out signs hinting that it could be Silent Hills–the game Hideo Kojima was working on with Guillermo del Toro before the former’s unceremonious departure from Konami.

The official Kojima Productions Twitter account recently tweeted an image of head of communications, Aki Saito, scribbling on a post-it note. Other Twitter users have been quick to point out some apparent clues in the tweet that point towards Silent Hills.

First off, the tweet uses the word “silent,” and if you zoom in on the image you’ll see that Saito is using a Pyramid branded pencil–in a presumptuous nod to Silent Hill’s most recognisable monster, Pyramid Head. As for what’s written on the notepad, it very clearly says, “Next week!” Could we be in store for some Silent Hills news next week? Or maybe this whole thing is just a red herring to disguise what Kojima Productions actually has up its sleeve.

There are some more clues, however. Late last year, Kojima himself tweeted out an image with the caption, “Working on the next concept while no one is in the office.” This, of course, led to Twitter users zeroing in on the fact Kojima is working alone in a silent office. Not to mention the hill displayed on one of his monitors.

The Metal Gear Solid creator also name-dropped P.T. in another tweet, explaining that he watched Thai horror movie The Eye when making the Silent Hills teaser, and that he’s doing so again to “awaken my horror soul.”

Another interesting tweet that could feed the fires of speculation comes from Masahiro Ito, an artist that has worked on the series and was crucial to the creation of iconic monsters. He tweeted “Pyramid Head R.I.P.” On its own, it’s not much, but in 2017 he also tweeted, “If I should make a new Silent Hill, I would not use Pyramid Head or kill him in its opening.”

Any return to Silent Hill is complicated by the fact Konami still owns the rights to the franchise, but stranger things have happened. GameSpot will keep you updated if Kojima Productions announces anything next week.

Fans Find Hidden Teaser for Amnesia Developer’s Next Game

The developer behind horror games like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA has a new teaser for its next game

Frictional Games has led people on a scavenger hunt with their last few hidden videos, but the latest one shows something. It phases in and out of the darkness from the eyes of a character saying,

“Don’t lose it. No, no, come on. Need to find him. He must understand. I am Tasi. I am still Tasi.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/28/new-frictional-game-i-am-tasi-teaser”]

The desert scene that appears for a matter of three seconds shows a few details worth analyzing. First, there’s a sandstorm and what appears to be a cavern with a bright light coming out of it. It’s not uncommon for Frictional Games to force players underground during brutal weather like in the Penumbra franchise.

Also, the desert doesn’t have much going on aside from a rock, a tree, and a few crystalline looking rocks. The odd cavern and crystals allude to it being another sci-fi game from the developer.

The other main focus of the video is the short dialogue from what may be a protagonist named Tasi. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to analyze. However, the character says they need to find “him” and that he needs to understand something. This leaves a lot of room for theories and guessing for sleuths in the community.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=25-scariest-games-of-this-generation&captions=true”]

Frictional Games first teased this new project using an Alternate Reality Game (ARG). Eventually, this led to a website named “nextfrictionalgame.com” with a pulsating brain neuron that has since changed. The picture below now shows the fetus of a growing baby.

Within the last month, two other videos were uploaded by the developer, “Box 52, Tape 16” and “Box 7 Reel 2, Partial Success“. Credit to the /r/gamedetectives subreddit for discovering the second video. It’s only a matter of time until more people find secrets surrounding the Tasi teaser.

Borderlands 3 Hotfix Update Out Now; Full Patch Notes Revealed

Developer Gearbox Software has released a brand-new Borderlands 3 hotfix update on PC, PlayStation 4, Google’s Stadia cloud gaming service, and Xbox One. The patch addresses a number of community concerns, including progression issues, stuck enemies, weapon adjustments, and more, all of which is detailed in the full patch notes.

A number of fixes go toward a lot of gameplay problems, namely those relating to progression and enemies. After the hotfix is applied–which is done through the main menu–game progression during missions like All Bets Off should be resolved, allowing you to finally kill that last enemy so that you can move on. Further, enemies should no longer get stuck in locations such as Cistern of Slaughter and Billy the Anointed should not teleport as often during a fight. Finally, the hotfix will prevent you from getting stuck in the second VIP room at Beggar’s Berth.

Elsewhere in the hotfix, Borderlands 3 will see a variety of its weapons adjusted. All Dahl assault rifles have had their damage increased by 35%, the legendary shotgun Lob had its magazine increased from four to 12, the legendary sniper Woodblock had its vertical recoil slightly reduced, and more. Check below for a full list of tweaks made in Borderlands 3’s upcoming hotfix.

PAX East is officially underway, and Gearbox has shared a few details about what’s coming to Borderlands 3 soon. The looter-shooter’s second campaign-focused DLC–Guns, Love and Tentacles–kicks off on March 26 with a wedding between Sir Hammerlock and Wainwright Jakobs. The studio also teased Borderlands 3’s third expansion, which brings outlaws and dinosaurs together sometime this summer. Both are part of the game’s Season Pass.

Parasite Storyboards Set to Be Released as a Graphic Novel

Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite storyboards are set to be transformed into a 304-page graphic novel, released by Grand Central Publishing on May 19, two days ahead of the one-year anniversary of the film’s premiere at Cannes.

Grand Central, who acquired the North American rights to the literary work, which has previously been published in South Korea, describes the book as “a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of one of the best films in years and a brand-new way to experience a global phenomenon.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/14/parasite-official-trailer”]

The pages of the graphic novel will be filled with Bong’s hand-drawn illustrations from the pre-production stage, coupled with dialogue, camera directions, and staging notes, which will be translated from Korean to English for the upcoming release.

“Director Bong’s illustrations share the illuminating power of his writing and directing, making the Parasite graphic novel a gorgeous, riveting read and fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse at the making of one of the best films of the year,” senior editor Wes Miller said in a statement, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The book is also set to include a foreword written by the director, as well as early concept drawings and photos from the set, to take the reader even deeper into the vision that gave rise to the historic Oscar-winner.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=oscar-record-holders&captions=true”]

Parasite made history at the Oscars this year, as it became the first non-English-language film to win Best Picture. The film also picked up awards for Best International Feature and Best Original Screenplay, while Bong became the first South Korean filmmaker to win Best Director. With armfuls of trophies, Bong tied with Walt Disney for the most Oscar wins in one night.

In our review of Parasite, we commended Bong for crafting “a stellar dark comedy about class warfare”, saying he is “a virtuoso director at the very top of his game.” IGN also named Parasite the best movie of 2019 and one of the best movies of the past decade. Amid the critical acclaim, Bong announced that he is turning Parasite into an HBO limited series.
