Reno 911 Looks Just as Deranged in New Season 7 Trailer

Fan-favorite comedy Reno 911 returns for its long-awaited Season 7 on May 4, more than a decade after it left our screens – and the only thing that’s really changed is that the screens are a little bit smaller this time around. Streaming platform Quibi has revived the series for 12 new episodes, and we’ve got an exclusive first look at the full trailer, which is every bit as deranged, risque, and hilarious as the first six seasons. Watch it above or in the player below:

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/29/reno-911-season-7-official-trailer”]

Quibi’s Reno 911 revival reunites the original cast, including creators Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Thomas Lennon, and Niecy Nash, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui, Ian Roberts, Joe LoTruglio and Mary Birdsong.

“It was definitely a trip to have the entire original cast back together,” Lennon told IGN. “It’s a little bit like being in the Eagles and then doing the Eagles ‘Hell Freezes Over,’ but the fact is that the cast was better, funnier and sharper now than any time before. It was amazing to see how everyone had grown as improvisers and actors, because everyone came out of the gate with no preparation.”

Quibi is designed to be watched in “quick bites” on your phone, with episodes lasting 10 minutes or less and released daily, which Lennon said was a perfect format for the series: “One great thing about doing the new Reno episodes for Quibi was the time allotment. The fact is if you watch the new Quibi episodes, you will notice that there’s not really much different than the old TV episodes, but you may notice that they’re leaner and funnier and probably better.”

Check out new photos from Reno 911 Season 7 below:

And since Quibi’s shows are shot in both horizontal and vertical framing so that viewers can position their phone whichever way they prefer, Lennon said, “the cool thing about the Reno 911 episodes and Quibi’s turnstyle format is you’ll see a completely different person or reaction depending on which way you hold your phone.”

You may spot a few familiar faces in the star-studded trailer, and Lennon previewed a couple of highlights for us: “I have a lot of favorite [episodes] coming up in the new season on Quibi, but two I’ll point out that I think are worth watching are episode 6, which has Patton Oswalt playing a really amazing new character with a very very intense radio show. And there’s a super fun episode called Lieutenant Dangle’s Space Force Try Out, which features Tim Allen as a space force commander putting Lieutenant Dangle through basic training to go on a mission to Venus. Somehow it’s stupider than it sounds.” Other guest stars in Season 7 include Dave Holmes and Ron Pearlman.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/18/reno-911-season-7-squirrel-clip”]

As for whether there could be a new Reno 911 movie following 2007’s Reno 911: Miami, Lennon said, “I suspect if there’s ever another Reno 911 movie it will play out in a streaming venue not unlike Quibi where you can watch it quite conveniently whenever you want. Honestly, I would love to make another Reno 911 movie. We wrote a second movie called Reno 911 SOS and the outline for that movie is in our book, Writing Movies for Fun and Profit.”

Three new episodes of Reno 911 will debut on May 4, with new episodes launching weekdays on the Quibi app. For more from the Reno 911 team, check out their TikTok channel. What do you think of the new Reno 911 trailer? Hit the comments with your reactions.

Cliff Bleszinski Working On New IP, Not Sure If It’ll Be A Game

Cliff Bleszinski, former Gears of War producer and head of the now-closed studio Boss Key Productions, says he’s keeping busy during the pandemic by making something new. While he isn’t sure what form it will take yet, he does mention that a new game is a possibility.

In a pair of tweets, Bleszinski says he’s “noodling” with a new intellectual property, and that the characters and world he’s crafting somehow revolve around dogs. He said he’s unsure if it will ultimately become a movie, game, graphic novel, or TV series.

Cliff Bleszinski is most known for his work at Epic Games, having been the lead designer on the first trilogy of Gears of War games. When he left Epic in 2012 he said he was stepping away from video games, but he went on to found the independent studio Boss Key Productions in 2014. That studio produced Lawbreakers and, facing financial difficulties, jumped into the battle royale market with Radical Heights just before ultimately closing in 2018.

Since then Bleszinski co-produced the Broadway musical Hadestown and has said he’s working on a memoir of his time in the games industry. He’s also offered to consult on the Gears franchise.

The Gears franchise is now being managed by The Coalition, a new studio Microsoft established as caretakers of the franchise. It most recently releaased Gears Tactics, a tactical spin-off in the vein of the XCOM series. For more, check out GameSpot’s Gears Tactics review.

Cris Tales Isn’t Shy About Its Chrono Trigger Influences, But It Has New Ideas Too

Revealed at E3 2019, Cris Tales is a time-bending 2D tribute to classic Japanese role-playing games. In a similar vein to Chrono Trigger and Radiant Historia, Cris Tales brings together a cast of young heroes as they travel the world and explore three distinct time periods in the past, present, and the future. It leans heavily into time-manipulation gameplay by allowing you to explore and interact with characters across different eras in real-time, which results in various consequences, expected and otherwise, in your adventure ahead.

A free demo of the opening hour of Cris Tales is available now on Steam, but we had the chance to get an early look at the game’s next major story event set in the walled city of St. Clarity. From here, we got to see how in-depth the game’s time-travel gameplay can get. In addition to storylines and side-quests that can bend and alter with your actions, protagonist Crissbell can also manipulate the flow of time in battle, allowing her to amplify attacks and weaken foes with the use of her time crystals.

Speaking with GameSpot, Modus Games executive vice president of production Derek Neal and Dreams Uncorporated studio head Carlos Roca Silva explained what went into the making of Cris Tales.

“For us, this is very much a passion project. Both Carlos and I grew up playing these traditional JRPGs like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy IV, VII, the Lufia series, and even Suikoden,” said Neal. “For me personally, the thing I feel is different about modern RPGs is that feeling of an epic, worldwide quest. Like all of those old school JRPGs, you had airships that you could go around places, and in Final Fantasy IV, there was a dungeon that was a castle, and then that castle would burrow under the sand and move into other places. So there’s this feeling that they’re going over this whole world and that your actions are changing the world. What we wanted to capture was that more subtle journey that these old RPGs built up to.”

One of the more striking aspects of this tribute to a particular style of JRPG is Cris Tales’ fantastic 2D graphics, which features some fantastic hand-drawn visuals that are stunning to see in motion. According to the developers, the works of Genndy Tartokovsky and Craig McCraken–the creators of the Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, respectively–served as key influences for Cris Tales’ 2D aesthetic, which echoes that of a lush and vibrant animated fantasy series.

There’s a lot of charm with the game’s unique 2D style, giving way to some heartfelt and humorous moments with the characters and scenarios. That said, Cris Tales does tackle some larger social issues, which the developers noted were pulled from their real-life experiences.

“Yes, there’s a lot of elements there, but we were very proud that a lot of those elements that you see there are heavily influenced by Colombian culture and architecture,” said Silva. “So when you entered the walled city, St. Clarity, that’s heavily inspired by Cartagena, which is a very touristic place here in Columbia that sees many visitors from all over the world. Outside of it, you see a lot of what happens in the touristy places near the beach, where a lot of people live in places that are not as nice. But another thing that we wanted to put in there is like the floods that you see in the city, that’s also inspired by real floods that you see here in Columbia, in a city called Barranquilla, where you see how, whenever it rains the whole city stops. Because it’s like a downhill city, and whenever it rains, the sewer system, it’s so badly done that the floods happen throughout all of the city. So our inspiration for the design of the city pulled from real life.”

During the demo, we got to explore the setting of St. Clarity, which revealed many of the game’s more advanced time-travel mechanics and in-depth story-telling moments. An underlying element at play in St. Clarity is the social situation between the haves and have-nots. The city’s lower-class live to the bottom trenches of the town, which is prone to flooding due to the city’s poor sewer system, while the upper levels house the wealthy and powerful.

In Cris Tales, there’s a significant focus on the concept of cause and effect, resulting in some moments throughout your quests that ripple out to different eras. While the actual mechanics of exploring towns and interacting with NPCs are very similar to other games of its ilk, Cris Tales introduces the active time-travel mechanics, allowing you to view three versions of a setting, simultaneously. Exploring St. Clarity’s past, present, and future, all at once, leads to some unusual situations where you’ll need to examine the past to make the present, and then the future, into a better place for all.

What I dug most about Cris Tales is how it makes its time-travel gameplay a constant element. This is especially true during the turn-based battles. While the standard attacks and magic skills with your party members are present, the ability to time-travel adds a surprisingly engaging and amusing twist to battles. For instance, the character Willhelm is a plant mage that can summon poisonous mandragora to attack foes. Initially, these plants are young and do minimal damage, but with Crissbell’s time-travel abilities, you can age up the plants to have them grow faster in battle, allowing them to deal more damage. This also extends to enemies–you can age up monsters by taking them to the future and defeating their more frail form with ease.

While it wears its influences for the classic time-travel games like Chrono Trigger on its sleeve, the approach to time travel in Cris Tales feels more present, and I really liked how it kept this aspect of the game in clear focus. It didn’t feel gimmicky, but rather a fully fleshed-out concept that can lead to some surprising outcomes. According to the developers, many of the choices you make in Cris Tales will eventually result in different endings for the story. Set for release later in 2020, Cris Tales is shaping up to be a fun tribute to classic games that has a stunning sense of style, and its own clever interpretation of time-travel.

Deep Rock Galatic Leaves Early Access This May

Ghost Ship Games has released a new trailer for Deep Rock Galactic, which announces that the Steam Early Access game will officially release for both Xbox One and PC on May 13. The co-op first-person shooter will be available for $30 USD / €30 / £25.

“When we started developing Deep Rock Galactic four years ago, none of us at Ghost Ship Games had imagined the game as it is today,” Ghost Ship Games CEO Søren Lundgaard said. “While many of the core features have evolved and work as we hoped, there are also entire sections of the game that we didn’t dream of, and that is largely due to our community.”

First entering Steam Early Access in 2018, Deep Rock Galactic sees you and up to three friends team-up as a group of dwarven miners. There are four classes of dwarf, and your team is encouraged to work together in order to explore procedural-generated caves and reach your goal. Mistakes can see you accidentally encountering hostile aliens, which your team will then need to defeat.

At launch, Deep Rock Galactic will have two cosmetic DLC packs available for purchase–they’ll include armor sets and weapon skins.

Dead By Daylight Update Releases Ahead Of Tome III: Escalation

Dead by Daylight has received a big update, with all-new features, content, bug fixes, quality of life adjustments, and balance changes included. Update 3.7.0 is set to get the game ready ahead of the scheduled release of Tome III: Escalation on April 29.

Maps such as Coolwind Farms and MacMillian Estate are being altered with the new tools the developers have implemented. Various maps will have changes to the size, layout, spacing, and spawning mechanics, with aspects of the maps being balanced to remove some unfair exploits players have been utilizing.

One of the main mechanics in the game for the survivors is repairing generators in order to escape. The devs have made two major changes to this mechanic in the update: reduced efficiency when repairing with other survivors and skill check bonuses. The speed reduction for repairing a generator with other survivors has been raised to 15%, with the reduction increasing by a further 15% per additional survivor.

The amount of points earned for great skill checks has been doubled from 150 points to 300, while the bonus progression percentage has been reduced to 1%. The two repair perks, Prove Thyself and Stake Out, have been altered too. Prove Thyself repair bonus speed has been increased from 10% to 15%, while Stake Out’s great skill check bonus has been raised to 2%.

Various quality of life improvements have been added as well in the update. Legion tracking has been altered so that The Legion will now regain their tracking abilities as soon as Feral Frenzy ends, rather than at the end of their fatigue. The developers have added more visual effects and audio to the animation for attempting to escape the hook in order to make it more obvious that the character is taking damage and speeding up the sacrifice.

The perk icon for Head On will now light up with a timer when ready to be activated, giving players a better understanding of when the perk is available to be used. The mori animation has been updated, now beginning to play once a short interaction is complete in order to avoid the mori from being cancelled repeatedly to annoy someone.

Lastly, the developers have further updated the projection hit improvements they made a few months back. Now, coming within range of an injured survivor will have a lingering effect, allowing players to get a protection hit a few seconds after the injured survivor moves away.

The new Tome and Rift will release on April 29. Dead by Daylight is available on PC, Xbox One, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Android and PS4. Currently the game is available for $12 on Xbox One as a part of Microsoft’s Un-Halloween Horror Sale.

Here Are The Top 5 Biggest Box Office Flops Of 2019

2019 was a huge year for the global movie market, with Avengers: Endgame reaching $2.79 billion to become the highest-grossing and most profitable movie in the history of cinema. The Lion King, Frozen 2, Joker, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Toy Story 4 were among the nine movies to cross $1 billion at the global box office. But not every film from 2019 was so successful.

Deadline has rounded up the biggest box office flops of 2019, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix claims the unfortunate record for the biggest loser of the year. Based on experts and sources, the site claims the movie ended up losing $133 million.

It had a budget of $200 million, and it made just $252 million at the global box office (the bulk of which came from international markets). There were also significant marketing costs and other expenditures that turned the film into an overall money-loser, according to the report. You can see the full P&L sheet at Deadline.

Dark Phoenix began production before Disney’s gigantic deal to buy the entertainment assets of Fox, which includes X-Men. Going forward, the X-Men franchise will be produced by Disney and Marvel boss Kevin Feige. Disney/Marvel has not yet announced its plans for the future of X-Men beyond the X-Men spinoff The New Mutants which was slated for April before being delayed.

Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey/Phoenix, with a supporting cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Jessica Chastain. The movie was directed by Simon Kinberg, who made his directorial debut on the project.

2019’s other box office disappointments included Terminator: Dark Fate ($122.6 million loss), Cats ($113.6 million loss), Gemini Man ($111.1 million loss), and Missing Link ($101.3 million loss), according to Deadline’s numbers.

  3. Cats — $113.6 million loss

After Life Season 3: Ricky Gervais Says He Has Ideas For A (Possible) Next Season

Actor, writer, and director Ricky Gervais has created some very memorable shows over the years, including The Office and Extras. All of his shows have lasted only two seasons, but he said in a new interview that he could be convinced to bring his latest show, After Life on Netflix, to a third season.

Gervais told Deadline that he could envision a third season of After Life “because I love the world.” More specifically, Gervais said the characters he created are very interesting and worth exploring in greater depth. The setting, a small town in the UK, is also compelling enough to examine more, he said.

“There are so many strong characters. I’d say there are six characters that could have their own sitcom; that could be the lead in a sitcom,” he said, adding that he is not lacking for ideas. “Even the place is a character, I think. We’ve only seen five hours of all those people. That’s nothing. How well do you know someone in five hours? You know, it’s still only half a season of an American sitcom, if you could both seasons.”

However, Gervais said he won’t do a third season of After Life unless the response to season 2 is overwhelmingly positive. “Netflix have got to say, ‘We really want you to do a third season.’ Then I’ll do it. I won’t do it for the sake of it. I won’t do it to get paid,” Gervais said. “I won’t do it because they need another two and a half hours on their platform, you know? I’ve got to know that it’s a pleasure for a lot of people, and then I’ll do it. Otherwise, I’ll do something else.”

After Life season 2 ended in dramatic fashion, and it set up events to come, so fans of the show may be hoping Gervais can be convinced to make season 3. The six-episode season 2 premiered on April 24.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare/Warzone Patch Notes Released For April 28 Update

After previewing the patch notes for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone‘s April 28 update, developer Infinity Ward has now posted the complete list of changes and tweaks.

This update brings Modern Warfare/Warzone up to version 1.20. According to CharlieIntel, it’s 10 GB on PS4 and 13 GB on Xbox One. On PC, those who only have the free-to-play Warzone will see a 9 GB update, while people who bought Modern Warfare must download a 32 GB update.

On PS4 and Xbox One, the update includes another download called Data Pack 1. After you’ve installed the patch and select a mode, you’ll be prompted to install this Data Pack 1. After the download completes, you need to close the game and launch it again to continue playing.

For Warzone, the April 28 patch includes a few important updates and changes. First, there is a new item called the Armor Satchel, which allows you to carry up to 8 armor plates (up from 5). These satchels can be found in loot crates and they drop after taking down an enemy player. The Satchels do not themselves contain any armor plates; they only expand the number you can carry.

Additionally, the speed and size of the gas circle has been adjusted with the new update. On top of that, Warzone’s cargo truck has been brought back into the Solos mode, though its turning speed, acceleration, and top speed have been nerfed. The update also moves the scoreboard so it is visible from the pause menu.

In terms of general fixes, this April 28 update introduces a new “deadzone” option for controllers that gives you a finer level of control, if you wish. The update also fixes various exploits and out-of-bounds glitches, while it also fixes an issue that could prevent players from meleeing an enemy while on top of an ATV. You can see the full patch notes below.

It appears the previously announced cheating updates–which brings new player-reporting tools to the game–is coming sometime later, as it is not mentioned in the patch notes.

To mark the release of this update, Modern Warfare and Warzone are offering double XP and new playlists this weekend.

Parks And Rec Reunion Special — Co-Creator Shares More Details On What To Expect

The cast of NBC’s beloved workplace comedy Parks and Recreation are reuniting for a special one-off episode that will help raise money for COVID-19 relief. Series co-creator Mike Schur has now shared some more details about the show, including information about the plot and how it was filmed.

During a conference call attended by The Hollywood Reporter, Schur said the story will involve Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope trying to maintain a sense of normalcy and connectedness during the COVID-19 crisis where people are physically separated.

“The whole special is not about the disease,” Schur said. “It’s about people coping with it and navigating their daily lives. The most important theme of the show is: Leslie Knope believes in friendship. She was loyal and friendly and put all her eggs in the power of friendship. It’s about her connecting with people and holding that group of characters together at a time when they’re unable to leave their homes. That’s the running theme.”

The episode is canon, but fans hoping for it to reveal details about what happens next to Leslie Knope in her political career won’t get any answers. “We made a bunch of references in the finale to potential things that might happen to various people and we left all that out,” Schur said. “We wanted this to be about what was happening in their life at this moment. There are no future Easter eggs–at least none that are intentional, anyway.”

Schur also confirmed that the special will give a story explanation for why the Parks and Rec couples, including Leslie and Ben, Ann and Chris, and April and Andy, are separated during the lockdowns.

The cast filmed themselves using iPhones, while Scur and other producers watched the shoots on Zoom to provide direction. It was a “slow and laborious” production, Schur noted, adding that this is not a sustainable way for making episodes of television.

The Parks and Rec special airs this Thursday, April 30, on NBC. All 10 members of the main cast are set to appear, including Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Rob Lowe, Adam Scott, Jim O’Heir, and Retta
