Pokemon Sword & Shield’s Max Raid Event Is Ending Soon

Pokemon Sword and Shield‘s latest Max Raid event is coming to an end very soon. The event concludes at 4:59 PM PT / 7:59 PM ET on Monday, May 11, making this your last chance to easily score some of the games’ most popular competitive Pokemon.

Until that time, players of both titles will have a much better chance of finding Tyranitar, Dragapult, Togekiss, Whimsicott, Excadrill, and their pre-evolved forms in Max Raids. Additionally, Heat Rotom will appear in Max Raids in Pokemon Sword, while Wash Rotom will be available in Pokemon Shield.

If you haven’t yet participated in the event, you’ll first need to connect online to refresh your Raid dens. You can do so either by activating the Y-Comm or going into Mystery Gift from the menu screen and selecting Get the Wild Area news. Be sure to also check out our Sword and Shield Max Raid guide for tips to help you defeat the Raid Pokemon.

Two DLC expansions for Sword and Shield–Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra–are scheduled to be released this year. The former is slated to arrive in June, with the latter following in the fall, and each will introduce a load of new content to the games, including new and returning Pokemon, additional features–like the ability to explore Raid dens with other players–and more.

Developer Game Freak is also introducing a new Mythical Pokemon called Zarude, which plays a feature role in the series’ latest film, Pokemon the Movie: Coco. Zarude is able to learn a brand-new, exclusive move called Jungle Healing, which restores HP and cures status effects for Zarude and other ally Pokemon on the field. Fans in Japan fans who pre-order tickets to the Pokemon movie will receive download codes for Zarude and Shiny Celebi, but international distribution details have not yet been announced.

In other Pokemon news, Nintendo recently shared its updated list of Switch best-sellers, which revealed the new Pokemon games have now sold more than 17 million copies combined. Thanks in part to Sword and Shield and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Nintendo Switch Online service has also passed a new milestone.

Gift Cards for Your Last-Minute Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Did you completely forget about Mother’s Day this Sunday? It’s completely understandable, as the weeks have started to blur together and the months no longer have meaning. It’s definitely not too late to send your mom a digital gift by way of a gift card.

Right now, Barnes & Noble offers a $10 reward on the purchase of a $100 gift card, which is a solid deal, especially if mom likes books. But there are plenty of other ways to get a digital gift for mom, too.

[poilib element=”commerceDeal” parameters=”slug=online-email-gift-cards”]

The nice thing about gift cards is you don’t have to worry about spending your money on something your intended recipient might not like. It’s also convenient because the gift can be delivered instantly via email, or in some cases, scheduled.

If you’ve been dragging your feet on gifts for Mother’s Day (or if it totally slipped your mind), I definitely recommend checking out one of the gift cards above. Or, failing that, have you considered all a macaroni necklace has to offer?

Silence Of The Lambs Reboot TV Series Coming To CBS

Ever since NBC’s Hannibal TV series met its untimely end back in 2015, there has been a murderous cannibal-shaped hole in our hearts just waiting to be filled. Thankfully, CBS has just announced its serialized The Silence of the Lambs reboot has been greenlit for the network’s next season.

As we previously reported, The Silence of the Lambs’ Clarice Starling (played in the 1991 film by Jodie Foster and in 2001’s Hannibal by Julianne Moore) will be portrayed by Pretty Little Liars’ Rebecca Breeds. The new show picks up six months after the film’s conclusion, taking place in 1993, and focusing on Starling’s “untold personal story.” Kal Penn (House), Michael Cudlitz (The Walking Dead), Devyn A. Tyler (Synchronic), and Nick Sandow (Orange Is the New Black) have also been cast, though, as Entertainment Weekly notes, there’s “no word yet on who will play the franchise’s iconic villain, Hannibal Lecter.”

EW also reports that the upcoming CBS season will feature a reboot of The Equalizer, a 1980s TV series perhaps best known now for its adaptation into two Denzel Washington action movies. The new version will star Queen Latifah in the leading role as “an enigmatic woman … who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn.” The supporting cast includes Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black), Liza Lapira (NCIS), and Chris Noth (The Good Wife).

Alongside The Silence of the Lambs and The Equalizer reboots, CBS’ next broadcast season will also include a new sitcom from The Big Bang Theory’s Chuck Lorre called B Positive. The comedy follows “a therapist and newly divorced dad” (played by Silicon Valley’s Thomash Middleditch) who encounters a “woman from his past” (Masters of Sex’s Annaleigh Ashford) while searching for a kidney donor.

CBS has only been able to predict that these shows will air “sometime during the 2020-2021 broadcast season”–according to the EW report–as a result of the pandemic’s impact on the typical fall line-up’s production schedule. For now, you can help pass the time until our next serving of Hannibal by reading our list of the series’ most disgusting murder sculptures, or read editor Phil Hornshaw on the show’s frightening appeal in the March 3 edition of Now Watching.

For some reason, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales has flown under the radar compared to other mainline entries in the series but, make no mistake, it is an exceptional game. We gave it a 9.4 “Editor’s Choice” in our review and, although you may not think you’d enjoy a card-based game set in the Witcher universe (I certainly had my doubts, especially because I didn’t like Gwent), you owe it to yourself to give this game a shot.

Rick and Morty: Chris Parnell Gives Update on Season 5

The latest installment of IGN’s Watch From Home Theater is a little different from the norm. IGN readers voted on their favorite Jerry-centric episode of Rick and Morty, and the winner was Season 1’s “Meeseeks and Destroy.” Jerry Smith himself, Chris Parnell, stopped by to watch this classic episode, reflect on the challenges of being Jerry and even give an update on the status of Rick and Morty: Season 5.

Rick and Morty ‘Meeseeks and Destroy’ Watch Party w/ Chris Parnell – WFH Theater

If you missed the Rick and Morty WFH Theater, you can still rewatch the stream in the link above. But if you just want the juiciest details from the stream, read on to find out everything Parnell had to say about the series and his tragically unloved character.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=rick-and-morty-the-10-biggest-wtf-moments&captions=true”]

What’s the Status of Season 5?

An IGN viewer asked Parnell about the current status of Season 5 and whether it might be coming down the pipeline soon. After all, creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon promised a faster turnaround for new seasons, and we know the series was renewed for a whopping 70 episodes after Season 3.

Parnell dashed any hopes of Season 5 being right around the corner, unfortunately. He revealed that while the next season has been written and at least partly storyboarded, none of the actors have recorded their lines yet.

Parnell said, “We have not started recording Season 5, but I know they have, certainly, episodes written and have it boarded to a certain extent. But I don’t know when we’ll start recording.”

Most likely, that means no more new episodes in 2020 after the second half of Season 4 wraps in late May. The silver lining, at least, is that Parnell doesn’t foresee the ongoing COVID-19 situation interfering with the process of recording lines.

“I’ve upgraded my home setup – even though it doesn’t look like it – so I can actually record proper sessions from home,” he said. “You know, as long as the studio does some safety protocols and stuff like that, it’s an easy situation to go into a booth and record and not have to encounter anybody.”

Getting Into the Jerry Mindset

For many fans, it’s Jerry, not Rick or Morty, who ranks as their favorite character on the series. He’s an entertaining guy, but he’s also a perpetual sad sack loser who rarely gets any respect. We were curious if Parnell ever finds it difficult to get into the mindset of Jerry Smith and playing a character who seems to be the universe’s favorite punching bag. According to Parnell, it’s surprisingly easy to be Jerry.

“Well, it’s fun to play a character that’s put upon like Jerry is by, really, everyone else in the show. Especially Rick, obviously. It’s fun to play someone who’s essentially a loser. For better or for worse, it’s not hard for me to tap into that part of myself. It’s not a big leap for me to play Jerry. Take that as you will.”

Parnell returned to the topic of identifying with Jerry a bit later in the stream, saying, “The low self esteem is something I struggle with. I’ve pretty much dealt with it through therapy, and you have to have a certain amount of confidence to do something like SNL. But I can relate to the loser in Jerry for sure. I think that helps inform a fair bit of my comedy, because I’m often playing characters you wouldn’t typically describe as winners.”

It seems Parnell had an especially easy time getting into character for “Meeseeks and Destroy,” as he revealed he’s a terrible golfer who has exactly one game of mini-golf under his belt.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/30/rick-and-morty-season-4-episode-6-never-ricking-morty-review”]

Group Recordings and Improvisation

One of the more surprising reveals during the stream came when Parnell told us the cast has never done a group recording session. Instead, the various actors record their lines individually.

“We’ve never done a group record. Which… is fine. I think everybody kind of likes recording solo. Spencer [Grammer] is in New York now, most of the time, and Sarah [Chalke] is in Canada most of the time. It kind of makes sense that we would do it separately.”

Parnell also told us he doesn’t tend to improvise lines during his recordings, leaving the improv mostly up to Roiland. “It’s really just Justin that does the improv. I don’t do a lot of improv, because the scripts are really well-written and well-thought-out. The idea that I’m going to go in the booth and come up with something in my head that’s better than what they’ve spent weeks or days or months thinking about is a little presumptuous.”

Parnell’s Favorite Episodes and Moments

When asked about his favorite Rick and Morty episode so far, Parnell went with a fan-favorite choice – Season 2’s “Total Rickall.” He also named Mr. Poopybutthole as his favorite character. “I think he means well. He’s saddled with an unfortunate name, but he doesn’t seem to mind it.”

However, Parnell has a different pick for his favorite Jerry-centric episode, and no, it’s not “Meeseeks and Destroy.” He favors Season 3’s “The Whirly Dirly Conspiracy.”

When a viewer asked if Parnell has a favorite Beth and Jerry moment, he turned toward Season 2’s “Big trouble in little Sanchez.”

Parnell said, “When they go to the marriage counseling planet and they get to see a physical manifestation of how Jerry sees Beth and how she sees Jerry, and Jerry’s a little, pathetic, wormy creature. I found that very delightful.”

Is Jerry a Villain?

Some fans argue Jerry is actually the villain of Rick and Morty, given his victim complex and how so many characters (including his own family) seem to outright despise him. However, Parnell said he doesn’t necessarily agree with that viewpoint.

“I think he’s generally undeserving of the heat he gets. He does play the victim, I guess, a fair bit. He’s sort of gotten used to that mode of operating. But he can also be content doing his own thing and puttering around, which is why I think he’d do okay in a quarantine situation like this. But, you know, I obviously have a lot invested in Jerry, so it’s hard for me to feel like a bad guy.”

Parnell did admit Jerry comes up a bit lacking in the father department, as we asked him whether he felt Jerry had a stronger attachment to Morty or Summer.

“That’s a good question,” he said. “I don’t know remember him showing a lot of parental affection to either of them. If there’s evidence to suggest his love of one over the other, I don’t remember it.”

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=the-top-10-rick-and-morty-episodes&captions=true”]

One-Upping Rick

A CineFix viewer posed an interesting question to Parnell. What’s one area in which Jerry could actually one-up Rick? The answer? Astronomy.

“I think if he could prove Pluto was a planet, he would enjoy that. I think any time his relationship with Beth is good – on those rare occasions – and solid, he feels good about that in the face of Rick’s constant scorn and disbelief that he’s married to his daughter.”

Switch Exclusive Ninjala Has Been Delayed By Almost A Month

Ninjala, the Switch-exclusive free-to-play fighter that was due to release on May 27, has been delayed. The game will now release on June 25.

The news was announced on the game’s Japanese Twitter account, which attributes the delay on the global spread of COVID-19.

Ninjala recently hosted an open beta, although it did not go smoothly, as many players had issues getting into it due to server load. The delay might have something to do with these issues.

It seems that developer GungHo Entertainment is all-in on Ninjala, as there’s also an animated series in the works. We’ll be able to see if the game is worth all the excitement soon, despite this delay.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for some other great games to play on Switch, here are our recommendations.
