Fortnite Awakening Challenge Hub: How To Unlock Special Marvel Emotes

Fortnite Chapter 2’s Season 4 has a lot of content packed into its battle pass. Each Marvel skin, including Thor, She-Hulk, Mystique, Storm, Groot, Wolverine, and Iron Man, comes with a set of Awakening Challenges that unlock special emotes. New Mutants Cast Explains Why You Should See This X-Men Movie In Theaters

It’s a strange time for movies–production is starting up (and then, just as quickly, shutting back down), major releases are hitting theaters in some countries and not others, drive-ins are making a comeback and would-be blockbusters are getting sent directly to digital streaming services. With how up-in-the-air many fans are feeling, it would certainly follow that the creatives behind these movies are feeling the same–but some are doing their best to find the silver linings.

In the case of New Mutants, the last entry in Fox’s now-defunct X-Men franchise–or the first of the post-Fox-buyout era, depending on your perspective–director Josh Boone actually thinks the movie’s strangely timed release is something of a blessing. Going straight-to-digital was not something that was even on the table, Boone assured. “We’d never had a conversation about it […] it was always really designed, especially the last act of the movie, to be on big IMAX screens because of scares and everything else. I would always suggest that anybody try to see it in the movie theater. I see these news articles where like 800 people are in a party in LA at a house without masks on–it’s like, how about instead you put a mask on and go to the movies?”

What’s more, the themes of the movie lend themselves to this particular era, Boone explained. “We have a movie coming out now about kids who are quarantined and can’t get out of a hospital–[they can’t get out] like we can’t. It seems like the universe needed us to wait a little bit longer for the movie to come out, so it could be now.”

Blu Hunt, who plays Dani Moonstar, echoes the excitement. “I’m excited for people to see how it really cuts together. You guys have seen so many clips, and you know so many little things and now at this point interested in the movie know how the comic goes. I feel like seeing it all together and streamlined will be a surprise. I’m excited for people to get that kind of–relief is one word.”

Henry Zaga, who plays Roberto De Costa, is more hopeful to see fans’ reaction to the big bad–the Demon Bear, which has been teased in trailers and comes directly from the source material–but more than that, he’s excited for fans to see the movie’s heart. “I think a lot of people are expecting it to be horror and it is–there are a lot of scary elements to it,” the actor said. “You can’t tell these kids stories without scaring the crap out of them, but it also has so much heart. They’re really young and they’re really trying their best and you really feel it.”

Naturally, being young and stuck in a hospital with only a small handful of peers to keep you company lends itself to some pretty interesting group dynamics. Zaga highlighted the unlikely friendship between Roberto and Sam (Charlie Heaton), as two people from opposite worlds finding common ground. “They’re the most unlikely of best friends. You know, they couldn’t be more different but ultimately they see each other for who they really are on. Sam knows that behind all the jokes and the bullying Roberto is a lovely guy who is really struggling with his past. Meanwhile, Sam is actually trying to get better. He’s really going by the program.”

Meanwhile, Hunt’s character Dani Moonstar approaches the group from a totally different perspective. “Dani’s very curious about everyone. She really sees the way that, like, Sam treats himself and she’s really not okay with it. I think Dani’s coping mechanism is to focus on everyone else’s issues, instead of focusing on her own, as a way to not face herself.”

This stirs up some contention with some other members of the group–specifically Illyana Rasputin (Ana Taylor Joy), who Hunt says “views Dani like a threat.” Meanwhile, Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams) quickly sparks up a romance with her. “I think because my life felt so chaotic when [we were] making the movie,” Hunt elaborated, “making the movie felt very chaotic for me, there was a lot of pressure–so the scenes that I got to do with Maisie, those scenes were the most relaxed days.”

In fact, Dani and Rahne’s relationship is something Blu hopes people are excited to see. “I know when I was a girl and I was in high school, I would have loved seeing them together. I just think people are really gonna like them.”

New Mutants is playing in select theaters now.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s New Titan Sub-Class Turns You Into A Wrecking Ball

Destiny 2’s new Stasis sub-classes are set to shake up Bungie’s sandbox in a big way when they’re introduced in November’s Beyond Light expansion, offering players more options for teamwork as opposed to using overwhelming force to tear through enemies. Earlier this week, Bungie detailed how the new Warlock Shadebinder sub-class can immobilize foes from afar and then move in close for the kill with staff-based melee attacks.

Today’s update on the Bungie blog revealed how Titans will become Behemoths when players harness the power of the Darkness. While Warlock Shadebinders are specialists at freezing opponents and Hunter Revenants can slow enemies down, the Behemoth sub-class can use Stasis for both offense and defense.

Behemoths can control the battlefield by creating crystalline walls to block enemy gunfire, or they can stop adversaries in their tracks with their new Super ability. Called Glacial Quake, the Titan Behemoth’s new attack first forms a crystalline gauntlet around their fist that is then slammed into the ground and freezes enemies in place. Crystal armor then encases the Behemoth, allowing them to run faster, jump higher, and hit harder.

Bungie says that these new Titan Stasis abilities do allow for some finesse, as players can cancel a slide and use that momentum to launch into a massive Stasis-powered leap, which can also be canceled and transformed into a devastating slam attack.

Titan Behemoth Stasis Aspect
Titan Behemoth Stasis Aspect

A new Fragment and Aspect was also shown off for the Behemoth. One of the Titan’s class-specific Fragments is the Tectonic Harvest, which creates Stasis shards whenever a crystal is shattered. Grabbing one of these shards up will grant you or your allies more melee energy when picked up. The Whisper of Durance Fragment can also be slotted into the Aspect, granting Titans increased strength and extending the duration of effects that slow enemies down.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to add Beyond Light to their collection when it releases, along with the Forsaken and Shadowkeep expansions. These will also be arriving “soon” according to the September update for Xbox Game Pass.

Twitch Now Lets Anyone Host Amazon Prime Video Watch Parties

Twitch has rolled out its Watch Parties feature to all creators worldwide, allowing the platform’s streamers and subscribers to watch Amazon Prime Video together.

The Verge reports that anyone with an Amazon Prime Video account can now host a public Watch Party when accessing Twitch via a desktop, with other Amazon Prime Video account holders invited to participate and watch the stream. It adds, “Watch Parties is currently not available on mobile devices, but Twitch is working on it and expects to roll out said feature in the coming months.”

It is also important to note that Amazon’s library of movies and TV shows will be restricted based on an individual user’s geographical location despite the feature now being globally accessible. Amazon’s catalogue varies between regions, therefore the streaming of licensed content will be prohibited on titles that are unavailable in the host country. For instance, US residents will not be allowed to stream or watch UK-only titles, such as Star Trek: Picard.

Twitch started rolling out the Watch Party feature in October of last year, allowing some creators to test out the function and come together with their viewers to watch, react, and discuss any movie or TV show that is available with their Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. Twitch made the feature more widely available to users in the US this year, before making the move to roll out Watch Parties to streamers and subscribers worldwide.

While movie theaters were forced to temporarily close their doors during the global coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, streaming services witnessed a surge in online traffic, as consumers searched for alternative ways to connect with family and friends. Some turned to Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that allows multiple users to stream a Netflix show or movie together at the same time.

The global expansion of Twitch’s new Watch Party feature offers additional entertainment options for those hosting or attending virtual gatherings, with Amazon originals like The Boys, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and Homecoming all available to stream. Plus, Amazon Prime Video is due to debut the highly anticipated second season of The Boys on September 4, with a special three-episode premiere.

For the latest on the streaming service, read our rundown of all the new movies and shows coming to Amazon Prime Video in September.

Project Athia Studio Shows Off Its Impressive Open World Engine

Luminous Productions has shown off its impressive open-world Luminous Engine, which will presumably power Project Athia, Square Enix’s upcoming exclusive PS5 game.

The video arrives as Luminous Productions developers prepare to present a series of online sessions during the Computer Entertainment Developers Conference 2020.

Lush environments are shown being built in the World Editor, with lakes and forests populating once-barren environments. The video is focused on the Luminous Engine’s approach to procedural generation – the description notes that this proprietary environment builder has the power to fill open worlds “in a natural yet intentional way.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/03/luminous-engine-world-editor”]

As well as an online session about procedural generation, the developers will present talks on collision-aware 3D path-finding and automating Quality Assurance using deep learning.

We first learned about Project Athia when it was revealed during June’s PS5 event. The game is yet to offer a release date but is being written by Rogue One’s Gary Whitta and a team of A-list writers and is described as a “thrilling, other-worldly adventure.” In other PS5 news, check out this video comparing Nvidia’s new 3000 series GPUs to the next-gen console specs.

Crash Team Racing Dev Reiterates That Updates Have Ended, Teases Exciting New Projects

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled developer Beenox has announced that there will be no more updates for the popular kart racer. Fans of the game have been clamouring for new content, but the developer says it’s busy working on other projects.

“We’ve been getting quite a few comments asking for more new content for CTR,” Beenox said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that you all are still enjoying the game.”

The Beenox Pack, which was released back in March, is the final update for the game, and the developer says there’s no additional content in the works. “Part of the reason is that we’re hard at work on some incredible projects, including making the N. Verted modes in Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time (which will blow you away), and some other things we can’t quite mention yet,” Beenox said.

The developer goes on to mention that all of the current modes and features in Nitro-Fueled will continue on, including online multiplayer, leaderboards, and the Pit Stop.

The kart racer received an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled review. Critic Oscar Dayus praised the game as an excellent remaster, saying, “Nitro-Fueled maintains the spirit and rock-solid foundations of a childhood favorite while building on it and modernizing it where necessary–even if the handling might take a bit of getting used to.”

Meanwhile, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which picks up after the end of the third game, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, is set to launch on October 2 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. If you’re interested in picking up Crash’s first new adventure in over 20 years, we’ve got you covered with a pre-order guide.

The Sims 4’s Star Wars Game Pack Is a Charming Way to Digitally Visit Galaxy’s Edge

Traces of a galaxy far far away have long been part of The Sims 4 in the form of costumes and even a little statue of Baby Yoda, but with The Sims 4’s upcoming game pack, The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu, the world of Star Wars exists alongside the regular game world in full force. Much like reliving my excitement walking into Disneyland’s Galaxy’s Edge for the first time, launching Journey to Batuu was an exciting event. Once that initial excitement passed, however, I saw in my six hours of preview playtime that this game pack is, as seemingly intended, a fun accompaniment likely meant for visits rather than long-term stays.

Journey to Batuu allows your Sims to take a vacation to Batuu, a world where Simoleons have no meaning and you’ll need to earn the local Galactic Credit currency by completing missions. Or, you know, by cheating. It’s The Sims, so naturally I figured out how to cheat my way into a small fortune immediately. You’ll land in the Black Spire Outpost with some credits even without cheats, though, and a Star Wars-appropriate outfit for any Sims in your party. From there you can take on quests for the Resistance, First Order, and Scoundrels or just hang out in Oga’s Cantina.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=the-sims-4-star-wars-journey-to-batuu-preview&captions=true”]

Quest completion means more Galactic Credits, but more importantly, reputation points for the three factions that then build up to raise your rank within each. You will have to choose between the Resistance and First Order as doing quests for one will earn you negative reputation points for the other, but so long as you don’t have a quest active, you can pick up tasks for the Scoundrels regardless of your allegiance. You can also choose to stick with the Scoundrels and prioritize earning money if you’d prefer. The new Star Wars aspiration does split into two goals that lets you focus on either the faction conflict or side with the smugglers and focus on getting credits.

[poilib element=”quoteBox” parameters=”excerpt=I%20was%20delighted%20to%20recreate%20my%20own%20real-life%20BB-unit%20droid.”]

Aligning with one of the two conflicting factions and improving your rank within them can change the faction banners present throughout Batuu, earn your Sim access to special bases for the Resistance or First Order, and give them special interactions with Sims around them. For instance, Rank 1 First Order Sims can check IDs of other Sims. If the person is aligned with the Resistance, the two will fight. If the First Order Sim wins, they’ll take the rebel into custody for questioning. I didn’t get very far in either quest line in my time (earning reputation is a slow affair) but it was neat to see how my Sims fit into helping the two rival factions even early on.

The quests themselves are a handful of tasks that sometimes require your Sim to have enough skill points in things like Programming to complete. In one Resistance mission my Sim needed to hack into a First Order communications panel to scramble starfighter traffic monitoring systems. On my first attempt her programming skill was too low which resulted in her failing to disrupt the system. The only consequence was a nasty-looking shock and a bad mood, but I was free to let her study up at lightspeed (by this I mean cheat and give her the skill points of my choosing) and try again. On the other hand, some are quests that don’t have much risk and only require you to chat with others. An early First Order quest tasked my Sims with spreading First Order propaganda to at least five Batuu residents. They met it with mixed results, but their opinion of the information wasn’t important for my quest.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/27/the-sims-4-star-wars-journey-to-batuu-gameplay-trailer”]

There are other basic quests similar to those two that can be repeated for your Sim to earn extra faction points, but the main missions that require certain ranks are the real fun ones. These are a sort of choose-your-own-adventure activities that take place off-planet. Your Sim will board their faction’s spacecraft, launch, and the mission begins. Like when a Sim goes to a job, you’ll receive text pop-ups with options for the mission. Choices for each mission vary and some options will even be locked if your Sim doesn’t have the skill points to execute the option properly. It seems like rocket science, handiness, programming, and fitness are going to be important skills for successful Sims in Batuu.

[poilib element=”quoteBox” parameters=”excerpt=Once%20your%20Sim%20has%20a%20lightsaber%2C%20they%20can%20challenge%20other%20lightsaber-weilding%20Sims%20to%20duels.”]

Aside from factions and quests, your Sim can build a lightsaber or even a droid, just like we can in the real Galaxy’s Edge. I was delighted to recreate my own real-life BB-unit droid in Journey to Batuu and see it trail my Sim all throughout the three neighborhoods of Batuu. You can build BB-units or R-units and give them personality chips if you’ve reached a high enough rank in the three factions. Droids are more than just little buddies, though. They can create distractions while you’re hacking into panels, they can play music, and they can help improve your navigation when you’re on an off-world mission. If your Sim has the right skills, they can improve their droid’s capabilities too.

I unfortunately didn’t have time to build a lightsaber, but once your Sim has one, they can challenge other lightsaber-weilding Sims to duels. I adore the authenticity and details found throughout this expansion. In my time I saw a variety of neat creatures lurking around Batuu and even had a drink at the same table I did in real life in Oga’s Cantina. It’s a great way to experience Galaxy’s Edge when visiting in real life isn’t an option.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/11/20/the-sims-4-xbox-one-and-playstation-4-review”]

However, there is something to be said about taking a break from Batuu. For those unfamiliar with The Sims expansions, Journey to Batuu is a game pack, meaning it’s not quite as big as a full expansion pack (and comes at a lower price point too), but still with plenty to do. But as a game pack, it’s not exactly a location in The Sims world you’ll want to exist in perpetuity, although you can if that’s your jam. There are limited spots across the three neighborhoods for your Sims to take care of their more private needs and the quests can get repetitive.

When you do leave, though, you leave behind your galactic life that’ll wait for you until you return. There are of course plenty of neat household items you can use to deck out your home in Star Wars gear. You can also use items you collected in Batuu to decorate your home. I’m looking forward to eventually opening my own Star Wars-themed restaurant with all the new foods my Sim experienced in Batuu.
