The official Treyarch Studios Twitter announced today that the official reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies is happening later this week. At 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 30, the official reveal of this new zombies story will go live on the official Call of Duty YouTube channel.

Fans of the series know that Call of Duty’s Zombies mode has grown far beyond the first Zombies mode that debuted in Call of Duty: World At War. What began as a wave-based zombie survival game mode grew into a separate entity with a complete story and dozens of maps. The longest-running Zombies storyline started years ago and continued through 2018’s Black Ops 4. Spoilers aside, what occurs in Black Ops 4’s Zombies was considered a definitive end, and considering Treyarch’s use of the word “new” in “a new #Zombies story begins,” it’s safe to say that Black Ops Cold War will see the beginning of a new zombie storyline for the Call of Duty series. We’ll be getting the first look at that this week when the official reveal goes live.

The Epic Games vs Apple legal battle begins properly today as a hearing takes place to review evidence and decide on the legal outcome of Apple and Epic’s feud.

A hearing will take place today, September 28, with U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in place to make the decision. Public opinion seems largely on Epic’s side as the company is seen to be challenging the status quo, but that’s no indication as to where the judge will draw the line.

If you’ve not been keeping up with Epic and Apple’s disagreement, this all began when Epic implemented a direct-pay system into Fortnite. This meant that any V-bucks purchases sent money straight to Epic, bypassing the Apple App Store and ensuring Apple could not take a cut.

Naturally, Apple did not take kindly to this, and so the company removed Fortnite from the App Store. In response, Epic filed a lawsuit against Apple. It also began the #FreeFortnite hastag, along with an in-game event that featured a parody of the Apple 1984 commercial. Many saw these tactics as Epic weaponising its fans to hold sway against Apple.

Apple responded by claiming that any damage Epic was suffering was “self-inflicted”. Despite requests from Epic, the courts ruled that Apple did not have to reinstate Fortnite on the App Store, which further damaged Epic’s fortunes. Epic quickly submitted a second request to be reinstates after reporting that daily active users of Fortnite on iOS was down over 60%.

The fate of this feud now lies with U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who will make a decision based on today’s hearing of the Preliminary Injunction, which begins at 9:30am.

In Greek mythology, Aphrodite – the goddess of love – is said to have been born from the ocean. More specifically, she arose from the foam that bubbled up after Cronus chopped off Uranus’ testicles and hurled them into the water. That life-giving foam is my quest objective in a new, IGN First-exclusive hands-on demonstration of Immortals Fenyx Rising, although notably this PG-13 remix of the Greek Mythological Universe opts for a giant pearl rather than a severed gonad.

This two-hour demonstration, which takes place in an entirely different zone to that explored by us and other press outlets in a previous hands-on, is set in the previously unseen Valley of Eternal Spring; the verdant region dedicated to Aphrodite. This is the first area following Immortals’ tutorial (although technically not the first area you have to do; the island can be explored in any order you like), and protagonist Fenyx is looking to restore the goddess of love, who has found herself transformed into a tree by the dastardly Typhon. Thinking back to the conditions of her birth, Aphrodite suggests the life-giving bubbles of the ocean could cure her condition, and so I embark on a simple-but-elongated physics puzzle to guide a giant ball down a mountainside to the coast.

The route is mildly dangerous, patrolled by harpies and gorgons, and the pearl itself is guarded by a huge cyclops. A previous hands-on had instilled in me confidence about my combat abilities, but I immediately find myself struggling against these beasts. During my tour of The Forgelands, Fenyx had access to a wide range of god-like abilities, but at this stage in the game I have barely any skills at all. Fighting the cyclops is a scrappy affair; I hide behind rocks and ridges on my approach in order to pull off a sneak attack and get some extra damage in with my opening blow, and then play cautious with my strikes, dodges, and retreats.

Experiencing Immortal’s power curve backwards has been an odd experience, but the contrast between the two really demonstrates the sizable journey Ubisoft has implemented for player development. When Fenyx can leap around and deal a dozen cuts in mid-air like the Yoda vs Palpatine battle from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, you really do feel like you’ve been blessed with mythical super powers.

Without those powers, though, Immortals gently funnels you into activities that don’t ask so much of your meagre abilities. Aphrodite’s area may not be the tutorial zone, but as the region adjacent to the offshore training isle it’s clearly still designed to teach players the street smarts required by the world. Seeing a group of demonic soldiers scares me away, but my diverted path leads me into a wood filled with pomegranate trees. I pick them one-by-one, using my bow to shoot them from branches, before realising that hitting the trunk with my axe will release all the fruit from their lofty prison. I then brew the juice into restorative potions, which help keep me alive when I have no choice but to butcher a gorgon while rolling the pearl down the mountain.

Sometimes that’s a barrier to break down, sometimes it’s enemies to defeat, and the finale is a simple shoot-the-target puzzle that opens a gate through which the pearl tumbles into the waters below. It’s not a taxing quest, but I appreciate that it’s an extended puzzle, rather than a ‘go here, kill that’ checklist. Further core quests in subsequent areas will need to be more challenging to hold my attention, but hopefully the simplicity here is due to this being the first area of the island you visit. The island being freely explorable from the very start – you don’t have to do this region first – does make me wonder exactly how the core quest challenge curve is handled, though.

That’s not to say that the Valley of Eternal Spring is devoid of challenge at all, though. There are tasks clearly designed to be tackled after you’ve explored further and significantly improved Fenyx’s powers. One such activity is a major boss fight against a wraith version of Achilles, which unlocks after I apply the healing bubbles to Aphrodite’s roots. Throughout the Isle, Typhon is able to send corrupted versions of Greek heroes to hunt you, akin to the way Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s mercenaries would turn up out of the blue. You can never truly defeat them in these random encounters; to do that you must best them in a boss fight that takes place in the underworld.

Ubisoft let me cheat and power up Fenyx so I could try out the Achilles fight. Upon entering his lair there’s a short traversal challenge that must be overcome before stepping into the battle arena itself. The fight is a pretty standard boss battle – I had hoped for something more flashy, akin to Odyssey’s battle with Medusa, that made distinct use of the character’s famous heel – but even with my extra powers I still found I was on the back foot. This is clearly a late-game activity that requires familiarity with the systems.

In this second hands-on I saw a different side to Immortals; one more focused around a core quest. It’s a side that I’m less enamoured with compared to the vast array of smart puzzles I discovered in the previous demo, but I think that’s mostly down to me not having enough abilities to be set fully loose. The greater focus on story did mean I was able to learn more about Fenyx though; they are gleefully obsessed with the Greek myths in the same manner that Marvel’s Kamala Khan is obsessed with the Avengers, and this makes for an endearing protagonist.

The freeform character creator, which lets you mix and match any of its components to create whatever kind of Fenyx you want, is simple but effective. I made a Fenyx who is essentially Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed who’s been listening to too much pop punk, but you could make him or her whatever you please within reason. That feeling of doing whatever you please permeates through everything I’ve played so far, even if the experience feels a touch more restrictive without many powers. If that freedom only grows as Immortals progresses – which, let’s face it, its obvious inspiration suggests it will – then I think Ubisoft Quebec has made something quite exciting: the first true post-Breath of the Wild open world.

Former NFL star Lance Briggs is making the jump to comic book writing. Briggs has teamed with co-writer Kyle Higgins (Nightwing) and artist Danilo Beyruth (Man Without Fear: The Death of Daredevil) to create The Trap, a full-length graphic novel inspired by Briggs’ own struggle to make it in the world of professional sports.

The Trap is a futuristic science fiction story about an aspiring sports star named Jaylen Robinson. Jaylen has the potential to make it big playing the galaxy’s favorite pastime, surfriding, but that career is thrown in jeopardy strikes when the cash-strapped athlete steals a senator’s car and accidentally shoots him.

The creative team also includes colorist Tamra Bonvillain, letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou and designer Sasha Head. Check out an early preview of The Trap in the slideshow gallery below:

Backers can buy the digital version for $10 and the hardcover for $40, while higher tiers offer bonuses like exclusive prints from artists like Elsa Charretier and Declan Shalvey. The Trap is expected to ship in August 2021.

No Time To Die: The Official James Bond Podcast is launching on September 30 ahead of the worldwide release of the 25th Bond film this November.

The official 007 Instagram account shared a short video teaser for the new podcast, which will feature exclusive interviews with Daniel Craig, Rami Malek, Léa Seydoux, Lashana Lynch, Jeffrey Wright, Naomie Harris, director Cary Joji Fukunaga, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and a host of key crew members, including the film’s casting director and special effects supervisor.

The six-part series, hosted by film critic James King, will give listeners “unrivalled behind-the-scenes access” to the next Bond film. Each episode will focus on a different aspect of the franchise, giving fans the opportunity to learn more about everything that goes into the making of the iconic film series, from the guns and gadgets to the locations, stunts, costumes and cars.

In addition to all of this top-secret intel, Yahoo reports that the podcast will feature “the first listen to Hans Zimmer’s score for the film with brand new recordings from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.”

After “careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace” throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Sony pushed back the release date of No Time To Die by several months, moving it from April to November. The film is now expected to be released in theaters on November 12, 2020, in the U.K. and on November 20, 2020, in the US.

The upcoming film will see Bond’s peaceful retirement from active service interrupted when his CIA friend Felix Leiter tracks him down in Jamaica, seeking help to rescue a kidnapped scientist. The mission will set Bond onto the “trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.” It has already been heavily speculated that Rami Malek’s supervillain is a rebooted version of Dr. No.

The world is still mourning the loss of Chadwick Boseman, who died in late August after a years-long battle with cancer. Now, his 21 Bridges co-star Sienna Miller reflects on his unconditional generosity while they worked together.

In an interview with Empire, Miller explained that Boseman fought for her to receive an increased salary for her work on the film, even going so far as to giving up a portion of his own salary to help out.

Miller was hesitant to join the project at first as she was exhausted at the time from working non-stop, but Boseman convinced her to take the role of Frankie Burns as he was a big fan of her work.

“This was a pretty big budget film, and I know that everybody understands about the pay disparity in Hollywood, but I asked for a number that the studio wouldn’t get to,” Miller said. “Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid.”

“It was about the most astounding thing that I’ve experienced,” she said. “That kind of thing just doesn’t happen.”

The rules of time-travel have been debated by scientists and sci-fi fans alike for years, but now a student physicist has been able to “square the numbers” to show how paradox-free time travel is theoretically possible. This means that should someone be able to time travel, the dreaded butterfly effect might not be as inevitable as has been feared — but that doesn’t mean a time-traveler might not still face unintended consequences.

In a peer-reviewed paper published in Classical and Quantum Gravity, University of Queensland student, Germain Tobar, collaborating with the university’s physics professor Fabio Costa, mathematically discovered how, “time travel with free will is logically possible in our universe without any paradox.”

The math involved in all this is enough to make Will Hunting scratch his head but Tobar, like a different Matt Damon character, has been able to “science the shit” out of theorizing how one could travel through time without causing those pesky logical paradoxes that bedevil many a science-fiction protagonist.

One such example is the so-called grandfather paradox wherein, as their paper puts it, “a time traveller could kill her own grandfather and thus prevent her own birth, leading to a logical inconsistency.” Or, someone going back in time to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from happening would then nix the very reason why they ever traveled through time. Yes, it’s like those arguments about time travel in Avengers: Endgame all over again!

“This is a paradox – an inconsistency that often leads people to think that time travel cannot occur in our universe,” Costa said. “Some physicists say it is possible, but logically it’s hard to accept because that would affect our freedom to make any arbitrary action. It would mean you can time travel, but you cannot do anything that would cause a paradox to occur.”

Tabor basically said, hold my beer and went about proving that, theoretically, one can travel through time, exert free will, and not create any such logical paradoxes.

Because classical dynamics and Einstein’s Theory of Relativity are at odds with each other on the matter, Tobar’s paper calculated how closed time-like curves (CTCs) “are not only compatible with determinism and with the local ‘free choice’ of operations, but also with a rich and diverse range of scenarios and dynamical processes.”

Tabor’s calculations show how theoretically one could time-travel and exert free will in a way that wouldn’t prevent the reason why they went back in time. But it could make them wish they had never time-traveled to begin with:

“In the coronavirus patient zero example, you might try and stop patient zero from becoming infected, but in doing so you would catch the virus and become patient zero, or someone else would. No matter what you did, the salient events would just recalibrate around you. Try as you might to create a paradox, the events will always adjust themselves, to avoid any inconsistency.”

Last Year’s Prime Day Gaming Chair Deals

One of the best ways to figure out what kinds of deals to expect from this year’s Prime Day is to see what the online retailer did last year. Last year, a number of gaming chairs went on sale during the big day(s), including chairs from Homall, Respawn, and OFM. The discounts tended to be on the more affordable chairs, but they were good enough that they brought chairs that retail for $200 down to $100. Not bad
