Netflix’s Cobra Kai Season 3: Can Johnny And Miguel Save Themselves And Each Other?

At the end of Cobra Kai Season 2, nearly every character was at their lowest. However, none were quite as low as Johnny (William Zabka) and Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). After the high school karate riot left Miguel in a coma and Johnny banished from seeing his prized student, it seemed as though the heart and soul of the new Cobra Kai was dead. What’s more, Sensei Kreese (Martin Kove) reinserted himself as the leader of the dojo, kicking Johnny to the curb.

As Season 3 begins, the series will pick up right after it left off–which is bad news for both teacher and student. As has been seen in the trailers, Johnny’s drinking is more problematic than ever, and he winds up in legal trouble. Meanwhile, once Miguel comes out of his coma, it’s without the use of his legs. Luckily, though, the duo will eventually be able to help each other recover–which is especially good news for Johnny

“He feels this tremendous amount of responsibility and guilt for what happened,” Zabka told GameSpot. “And he’s also lost [Miguel’s mom] Carmine and lost their trust–and he’s lost his own sense of trusting himself. Is he capable of leading? Because look what happened. So he’s afraid even to step in there for a minute because maybe he’s gonna screw things up more. But he loves this kid and he’s determined to get to him, even though he’s technically not supposed to see him, you know?”

The actor continued, “Miguel gives Johnny some strength. It’s a two-way street with that. It’s not that Johnny’s just his mentor, but it’s like with your own kids, you know, a lot of times your kids teach you something or they tell you something about yourself.”

Those are sure to be hard lessons to learn, but Johnny’s going to need them. After everything he’s done to help Miguel gain confidence in himself, Maridueña admitted that it’s been shaken by his injury.

“Karate instilled a lot of confidence in him and having this accident, where it feels like the one thing that made me confident was taken away from you, I think is going to set Miguel right back to square one,” he explained. “And there’s going to be a lot of building back up towards that confidence. And, we see just the small moments in the trailer, that it’s hard. It’s not a transition that can be made in a day. It’s a long transition to cope with being in the situation that he’s in and a long transition to hopefully get out of this terrible injury that he was able to sustain.”

Luckily, it looks like Johnny will be helping him cope in style. One of the images released from Season 3, which you can see below, finds the sensei and Miguel at what looks like a concert, having the time of their lives. The obvious hope is that it leads to Miguel regaining the ability to not only walk, but continue his karate studies under Johnny.

Of course, that begs the question of where those teaching would take place. After all, as explained by Zabka, standing in the way is his former sensei Kreese, “who stole the dojo from Johnny. He completely betrayed him again.”

How Johnny will rebound from that remains to be seen, but it’s certainly something to be addressed when Cobra Kai premieres on Netflix in January 2021.

The Resident Evil Movie Reboot Has Finished Filming

The new Resident Evil movie has finished filming and is ready for post-production, a tweet from the official Resident Evil account has confirmed. After the six-film series starring Milla Jovovich wrapped up in 2016, the new movie helmed by horror director Johannes Roberts is rebooting the video game adaptation with a brand-new cast.

The end of filming was announced with an on-set shot showing the film slate and an old TV showing static. We already know that the movie will be set in Racoon City in 1998, with Roberts saying he “really wanted to go back to the original first two games.” The director has said that he aims to tell “a grounded human story about a small dying American town that feels both relatable and relevant to today’s audiences,” while still recreating the terrifying experience of playing the game for the first time.

The new Resident Evil movie is scheduled to release on September 9, 2021.

The Resident Evil movie isn’t the only adaptation of Capcom’s iconic horror series that’s currently in the works. Netflix has licensed two shows based on the franchise, with one set to be a live action spin-off around two new characters in the Wesker family living in a place called New Racoon City, and the other an animated series about Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. The animated show, Infinite Darkness, is expected in 2021.

Wonder Woman 3 Is Being Fast-Tracked After Impressive Box Office For WW84

While the bar for a successful theatrical release isn’t high in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Wonder Woman 1984 has cleared it, reporting a box office of $16.7 million over its three-day Christmas opening weekend according to a press release. This figure is the best any movie has reported since the pandemic began, beating out Tenet and The Croods: A New Age‘s COVID-affected openings.

While the numbers would be disappointing in a normal year, Wonder Woman 1984 has done better than expected given the circumstances. It currently boasts a total box office of $85 million, with $68.3 million of that coming from outside the USA. And because of this, Wonder Woman 3 is being fast-tracked.

“As fans around the world continue to embrace Diana Prince, driving the strong opening weekend performance of Wonder Woman 1984, we are excited to be able continue her story with our real life Wonder Women–Gal and Patty–who will return to conclude the long-planned theatrical trilogy,” said Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Wonder Woman 1984 was the first of Warner Bros’ movies to release simultaneous in theatres and on HBO Max, as the company will do with all its film releases in 2021. Warner Media revealed that over half of HBO Max’s subscribers viewed Wonder Woman 1984 on the day it dropped, though the company hasn’t said if the release led to increased numbers of new subscribers to the platform. Not all Americans have had the chance to see Wonder Woman in theaters, with over half of the country’s theaters still closed due to the pandemic.

Wonder Woman 1984 has received a mixed bag of positive and negative reviews (GameSpot’s was one of the former, with a score of 9/10), resulting in an ambivalent score of 59 on Metacritic. Gal Gadot is attached for the next installment, with Patty Jenkins returning to write and direct. The next film may be a while off, however, with Jenkins already attached to an upcoming Star Wars Rogue Squadron movie with Disney.

This Spider Injects Something More Dangerous than Venom

It appears that the false widow spider (Steatoda nobilis) may inject its victims with something worse than just venom.

As reported by Science Alert, these spiders have been found to have bacteria on their fangs that has, in certain cases, left victims with “swollen hands, rotting holes of pus, threats of amputation, or even death.” The false widow spider has been mostly found in the UK since it was first spotted in the 1870s, most likely “having hitched a ride from Madeira and the Canary Islands off the African coast.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/27/animal-crossing-new-horizons-how-to-make-your-own-spider-island-tarantula-farming-tips”]

It has expanded its reach to as far as Ireland, and encounters with these spiders have increased as more and more people are forced to stay home due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“About 10 species of spiders common in north-western Europe have fangs strong enough to pierce human skin and deliver venom, but only one of them, the recent invasive noble false widow spider, is considered of medical importance,” says John Dunbar, a zoologist at the National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway.

Some experts have argued that “even if it is guilty of leaving a couple of holes, it’s the victim who supplies the necrotising bacteria by scratching at the site with dirty fingernails.” However, Dunbar’s team took false widows, lace-webbed (Amaurobius similis), and giant house spiders (Eratigena atrica) to their lab to swab them for bacteria to test that hypothesis.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”albumSlug=every-ign-spider-man-review-ever&captions=true”]

RNA analysis did reveal a variety of microbes on the spiders, and “out of 22 bacterial species found on false widows, 12 were potentially pathogenic to humans.”

Most of these microbes are found “just about anywhere” and don’t indicate that we are dealing with “plague-spreading monsters,” but there is still reason to be cautious.

Furthermore, some of the microbes found on these spiders showed “worrying grades or resistance to antibiotics.” The good news, however, is that all of them can be treated with a course of ciprofloxacin, a common antibiotic, but only time will tell if that changes.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart: Everything We Know

Ratchet & Clank is one of Sony’s longest-running series, blending classic 3D platforming with an array of wild and wacky weaponry. It also serves as a nice bit of variety in the PlayStation portfolio, complementing dark and serious games like The Last of Us and God of War with the spirit of a Saturday morning cartoon.

So it should come as no surprise that the PS5 already has a new entry in the works, called Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. But this Ratchet is also serving as a nice showpiece for the PS5, relying on a snappy dimension-hopping mechanic made possible by the new hardware’s faster-loading SSD. That may be why unlike some other launch window games for PS5 like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West, it’s not coming for PS4 as well.

Here’s everything we know so far about Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. For more on upcoming games, check out our most anticipated games of 2021.

Release Date

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is considered a launch window game for PS5 and was part of the new hardware’s promotion cycle. We don’t know exactly when it’s coming, but we do have a somewhat wide window thanks to a launch trailer. A PS5 trailer titled “New Worlds to Explore” shows footage from various confirmed PS5 games and states that Ratchet & Clank is anticipated in the first half of 2021.

That leaves a wide, six-month window when the game could release. Many companies put out games by March 31, tied to the end of the fiscal year. Sony has also started to put out games in the summer, as we saw with two of its biggest 2020 PS4 games, The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima.

Platforms

Unlike many other games in the PS5 launch lineup, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is exclusive to the new generation. Other first-party games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and even the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West will launch on PS4.

Ratchet is PS5-only, presumably because its central hook–a dimension-hopping mechanic that loads entire new environments almost instantly–is only possible on the new console. That’s because the PS5, unlike the PS4, sports a built-in NVMe SSD that results in much faster load times. Many games have benefitted from the SSD, like the lightning-quick loads in games like Spider-Man, and it even retroactively improves the load times for many older games running on PS5. But Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is built around the hardware, so it’s staying only on next gen.

Trailers

Sony has made a point of showing the dimension-hopping during its PS5 presentations leading up to the launch of the console. In it, we saw Ratchet journeying through portals and his surroundings would change instantaneously. It’s a flashy feature to associate with its new console, and it could have big gameplay implications as well.

The trailers have also teased a new female Lombax, who Clank finds when he’s separated from Ratchet. The series has long established that Ratchet is the apparent last of the Lombaxes, and his search for others of his species has been a continuous narrative thread. It’s unclear if this new character is finally another member of the Lombax family or from an alternate dimension, but that gives us some idea of what to expect from the story.

DLC Details

So far, there have been no details on downloadable content for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Ratchet games are not known for having DLC. The most recent release, 2016’s Ratchet & Clank, was essentially a retelling of the classic PS2 original. It did not include any DLC. None of that means that Insomniac couldn’t approach this newest game with a fresh approach that includes DLC, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if it never includes any.

Preorder Details

Preorders are not yet open for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Once it is available to preorder, it is likely to be another $70 game like Demon’s Souls.

God Of War Ragnarok: Everything We Know

2018’s God of War was a fantastic reboot of the over-the-top and grandiose action-adventure series starring the fallen demi-god Kratos, and developer Sony Santa Monica Studios plans to release the follow-up sometime next year. Revealed during Sony’s June PS5 reveal event, the next game will see the return of Kratos and Atreus as they explore more of the ancient Norse realms and encounter more powerful gods looking for retribution.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming God of War sequel coming to PS5 so far. For more on other upcoming new games, check out our most anticipated games of 2021.

The Story So Far

Though details are scarce about the sequel’s plot, it’s fair to say that Kratos and his son Atreus will have new enemies to face as Ragnarok approaches. Towards the end of the original game, both demi-gods have a brief encounter with the hammer-wielding god of thunder, Thor, and it looks as though it won’t be a peaceful meeting. In the reveal trailer shown off in June 2020, we saw a brief look at the logo for the next game, along with a voiceover from Kratos saying the words, “you must prepare yourself.”

Release Date

One of the most surprising details to come from the reveal teaser was the planned release date of 2021. The next God of War game is poised to be one of the PS5’s early heavy hitters; however, with the shifting changes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a possibility that 2021 may not be a sure thing. We’ll be sure to update this when new details come.

What Platforms Will It Release On?

From what we know so far, the God of War sequel is planned for PS5. However, Horizon Forbidden West, another sequel to a popular PS4 title that’s also scheduled for 2021, will launch on both PS4 and PS5 consoles, so there is the possibility that the next God of War will be a cross-gen game as well. Once more information is available, we will update this post.

Trailers

So far, the only trailer to be released for the sequel is the announcement trailer. In addition to hearing Kratos telling an unseen character, likely Atreus, to prepare for what’s coming, we also see a set of runes that translates to “Ragnarok.” You can check out the brief trailer below.

DLC Plans

As of right now, DLC plans haven’t been revealed for the game. Looking back at 2018’s God of War, it received a set of updates that added in additional content, including new armor, game rebalances, and the option to roll into a new game while keeping your gear and skills. It remains to be seen if the next God of War will have any post-launch plans, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated on what’s to come.

How To Pre Order

God of War: Ragnarok has not gone on sale just yet. Once it does, we will update this post with links on how you can secure physical or digital versions of the game.
