Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Gameplay Trailer Revealed At The Game Awards

Frontier Games revealed the gameplay trailer for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey during The Game Awards. Odyssey is the next expansion for Elite Dangerous, the space exploration simulation game. In it, players assume the role of a starship owner and get to undertake both more sedate activities like mining and more hectic ones like combat.

The new expansion pack, expected to release sometime in 2021, allows exploration by foot on worlds for the first time. Players will also get specialized suits and gear options for ground operations, a feature that includes social hubs across the galaxy.

Frontier also promised new dimensions to combat and will cater to players with different preferred styles. There will be weapon and gear options for both flashy, head-on fights and stealthy approaches.

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey preorders are available now, and the expansion retails for £30 / $40 / €35. Get it on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or FrontierStore.net. Elite Dangerous is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

In GameSpot’s Elite: Dangerous review, Leif Johnson rated it 7/10. He praised the game for its beautiful, massive world and great combat mode, but thought that the learning curve was a bit steep. Johnson commented, “True to its name, Elite: Dangerous is an intimidating beast. It’s a slow game that demands feats of patience, and it’s the kind of experience that may leave you unwilling to call yourself anything but a rookie even after dozens of hours. Once you scale its peak, though, its chief attraction is that it lets you see and travel farther than many other games have dared to. It may lack a certain spark and its missions tend to slip into drudgery, but I keep finding myself coming back to blast off toward any star in the night sky and eventually reach it.”

Among Us Shows Off New Airship Map At The Game Awards

As promised by Geoff Keighley ahead of the show, a new Among Us map was shown off during The Game Awards 2020. The 2018 mobile and PC game has had a huge year in 2020, and this new map shows that the game doesn’t intend to slow down anytime soon.

The map, coming in early 2021, is set aboard a floating airship and will be completely free. It gives you a choice of which room to start in among other new features, like ladders, new tasks, and more.

Among Us has been teasing this new map for a while. In September, developer Innersloth announced that it was canceling Among Us 2 in order to focus on the original, which had found success two years after it originally released. “All of the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will instead go into Among Us 1,” Innersloth wrote at the time of announcement.

Among Us has been so popular that even politicians are streaming it–Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez streamed the game for the first time in October, and it was such a success that she did it again a month later.

“In solo or co-op, fight with style in visceral, explosive combat against bloodthirsty monstrosities and become a Wild West Superhero,” Flying Wild Hog wrote on Twitter. We also know the game is headed to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2021.

Scarlet Nexus Gets New Trailer At The Game Awards

During The Game Awards 2020, a new trailer for Scarlet Nexus was revealed. The trailer showcases Scarlet Nexus’ story and characters while also providing snippets of the action game’s gameplay.

Coming in Summer 2021, Scarlet Nexus sees you play as a new recruit in an organization charged with protecting the world from supernatural monsters. You’re able to move objects with your mind as well as borrow the powers of your teammates to accentuate your abilities and attacks.

This translates into a gameplay experience that looks a lot like The Force Unleashed. You primarily bat enemies around with your sword, but you can rip pieces of the environment out of the ground and throw them at enemies, too. Time your attacks right and you can pull off more powerful combos, like splitting a heavy object into two pieces and pancaking an enemy between them.

Scarlet Nexus is scheduled to release for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

Switch Outsells PS5 And Xbox Series X With 1.35 Million Systems Sold In November (US)

The NPD Group released its monthly video game sales report on Thursday, and it confirmed that the Nintendo Switch continues to dominate in the US, even despite the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

The Switch–comprising the regular model and the Lite edition–combined to sell over 1.35 million units in the US during November. The Switch has now been the top-selling game console in the US for 24 straight months.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S also released in November, but the Switch did better that both of them. Sony and Microsoft have not disclosed first-month sales for their new machines.

In 2020 alone, Nintendo has sold 6.92 million Switch consoles in the US. This is a very strong number, as it surpasses the total number of Switch systems sold in all of 2019 with one month to spare. Nintendo said Switch sales in 2020 are pacing ahead of 2019’s figures by 426,000 units at this stage.

We’re expecting more Nintendo news soon, as the next DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be announced during The Game Awards.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Patch Notes (December 10): Nuketown ’84 Is Back

For the second day in a row, Treyarch has updated Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The December 10 patch, which is out now, is headlined by the return of the Nuketown 24/7 playlist and improvements and progression updates for the Zombies mode.

Nuketown 24/7 is, at its name suggests, a playlist featuring one map and one map only: Nuketown ’84. It replaces Motherland Moshpit in the featured playlists hopper.

Elsewhere, the December 10 patch fixes a recoil issue with the M60 LMG, while it also improves alignment of the multizoon scope for rifles.

The December 10 update also makes some changes to Scorestreaks, one of which is that the RC-XD is now capable of destroying sentry turrets with one explosion instead of two. The Napalm Strike has been nerfed, with damage and damage radius figures reduced.

You can see the full patch notes below, as posted by Treyarch on its website.

December is a big month for Call of Duty, as the much-anticipated Season 1 update for Black Ops Cold War and Warzone is scheduled for launch on December 16, following a delay.

Rachel McAdams Returns In Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness – Report

Actress Rachel McAdams will return for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after months of speculation, Deadline reports. She’ll join a host of other returning actors, including star Benedict Cumberbatch.

In the first Doctor Strange, McAdams played the role of Dr. Christine Palmer. She was Strange’s ex-lover and fellow surgeon. Palmer acted as a grounding character for Strange as he left behind his career as a brain surgeon to become Sorcerer Supreme. She played a small role in the film, leaving us speculating until this confirmation about whether or not she would return.

Confirmed cast members include Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Xochitl Gomez. Both Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Eijofor are expected to return as well. Sam Raimi is set to direct, returning to superhero comics for the first time since Spider-Man 3, replacing Scott Derrickson. Derrickson left earlier this year due to “creative differences.” Cumberbatch will also appear as Doctor Strange in the third Spider-Man movie, which is quickly collecting cast members, including Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Jamie Foxx as Electro, and J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022, though with the COVID-19 pandemic delaying so many movies, that could very well shift in the interim.

Disney+ Getting More Mature Content With Star Service

With Disney’s acquisition of Fox properties, many have wondered when movies and TV shows that were under the Fox banner would be coming to Disney+. Well, if you live outside of the US, you’ll be able to access a lot more content next year.

In the US, we have access to Hulu, which features plenty of more mature content. However, Hulu isn’t very big internationally, so Disney+ is launching Star to allow subscribers access to all of that content. CPO of Disney streaming Jerrell Jimerson discussed the upcoming Star integration in some markets, and set aside fears that younger viewers will be able to access the mature content.

“We worked hard to make sure our parental controls are second to none,” Jimerson explained. “To that end, we’ll ask subscribers to opt in for full access to the expanded catalog. We’ve created a simple process for them to change their settings, in order to view titles with higher ratings.”

In Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and many other markets, Star will be fully incorporated into Disney+. You won’t have to jump between apps to access things like FX’s Atlanta or the Christmas movie Die Hard. More mature Marvel projects like Logan and Agents of SHIELD will be a part of the Marvel section of Disney+.

“With the addition of Star, we’re making a service that tens of millions of subscribers already love even more compelling for older teens and adults, all while taking great care to ensure Disney+ remains a secure family friendly place for all our fans,” Jimerson concluded.

Many markets will be able to access Star when it launches on February 23, 2021. Japan and South Korea will gain access to Star later in 2021.

However, Latin America will not have the full Disney+/Star integration, as Star+ will be its own separate app. In addition to TV shows, movies, and original programming, Star+ will also feature live sports from ESPN–a Disney property. Star+ will launch in June 2021.

Disney Investor Day will feature a whole lot more news, and so far, we’ve learned that Raya and the Last Dragon will hit theaters and Disney+ Premier Access the same day.

Disney+ Will Also Offer Simultaneous Theatrical And Streaming Releases In 2021 (For A Price)

It’s Disney Investor Day and top Disney brass are offering updates on the company’s various strategies and brands for the upcoming year–and while that certainly makes for a lot of very dry financial discussion and corporate buzzwords, it’s also provided some news about some highly anticipated projects.

New animated movie Raya and the Last Dragon will be getting a similar treatment to the one that Mulan received back in September, with a small twist. Disney seems to be taking a page out of Warner Bros book with plans to release a selection of their high profile films simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ to be streamed. However, unlike Warner Bros, who announced that every one of their 2021 releases would be simultaneously available on HBO Max for the price of your subscription, Disney+’s releases will be “Premier Access,” and incur an added fee.

Disney executive Kareem Daniel explained: “In light of continued COVID related challenges in the marketplace and our commitment to providing consumers greater choice than ever before, we are pleased to announce that we will release Walt Disney Animation Studios’ epic adventure story Raya and the Last Dragon through Disney+ Premier Access at the same time that we debuted the film in theaters in March.”

For Mulan, this added fee was $30, on top of the $7/month subscription to the platform. The “Premier Access” phase of release lasted several months before Mulan was made available to everyone with a Disney+ subscription for no additional fee.

In addition to announcing the release date, Disney also tweeted a new poster for Raya and the Last Dragon. Take a look at it below.

It is unclear whether Raya and the Last Dragon will have the same $30 price tag for streaming access. It was also implied that Raya will be joined by other 2021 Disney releases, though titles have not been made available yet.

Raya and the Last Dragon will be streaming and in theaters where available on March 5, 2021.
