WWE’s Peyton Royce Gives Passionate Promo Demanding Asuka Match

Peyton Royce is a former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion and has been branching off the past year as a solo star but hasn’t received much of a chance in terms of being in the title picture. After Monday Night Raw this week, Royce, real name Cassie McIntosh, delivered one hell of a promo in arguing her case of getting a title shot.

“I’m not here to hide my talents,” she said on Raw Talk, Monday night’s post-show. “In fact, my talents are hidden by the opinions of others. Why not let me go? Why not let me go and see what happens? Our Raw Women’s Champion Asuka is out and, yes, that sucks for her, but when a talent goes down, a spot opens up. And that spot is massive. So why not me?”

Royce went on to say how difficult it was to relocate and pack up her life and move to an entirely different country with no real support system to chase this dream of being a professional wrestler, but she found herself stuck in the system.

“It actually hurts when you know deep in your soul to be where you are and striving for what you feel you deserve,” she continued. “My potential haunts me.”

Royce hasn’t won a singles match since November of last year and has been teaming with Lacey Evans the past few months. With Lacey now taking maternity leave, Peyton is striking out on her own once again. She’s been with the company for five years, and only has received less than a handful of championship matches, so she brings up a good point: why not her and why not now?

Watch Dogs: Legion Update 3.20 Adds Online Mode

Ubisoft has released the long-awaited online mode for Watch Dogs: Legion in its 3.20 update. The title update is now available across all consoles, though as previously announced players on PC and Amazon Luna will have to wait at least a bit longer.

The Legion Online Mode lets you construct a team of DedSec operatives, using the full suite of abilities granted by the game’s core “play as anyone” mechanic. That means there are multiple ways to deal with missions depending on the makeup of your team, like a construction worker that grants you special avenues of attack. You can also take part in co-op world events and earn exclusive rewards for playing through with your squad.

Aside from the big online update, the 3.2 patch also includes some general bug fixes. One of those is a missing mask bug that has been a community complaint recently, and all of your missing masks will automatically pop back into your wardrobe after you’ve downloaded the patch.

A handful of players on the Watch Dogs subreddit have reported they’re still running into trouble with their masks, while others say they’ve needed to restart the game in order to get the online mode started.

Ubisoft found a PC crashing bug for players with certain GPUs, and decided to delay the update on that platform. A new launch date hasn’t been announced. Luna, the streaming service from Amazon, is delayed for the same reason.

Jetpack Joyride 2 Emerges After Almost A Decade

Almost 10 years after the first game was released, Jetpack Joyride is finally getting a sequel that once again stars Barry Steakfries in his quest to stop the latest evil scheme of Dr Brains.

Much like the original game, Jetpack Joyride 2 is an endless runner where players touch the screen to make Barry jump over obstacles and enemies, or maneuver directly over and through more devious traps by using Barry’s jetpack.

One big change is that Barry now has a gun in addition to all of his other power-ups, which can be used in segments to take out hovering robot enemies. Don’t worry though, Little Stomper is still around and there’s even a robot dog sidekick.

Developer Halfbrick has begun rolling the game out in select territories and plans to complete the launch over the next couple of months. Much like the original game, Jetpack Joyride 2 will be free to play, but based on our short time with it appears to be packing even more paywalls, a deeper grind, and more unskippable adverts. If you’re interested in trying it out on iOS and Android, you can do so if you’re a resident of Canada, New Zealand, or Australia.

While Jetpack Joyride was one of Halfbrick’s earlier success stories back when mobile games were really starting to take off, it was Fruit Ninja that made the studio a household name. The Australian studio hasn’t released much in the mobile gaming space over the last five years as it was working on other projects, with its most recent titles being the 2016 games Fruit Ninja VR, Star Skater, and Dan the Man.

If you’d prefer to play around with some pocket monsters on your mobile device and you live in Canada, you can also check out the beta for Pokemon Unite, a MOBA-inspired spin-off that will be out later this year.

Fortnite Zero Crisis Finale Event Revealed For Season 6, And You Can’t Miss It

Epic Games has announced some crucial details about Fortnite’s Chapter 2 Season 6 update involving one of its new events, the Zero Crisis Finale. In a blog post, Epic confirmed how things will go when the big update arrives on March 16. Here’s what we know.

Zero Crisis Finale

When the update launches on March 16, Season 5 will officially come to an end. This will involve playing through the conclusion of Agent Jones’ mission as part of the Zero Crisis Finale event. “The aftermath of this event is sure to shape Reality as we know it,” Epic said.

This Zero Crisis Finale event is a “solo experience,” Epic said, and you can play through it whenever you log into Fortnite for the first time when the update comes out. This is a big change from the past, as previous events of this nature were structured more like live events where if you couldn’t attend it, or if servers were full, you potentially missed out. Fans complained about this, and it appears Epic listened and is delivering a change.

No Caption Provided

The Zero Crisis Finale event will go live at a specific time for its initial premiere, and Epic will announce more details soon about how you can watch it. For now, Epic teased that the event will kick off with “our most ambitious story cinematic yet.”

Weapon Discounts

With Chapter 2 Season 5 ending, Epic is dropping the price of exotic weapons across the island, while vendors have a greater supply as well. “Grab all you can carry and let chaos reign before your cache of Bars is reset at the end of this season to make room for exciting improvements in Chapter 2 Season 6,” Epic said.

Battle Pass

Fortnite’s Chapter 2, Season 6 update will usher in a new battle pass, so this is a good time to finish off as much as you can of the current one. Now is your last chance to finish off the Star Wars-themed quests, culminating in the baby Yoda The Child back bling at level 100

Epic also advised players that they can still unlock the Breathless Blades pickaxe by completing the quests offered by Fishstick or Lovely, but you need to do this before the current season ends.

Keep checking back with GameSpot soon for lots more on Fortnite’s Chapter 2, Season 6 update in the days and weeks ahead as we learn more about what’s coming.

New Evil Dead Movie Will Start Shooting This Year

The next Evil Dead movie will start production later this year. The news was confirmed by the horror franchise’s star Bruce Campbell, who stated that the movie will shoot in New Zealand.

Campbell gave the update about the new Evil Dead film to Knox News, while promoting a virtual screening of Sam Raimi’s classic original 1981 movie. He also stated that the film will take place “out of the woods” and will instead have a “a modern-day urban setting.”

The new Evil Dead movie will be directed by Irish filmmaker Lee Cronin. In June last year, Campbell stated that the title was Evil Dead Now, and revealed that he wouldn’t be reprising his role as hapless hero Ash. “You could have different heroes, different heroines in this case,” he said. “This one’s gonna be a little more dynamic. We just want to keep the series current. And the mantra, really, is that our heroes and heroines are just regular people. That’s what we’re going to continue.”

The original Evil Dead was followed by 1987’s more comedic Evil Dead II and 1990’s Army of Darkness. Raimi and Campbell produced the 2013 remake, which was directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe), and the Ash vs Evil Dead TV series, which ran for 30 episodes between 2016 and 2018.

Ash most recently appeared as a playable survivor in the game Dead by Daylight. Campbell performed the voice acting for the character. Another Evil Dead game is also in the works, with Campbell attached in some capacity.

Raimi’s next movie will be Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Marvel sequel is currently in production in London and releases in 2022.

Microsoft Now Officially Owns Bethesda, Which Will Make “Some” Exclusive Games For Xbox And PC

After getting approved by regulators, Microsoft’s $7.5 billion deal to acquire ZeniMax and its subsidiaries such as Bethesda has officially gone through. One of the biggest gaming deals in history is now complete, and it sets the stage for big things for Xbox going forward.

In a statement, Bethesda’s Pete Hines said you should not expect any “landmark announcement or changes right now.” Today’s announcement is about the deal getting officially approved; the specifics on what this means for Bethesda’s future comes later.

Hines did say that Bethesda expects that its studios will be able to continue to operate independently, but now with extra support and resources from Microsoft. Hines also teased that Bethesda will bring more of its games to the Game Pass catalog in the future.

“As we’e all shared, the expectation is that Bethesda Softworks and our studios will continue as we have in the past, just with more support and resources than we’ve ever had before,” he said. “Obviously, Game Pass has been an important initiative for Xbox, and we’ll be working on putting even more of our games into Game Pass than ever before. Beyond that? Stay tuned, we’re just getting started together.”

Xbox boss Phil Spencer released a statement as well in which he confirmed more Bethesda games are coming to Game Pass this week, though he did not name them outright.

Spencer also said it is “vitally important” for Bethesda to continue to make games “the way it always has,” which suggests Microsoft is not going to try to mix things up too much.

“We look forward to empowering Bethesda’s creative teams to reach even more players around the world, helping make future Bethesda titles the biggest and most popular games in their history” he said. “Xbox and Bethesda have long shared a common vision for the future of gaming. Both as fans and as creators, Bethesda understands the potential of Xbox Game Pass.”

With the buyout, Microsoft now owns a number of additional studios, including Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios.

“Now that everything is official, we can begin working together to deliver more great games to everyone,” Spencer said. “At every step building toward this moment, I’ve been inspired and motivated by the creativity, insight, and community-first approach of the talented people at Bethesda. Our goal is to give these teams the best foundation for doing their greatest work and to learn from them as we continue to build Xbox into an inclusive platform for all players.”

You can read the full statements from Pete Hines and Phil Spencer below.

A big unknown continues to be exclusivity questions that fans have about Bethesda’s future games. People want to do know if high-profile upcoming Bethesda games like The Elder Scrolls VI, Indiana Jones, and Starfield will come to PlayStation consoles.

Spencer said in his statement that Microsoft will of course prioritize Xbox and PC over rival platforms, and he teased that “some new titles” will be exclusive to Xbox and PC.

“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” he said.

Spencer did not, however, provide any further details on what these exclusive games might be. We do know that one of Bethesda’s games, Deathloop, will still release on PlayStation as a timed exclusive.

Pete Hines Full Statement

“First, let me say that we’re not making any landmark announcements or changes right now. As we’ve all shared, the expectation is that Bethesda Softworks and our studios will continue as we have in the past, just with more support and resources than we’ve ever had before. Obviously, Game Pass has been an important initiative for Xbox, and we’ll be working on putting even more of our games into Game Pass than ever before. Beyond that? Stay tuned, we’re just getting started together.

Second, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that it is a bittersweet day given that our founder, Robert Altman, passed away last month. Among his many admirable qualities was the incredible spirit of family and loyalty that he shared with all of us. I will be forever grateful for his efforts to find the perfect place for ZeniMax, Bethesda, and our studios and employees to continue their excellent work going forward.I’d also like to thank Phil Spencer and all the folks at Xbox and Microsoft who have been such a pleasure to work with as we prepare for this new chapter. The collaboration, mutual respect, and support they’ve shown to us during this process has been extraordinary.

I’m pleased to continue the great relationships we’ve built together over the past few decades, first as partners and now as colleagues in the same company. And of course, I want to say thanks to all of you for your support. It is not something we ever take lightly or for granted. This year marks 35 years since the original creation of Bethesda Softworks. Reaching a milestone like that, while also going through a historic occasion like this acquisition, puts in perspective just how far we’ve come in that time. A journey that wouldn’t be worth it without all of you to share it with.”

Phil Spencer Full Statement

This is an exciting day for Xbox. Today we officially complete the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks. It’s an honor to welcome the eight incredibly talented development studios – Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios–and their passionate global communities to the Xbox family. Now that everything is official, we can begin working together to deliver more great games to everyone. At every step building toward this moment, I’ve been inspired and motivated by the creativity, insight, and community-first approach of the talented people at Bethesda. Our goal is to give these teams the best foundation for doing their greatest work and to learn from them as we continue to build Xbox into an inclusive platform for all players.

This is the next step in building an industry-leading first party studios team, a commitment we have to our Xbox community. With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players.

As we shared previously, it’s vitally important that Bethesda continues making games the way it always has. We look forward to empowering Bethesda’s creative teams to reach even more players around the world, helping make future Bethesda titles the biggest and most popular games in their history. Xbox and Bethesda have long shared a common vision for the future of gaming. Both as fans and as creators, Bethesda understands the potential of Xbox Game Pass.

We would also like to honor the life and memory of my close friend Robert A. Altman, founder of ZeniMax Media. Robert believed deeply in the power of gaming and we are privileged to be able to continue his work by joining forces with the teams he built and led for many years. I will miss the opportunity to work directly with him on the future of our combined teams but I know that his spirit will live on in the shared work we do and motivate us to make this partnership all he envisioned.

Thank you to all our players for joining us on this incredible journey and to the millions of Bethesda fans around the world. Now that we’re one team, we can start working together on the future ahead. We will have more to share about what’s next for our teams later this year. In the meantime, to properly celebrate this special moment, we are bringing additional Bethesda games into Xbox Game Pass later this week. Stay tuned for more details!”

The Division 2 Update 12.3 Now Live, Introduces Seasonal Reruns

Ubisoft has issued a new update for The Division 2 which begins rerunning content from previous seasons that you may have missed. The 12.3 patch is now live and introduces Season 5 which is actually a rerun of Season 1’s Shadow Tide.

The maintenance period ended this morning, March 9, and fixes some PC crash issues as well. But the main feature of the patch notes is the start of seasonal re-runs, which Ubisoft announced last week. This was announced alongside the development of new content including an entirely new mode, so the seasonal reruns appear to be giving the community something to do in the meantime.

“While we’re hard at work on the next content update, we will re-run previous seasons released during Year 2,” the company stated. “In other words, the next season (Season 5) will be a re-run of Season 1, giving you the chance to collect rewards and collectibles that you might have missed out on.” It also noted this means Leagues and Global Events will reset.

Shadow Tide consisted of a Jupiter Manhunt, Urban Jungle apparel event, and a handful of leagues and global events. It also introduced the rewards track. The update is 3.6 GB on PC, 4.6 GB on Xbox, and 3.8 GB on PlayStation.

The Division 2 Patch 12.3 Notes:

  • Beginning of seasonal re-runs, starting with Season 5 (Season 1: Shadow Tide).
  • Fixes to crash to desktop issues.

Why Venture Capitalists Are Betting On Epic Games

High-profile entertainment-industry investors Eric Garland and Evan Richter have just announced a $75 million fund for media, entertainment, and games, with Epic Games as one of the select companies Smash Ventures has chosen to invest in. In an interview with GamesBeat, the duo has explained what’s so different about Epic Games, and why they’re choosing to invest in it.

The pair’s relationship with Epic Games goes back six or seven years when both were working in venture investments for Disney. A conversation with Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull led to Garland and Richter looking for companies that developed game engines, which led them to Epic. “We put out just a handful of cold calls,” Garland said. “One of them was a totally cold email. I think we guessed Tim Sweeney’s email address. He responded.”

The pair initially invested in Epic on Disney’s behalf, but later reconnected with Sweeney while putting their own company Smash Ventures together. “We connected with Tim, caught up, and he said, ‘I’m putting a round together. Would you like to participate?’ It was a privilege to get to do that,” Richter explained. “That was our first investment, and there have been many since then, but it started all at that time.”

Thanks to these pre-existing relationships, Smash Ventures was able to be a “big part” of the $1.25 billion funding Epic raised in 2018. As for why Epic is such an attractive investment, Garland and Richter say it’s all about games evolving from single entertainment titles to all-encompassing platforms.

“Eric and I share a thesis around gaming, which is that gaming is the next social network,” Richter explained. “Gaming companies have moved from a studio-driven model to a platform model. That shift has occurred over the last several years. A lot of investors may have been slow to that: ‘Game companies are media businesses. They’re hit-driven. They’re hard to figure out.’ All the while people like Tim Sweeney and the guys at Roblox have recognized that these are closer to true platforms.”

While Smash Ventures is investing in a variety of businesses outside entertainment, its definitely looking to do more in the gaming space. The firm is looking to keep its investments focused on a small number of companies, but it’s likely we’ll see more game-related companies among their ranks before long.

Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit Is Getting A Stage Musical

We were all thinking it as we watched Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit last year. “There isn’t enough singing in this show about chess and drugs.” Worry no longer, because entertainment company Level Forward has acquired rights to bring the captivating chess tale to the stage, according to The Guardian.

Level Forward announced Monday that it has acquired the rights to produce the 1983 novel as a stage musical. The company is also responsible for turning Alanis Morrissette’s Jagged Little Pill into a musical, a new production of Oklahoma, and a variety of documentaries.

“It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen’s Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater,” said CEO Adrienne Becker, and producer Julia Dunetz in an official statement. “Audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story’s inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon’s journey and ultimate triumph.”

Level Forward has not yet announced where–or when, considering the ongoing pandemic–it will produce the show, but The Guardian points to Broadway as the likely destination.

The series adaptation of The Queen’s Gambit hit Netflix last fall and quickly became one of the service’s most-watched shows, and helped grab star Anya Taylor-Joy both Golden Globe and Critics Choice awards. The show was also just nominated for an award from the Directors Guild of America. The Queen’s Gambit will be, to our knowledge, the second chess-themed musical. The first was the aptly-named 1986 musical Chess.

WandaVision Grabs Directors Guild Of America Award Nomination

WandaVision has just ended, but already has its first award nomination thanks to the Directors Guild of America, which also offered up noms for Ted Lasso, the Mandalorian, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and more.

Other names in the category include Susanne Bier for The Undoing, Thomas Kail for Hamilton, Scott Frank for The Queen’s Gambit, and Lynn Shelton for the Little Fires Everywhere episode, “Find a Way.”

In the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series, Jon Favreau is nominated for the Mandalorian’s “Chapter 9: The Marshal,” the first of two nominations for Favreau. Vince Gillian is up for Better Call Saul‘s “Bagman,” Jason Bateman for the Ozark episode “Wartime,” Lesli Linka Glatter for Homeland’s “Prisoners of War,” and Julie Anne Robinson for “Diamond of the First Water” from Bridgerton.

For the Comedy Series category, both Ted Lasso and Curb your Enthusiasm grabbed two nominations. Zach Braff is nominated for Ted Lasso’s “Biscuits,” followed by MJ Delaney for Ted Lasso’s “The Hope that Kills You.” Susanna Fogel is nominated for The Flight Attendant’s “In Case of Emergency,” Erin O’Malley for Curb Your Enthusiasm’s “The Surprise Party,” and Jeff Schaffer for Curb Your Enthusiasm’s “The Spite Store.”

Other categories include one for regularly-scheduled Variety/Talk-style shows like the Daily Show and Last Week Tonight, Specials like The Late Night with Stephen Colbert’s “Stephen Colbert’s Election Night 2020: Democracy’s Last Stand: Building Back America Great Again Better 2020, reality programs like Jon Favreau’s The Chef Show, and more. The whole list is available on the Directors Guild website. The awardsceremony will be held virtually on April 10.
