Watch Dogs Legion Online Co-Op Delayed on PC

Watch Dogs Legion’s online co-op mode was set to launch on all platforms on March 9, 2021, but PC players will have to wait a bit longer due to a game crashing issue that has caused a new delay.

Ubisoft shared the news on Twitter, saying that the PC version of this new mode can cause the game to crash for players with certain GPUs. The team is working on the fix “as quickly as possible” and will communicate the new date as soon as it can.

While online co-op will still launch for PlayStation, Xbox, and Stadia on March 9, the raid-like Tactical Operations will now be released on March 23, 2021.

Additionally, PS5 and PS4 players will have to deal with “limited in-game text chat” until March 23.

We recently got to preview Watch Dogs Legion’s online co-op modes, and said “The co-op missions remind me a lot of Assassin’s Creed Unity’s approach to friendly multiplayer, in that they are effectively identical to the fare you find in the main campaign, just redesigned with more participants in mind.”

In our Watch Dogs Legion review, we said its “bold use of roguelike mechanics in an open-world action game pays off in interesting ways, making this visit to near-future London feel more varied than the previous two games.”

Will GTA Online Get Cross-Play?

Grand Theft Auto Online has been hugely popular for Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two, but the game is missing one feature that has found its way into a lot of other multiplayer games: cross-play. If you’re on Xbox One, you can only play with other Xbox One players, and the same goes for those on PC and PS4. But will GTA Online get cross-play, and if not, what reasons could be holding it back?

Why doesn’t GTA Online have cross-play?

As we mentioned, as of now, GTA Online does not feature cross-play. Unlike games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite, you can’t play with someone on another platform. Initially, this likely had to do with what was standard when the game launched in late 2013. Cross-play was basically unheard of, with platforms locked down. That didn’t really change until 2018, which was well after GTA Online had come to current-gen systems and PC.

Will GTA Online ever get cross-play?

Rockstar has not announced this feature yet, but Grand Theft Auto 5 will be coming to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year. If there were ever a time to add this feature–even if only for those two versions of the game–it would be during that development process.

One encouraging bit of news regarding this came from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who stressed that his company doesn’t just release simple ports, but instead tries to add something truly unique or meaningful when its games release on new platforms. Something like cross-play would certainly fit the bill, especially since it’s now offering a standalone version of GTA Online that doesn’t require Grand Theft Auto 5.

It’s Time To Say Goodbye To Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 had a massive impact on the Call Of Duty formula by delivering a mil-sim-inspired game. Large maps, a thoughtful attachment system, and the inclusion of vehicles attracted lapsed Battlefield players and gamers who didn’t traditionally enjoy the arcade feel of Call Of Duty. Modern Warfare fans were upset when Cold War took over the season pass, in-game store, and added over 30 Cold War guns into Warzone. Now with Cold War Season 2, Treyarch is taking the series, including Warzone, in a different direction, and it involves a lot of zombies.

In this video we talk about how recent unconfirmed reports say that the Warzone map introduced by Modern Warfare, Verdansk, will finally get nuked sometime in Season 2 to bring it in line with Black Ops Cold War. To make matters even tougher for some Modern Warfare players, the game may no longer fit on a base PS4’s 500 gig hard drive with Cold War also installed. In this video, we talk over the pros and cons of this final switch and check in on how you’re feeling about it.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is now in Season 2 and available on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Nintendo President Wants To Avoid “Nosedive” With Switch, Needs To Keep It Fresh

The Nintendo Switch is one of the company’s biggest successes ever, outselling all of its other home consoles with the exception of the Wii. Despite these big numbers, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa isn’t resting, and he said he wants to avoid the big dropoff that most of Nintendo’s systems see once they’ve been out for a few years.

Speaking to Nikkei Business (and translated by Kotaku), Furukawa explained that with the exception of the Switch, Nintendo has seen its business take a “nosedive” when consoles have hit their midlife point. Since the Switch is now four years old, it’s seemingly at least at its midlife point, but sales continue to be strong for both games and the hardware.

“Because of this, I myself as well as those within the company do not at all think the current state of affairs will keep going and going,” he added.

That’s likely why we haven’t seen the last Switch hardware revision, either. Had the system not succeeded, like with the Wii U, it would have made sense for Nintendo to be preparing for the Switch’s outright successor to launch already. That isn’t the case, and we’ve heard reports of an upgraded Switch with an OLED screen and 4K docked output, instead.

What remains to be seen is if Nintendo’s desire to massively innovate will help it in the future. Given the huge appeal of the Switch as a hybrid device, it would be hard to go back to a Nintendo system that couldn’t be used as a handheld and a traditional console. Still, if there’s one thing Nintendo is good at, it’s giving us something we didn’t know we wanted until we had it.
