Netflix’s New Anime Godzilla Singular Point Gets Chaotic First Trailer

The first trailer for the upcoming anime series Godzilla Singular Point has been released. The show is set to hit Netflix in June 2021.

The Godzilla Singular Point trailer might be less than two minutes long, but it delivers a lot. The show focuses on two young scientists, Mei and Yun, who team up to fight a new kaiju threat that is emerging from the earth. There’s mecha action, exploding buildings, dinosaurs, tentacled beasts, and of course, Godzilla himself. It all looks hugely entertaining and superbly animated–check the trailer out below.

Godzilla Singular Point is produced by anime studios Bones (My Hero Academia) and Orange (Beastars), and directed by Atsushi Takahashi (Blue Exorcist: The Movie). It’s a 13-episode series that premiered on Japanese Netflix last month. It doesn’t have a confirmed US release date yet, but will be here in June.

The show will join a variety of other animated Godzilla titles that are available on Netflix, which include Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, and Godzilla: The Planet Eater. Kaiju fans can also expect a second season of the animated Netflix series Pacific Rim: The Black, which was announced earlier this month.

Final Fantasy XIV Patch 5.5 Is Live With New Nier Automata Raid

The first part of Final Fantasy XIV‘s Patch 5.5 went live on April 13. Originally announced on February 6, the new update is titled Death Unto Dawn. It will set the stage for the next expansion, Endwalker–the story that will wrap up Hydaelyn and Zodiark’s long running arc.

The second part of Patch 5.5 will release at the end of May, after the digital FFXIV Fan Fest. The following details delve into Patch 5.5, so spoilers beware for those not caught up with the storyline or those that want to go into the new content blind.

In the main storyline, it’s clear Eorzea is facing (yet another) existential threat. In the trailer, all of the Head of States are gathered in what looks like a very important meeting. The narration too implies the need for everybody to fight against a common enemy or else be annihilated. The optional side quest Sorrow of Werlyt will get its conclusion in Patch 5.5 as well.

Players can also expect a new dungeon called Paglth’an and a new trial called Cloud Deck. From the teaser photos, Paglth’an looks set in a conflict-ridden area with an ominous tower of light beaming up into the sky. A new Unreal trial, The Whorleater, features a much harder battle against the primal Leviathan. The Navel Unreal trial is now unavailable.

Patch 5.5 also includes the third part of the 24-player Nier Automata crossover alliance raid series called Tower at Paradigm’s Breach. From the teaser trailer, it looks like players get to face off against the Red Girls. It’s unknown if this is the final Nier Automata-themed raid in FFXIV.

In battle system changes, adjustments were made to Marauder/Warrior, Dark Knight, Monk, Dragoon, and Scholar jobs. Most of these are relatively minor and are slight adjustments to the potency of certain abilities. The biggest change was probably the Monk’s Riddle of Earth ability lasting for 10 seconds instead of six seconds.

And of course, since the true endgame of FFXIV is glamour and housing, we have to mention new stuff in both categories. Luxury traders Edelina in Mor Dhona and Tabeth in Eulmore are selling rare and fancy items. In housing, items from the FFXIV Furnishing design competition are available, including a very nice glowing acorn ceiling lamp.

FFXIV’s PS5 open beta also began today. The PS5 free trial and the PS5 Upgrade Edition can both be downloaded from the PlayStation Store now.

A New Fast & Furious 9 Trailer Will Drop Wednesday

The latest installment in the Fast & Furious Saga is due to get a new trailer on April 14, according to a string of tweets from the movie’s official Twitter account. The tweets, a series of seconds-long videos showcasing each individual cast member posing next to a sick ride, are far from action-packed, but at least confirm that the movie is indeed still coming out on June 25.

Fast & Furious 9, alternatively known as F9, is an upcoming action movie directed by Justin Lin (True Detective, Community). Lin, who directed previous entries in the franchise like Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift and Fast & Furious 6, has returned as co-writer on F9 alongside Daniel Casey (10 Cloverfield Lane). Check out the recent Twitter thread below for a small taste of what’s ahead.

Noticeably absent from the gang posturing are Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham–who have been spun off into their own franchise–but Lin has drafted in their place another wrestler-turned-actor in John Cena. Additionally, Sung Kang is returning as Han–a beloved character who died in Tokyo Drift, even though it actually takes place after the sixth movie in the series. Also returning are Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Helen Mirren as Magdalene Shaw, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Ludacris as Tej Parker, and many more. Also, Jordana Brewster returns to the series as Mia after sitting out The Fate of the Furious. Vin Diesel’s 10-year-old son, Vincent Sinclair, also joins the cast in this entry.

F9: The Fast Saga is currently scheduled to be in theaters on June 25. To tide you over in the meantime, you can also check out the movie’s recent Super Bowl trailer.

Mark Hamill To Star In Movie About Bert Kreischer’s Viral “The Machine” Story

Comedian Bert Kreischer’s viral story about getting kidnapped by Russian gangsters is getting turned into a movie, with Star Wars actor Mark Hamill on board to star in it.

Hamill and Kreischer himself will appear in the movie, which comes from Godzilla studio Legendary. It’s based on Kreischer’s viral story about his time studying abroad in Russia when he had a run-in with the Russia mob and helped them rob a train.

Hamill will play Kreischer’s father. It’s not a re-telling of the events per se, but instead, the events of the story will catch up with Kreischer 20 years later. Kreischer and his father (Hamill) are now being pursued by the people that he wronged two decades ago.

THR said the movie is being described as “The Hangover meets Midnight Run.” Filming is scheduled to take place in Serbia. You can watch Kreischer tell his original The Machine story in the video below.

Hamill and Kreischer also released silly videos hyping up the movie. It appears they are getting started right away, as Kreischer and Hamill are seen getting on a private jet headed for Serbia.

Kreischer was known for his party animal lifestyle at Florida State University in the late ’90s, and his experiences were documented in a wild 1997 Rolling Stone story, which later become the movie Van Wilder. Kreischer wasn’t involved, however.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Bans Reach 475,000 As Publisher Outlines Anti-Cheating Measures

Alongside banning another 30,000 cheaters from Call of Duty: Warzone, bringing the total number of permabans up to 475,000, publisher Activision has outlined some steps it’s taking to further combat cheaters across the Call of Duty series like issuing hardware bans to repeat or serial offenders.

This is Warzone’s “seventh high-volume set of bans since February,” Activision said. In a blog post, the publisher discussed what its security and enforcement teams are doing, such as issuing permabans to repeat or serial offenders and using two-factor authentication to put even more obstacles in the way of cheaters.

Increased Call of Duty: Warzone Anti-Cheat Efforts

  • Utilizing 2-factor authentication to make it harder to access new accounts simply to cheat.
  • Ramping-up additional resources to support our security and enforcement teams.
  • Increased frequency of high-volume banwaves in addition to our daily banning of repeat offending accounts.
  • Improving regular communications and updates.

Other efforts to combat cheating in Call of Duty include issuing daily bans (seven days a week) to individual offenses and repeat offenders, as well as permanently banning the hardware of repeat or serial offenders. Activision said both facets are “integral” and “important” to the team’s efforts to quell rampant cheating.

On top of this, Activision is targeting markets where Warzone players share cheats and resell accounts. The publisher recently banned some 45,000 “fraudulent, black market accounts used by repeat offenders.”

Activision said updates on how cheaters will be dealt with will continue as usual.

This all comes as Activision and co-developers Raven Software and Treyarch Studios have issued various bans across the Call of Duty series since the start of the year. Recently, Activision published a report on a dropper hackers used to gain access to sensitive user data and mine cryptocurrency from victims.

Gord Is A New Dark Fantasy Survival RPG With City-Sim Gameplay

Coming from new developer Covenant, Gord is a dark fantasy RPG that centers around a growing village and the many threats they face while trying to survive. First teased on April 8 via the game’s official Twitter page, we now have the first gameplay elements and plot for the upcoming survival-sim and city-builder, which is coming from Stan Just, a former developer from CD Projekt Red and 11-Bit Studios.

The main story of Gord follows The Tribe of the Dawn’s struggles and growth while surviving a fantasy world inspired by Slovic folklore. Throughout the game, you will decide how you want your village to evolve, how best to defend your community from threats, and how to use your limited resources to keep your town prosperous for the future.

In addition to city-builder gameplay, allowing you to customize and outfit your village as you see fit, the game also includes survival RPG mechanics, where you take a member of your community out into the wild to forage for supplies and food. While exploring, they may encounter monsters, some minor and others rare and mysterious, to hunt–allowing them to collect more materials to bring back to the village.

However, given the grim circumstances the town faces, there’s the risk of residual trauma to the community. Even explorers who have a successful trip out into the world can cause trauma to a mental state. Along with managing your community’s health and morale, you’ll also need to ensure their psychological state is in a stable position. Issues like hunger, depression, and living with constant illnesses can slowly chip away at your community, making your village even more vulnerable.

According to developer Covenant in a press release, Gord also features procedurally generated content in quests and randomized events to ensure that different runs won’t be similar to others. As you explore more of the world and build up your community, you will also expand your understanding of the land around the village, giving you more lore and information about the land’s history.

Gord looks to be an exciting approach to the dark fantasy RPG. Instead of focusing on the growth of one singular hero in a hostile world, Gord puts its sights on developing a larger community struggling to survive. This conceit could make for a potentially exciting game to invest in and see how long you can keep your community afloat. Gord will launch on PC sometime in 2022.

Attack The Block Director Joe Cornish Is Adapting Mark Millar’s Starlight

Attack the Block director Joe Cornish will write and direct a movie version of the sci-fi comic book Starlight. The project is latest adaptation of a comic written by Mark Millar.

As reported by Deadline, Cornish will make Starlight movie for 20th Century Films, and it will be produced by Genre Films, the production company set up by X-Men writer Simon Kinberg. As well as Attack the Block, Cornish is also known for the 2019 fantasy movie The Kid Who Would be King and co-writing Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin with Edgar Wright.

Starlight was a six-issue limited series written by Millar and illustrated by Goran Parlov and published by Image in 2014. It focuses on a retired space adventurer who returns to his heroic old life when he is summoned by a mysterious call from a distant planet.

Starlight is one of several Millar adaptations in the works. In 2018, Netflix bought his Millarworld entertainment company, and the first results of this deal–the superhero adventure Jupiter’s Legacy–arrives next month. Other titles in development include Empress, Huck, and Sharkey the Bounty Hunter.

In related news, Cornish recently revealed that a sequel to Attack the Block was in development. He stated that he had been talking to star John Boyega about story ideas for a follow-up to their 2011 sci-fi horror favorite.
