Microsoft Buys AI Company Nuance In $19.7 Billion Deal, Its Second-Biggest Ever After LinkedIn

Microsoft has made yet another multi-billion dollar acquisition. Just a month after Microsoft’s $7.5 billion deal to buy ZeniMax closed, the technology giant has now purchased the AI company Nuance at a price of $56 per share, which works out to $19.7 billion. Microsoft clearly sees a lot of value in Nuance, as it paid a 23% premium on the price of Nuance’s shares. The acquisition was an all-cash deal that is expected to close this year.

Nuance CEO Mark Benjamin will remain CEO, and he will report to Microsoft cloud and AI boss Scott Guthrie going forward.

Microsoft has been working with Nuance since 2019, when it started using Nuance’s technology for healthcare. “By augmenting the Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare with Nuance’s solutions, as well as the benefit of Nuance’s expertise and relationships with EHR systems providers, Microsoft will be better able to empower healthcare providers through the power of ambient clinical intelligence and other Microsoft cloud services,” Microsoft said.

In purchasing Nuance, Microsoft grows its footprint in the healthcare space to almost $500 billion, the company said.

Outside of healthcare, Nuance’s AI and “customer engagement solutions” cover things like virtual assistants, interactive voice response technology, and digital and biometric software across multiple industries.

At $19.7 billion, Nuance represents one of Microsoft’s largest acquisitions ever. It’s second only to the $26.2 billion that Microsoft paid to acquire LinkedIn back in 2016.

Disco Elysium: The Final Cut Patch In Development For PlayStation Systems

A number of tweaks and fixes are on the way to Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, which arrived on PlayStation 4 and 5 with several bugs last month. An upcoming patch is being worked on, details of which were shared by developer ZA/UM’s freelance ad agent Idiot Doom Spiral. That isn’t a typo, as the patch post remained in character while it detailed the incoming fixes.

“Maybe blame it on the Doomed Commercial Area, birthplace of doomed dreams, resting place for every venture. Blame it on an incursion of the apocalypse in a localized space, or whatever Tequila Sunset hits you with. Blame it on a call to Abigail,” Spiral explained. “Or just blame it on us. Because it is our fault, that’s true. We’re all just human beings dreaming big, and not always making those dreams come true like we hope. But we’re going to try anyway, and try again, until we get it right. And we will.”

Once Patch 1.3 arrives, you can expect the following tweaks and improvements:

  • Tons of voice-over fixes
  • Improved Kim pathfinding
  • Fixed controller interaction during Seafort Dream
  • Fixed controller interaction with The Pigs
  • Fixed Sandcastle interaction
  • Fixed car interaction
  • Fixed instances where the tide never receded near the swings
  • Fixes pawnshop healing interaction
  • Fixed Thought Cabinet freezes
  • Fixed save game bugs
  • Fixes for cutscene locks and edge-case interactions with controllers
  • And a little bit this and that, general house cleaning after stormy development

In case you missed out on the 2019 hit game which starred an amnesiac alcoholic detective trying to solve a strange murder, the Final Cut of Disco Elysium is the definitive version of the RPG that makes numerous improvements such as increased frame rates, new streamer-friendly features, and more than a million fully-voiced words in total.

Four new quests that flesh out the experience, known as “political vision quests,” adds even more longevity to Disco Elysium provided that you know how to meet the right prerequisites for this extra content.

Days Gone 2 Was Pitched With a Co-Op Mode and Shared Universe

Jeff Ross, the former game director of Days Gone, has revealed that the pitch for Days Gone 2 featured plans for a shared universe and cooperative play component.

Talking to God of War creator David Jaffe as part of a livestream on Jaffe’s YouTube channel, Ross discussed topics that arose in the wake of Bloomberg’s recent report about an unsuccessful Days Gone 2 pitch from developer Bend Studio. While Ross was unable to confirm if Days Gone 2 was indeed rejected due to a non-disclosure agreement, he did reveal a few details about the pitch he submitted to Sony for the sequel.

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/04/09/the-last-of-us-remake-in-development-days-gone-2-rejected”]

“We wanted co-op from the beginning [in Days Gone 1], but obviously you have to make concessions for what you’re not going to be able to do,” explained Ross during the conversation, as reported by VGC.

When asked by Jaffe if the ideas for a co-op mode would have been implemented in a sequel, Ross said: “It’s one of the things that we had in our pitch, yeah. It was the idea of a shared universe with co-op play.”

Explaining the vision for the co-op, Ross described it as: ”[taking] this world that you’ve built, and all these assets and systems, and repurpose them for some sort of similarly themed multiplayer version of this universe. So [it] would be with guys like Deacon trying to survive, building up a clubhouse or a crew. I think it would be fun to be in that world cooperatively and see what horde battles could be like.”

While Ross’ openness about an unannounced game does make it feel as if Days Gone 2 is probably not going to happen, Ross reinforced that he cannot confirm the game’s situation. “I don’t think it’s publicly confirmed what the status of [Days Gone 2] is. I don’t want to be the guy who’s the official source for whatever that is.”

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/04/25/days-gone-review”]

Ross himself no longer works at Bend Studio, but notes that his departure “had nothing to do with the status of the sequel or anything else that the studio was doing.”

While discussing the Bloomberg report, Ross also stated that it was “never the reality” that Bend had lost autonomy and had become a support studio for Naughty Dog. Instead, he insisted that the link between the two studios was a collaboration.

That same report also suggests that a remake of 2013’s The Last of Us is in development. If true, that could well be intended to launch on the back of HBO’s anticipated The Last of Us show, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Call Of Duty Mobile Season 3 With New Gun Teased With Cryptic Images

Activision has begun to tease the next season for Call of Duty: Mobile. Across a pair of tweets, the developer confirmed that a new pistol is coming to Call of Duty: Mobile in Season 3, while what looks like a new map is coming as well, based on the teaser.

CharlieIntel said the new pistol is the Renetti from Modern Warfare. The pistol is very powerful, as it can take down enemies with four body shots in Modern Warfare. It remains to be seen if it will be changed at all for CoD: Mobile, if it is indeed coming to the game.

As for the new map, you can check out the teaser image below and the flythrough video further down the page. It looks like a classic Call of Duty map, featuring interior and exterior lanes that can suit a number of different play styles.

Call of Duty: Mobile is currently in the midst of Season 2: Day of Reckoning, but based on these teasers, it appears Activision is going to mix things up and launch the new season relatively soon.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone are also currently in Season 2. The in-game timer suggests the season will end this month, and it could be a dramatic occasion for the game. The popular rumor is that Activision will blow up the map and re-launch the game with an ’80s theme based on Black Ops Cold War.

COD WW2 Could Give Battlefield 6 The Edge

Aaron Sampson and Richie Bracamonte are here to talk about the COD’s rumored return to World War II. This can be to the detriment of burnt-out Call of Duty fans, but could also lead to more interest in Battlefield 6. Rumored to take place in the 2030s and feature Battlefield 3-style multiplayer, die-hard Modern Warfare 2019 fans may have a place to call home in 2021. In the past few months, strange and seemingly dying support from Infinity Ward has left fans puzzled. New weapons like the RAAL Light machine gun and the CX-9 submachine gun have been halfway added into some game modes, and 3 new maps were quietly added in only to be removed days later.

Another leak has surfaced revolving a new Warzone experience. An unfinished trailer leaked that shows off an 80s version of Verdansk. Strangely, it appeared to feature some assets from Cold War: Prominently the Duga 2 array from the game’s optional final mission. Aaron discusses his theories on how we’re going to find ourselves in the 1980s. It definitely takes some suspension of disbelief and of course, time traveling zombies. But since nuclear weapons don’t cause time travel, there’s more to unpack than you might think.

Since zombies seem to be the glue holding the MW and Cold War together, Richie reflects on his fond memories of older zombies maps. As much as he cherishes them, he admits how much harder they were to survive. If you’re enjoying these chats about Call of Duty, speak up! Your comments can lead to more discussions about future COD topics and have a chance to be featured in a future episode!

Outriders Devs Are Working On Inventory Wipe Fix For Affected Players

Outriders encountered server issues in its first few days online and some of the attempts to correct the problem didn’t work initially. Now, another issue–inventory wipes–has been affecting some players, causing them to lose the gear they worked so hard to get. The development team is working to prevent this from happening and is also looking to restore the inventories for anyone who experienced a wipe.

In a series of posts on Twitter, the Outriders team said it had taken “additional preventative measures” on its servers to prevent future inventory wipes and that it’s seeing it happen less frequently. It also recommended force-closing your game and restarting it if you see something is missing, and said it’s looking to restore gear for anyone who lost it.

A Reddit thread provides more-detailed information on how gear will be restored. It will take place as a massive one-off restoration at a to-be-determined date, with valuable Epic and Legendary gear getting restored. Any gear you lost that was in a lower tier will probably not be restored, and the items might have slightly different stats.

“While we are trying our hardest to make things right, we unfortunately cannot make guarantees for the specifics of the above or the timeline of this, as we may run into technical difficulties that delay our work,” the development team added.

These setbacks certainly have, at times, limited players’ ability to enjoy the game, but Outriders has thus far received a positive response for its mix of looting and shooting that seems to understand what makes that formula successful. In GameSpot’s Outriders review, Phil Hornshaw praised its use of cover-shooting and fantasy-style powers along with its endgame activities.
