Rocket League Season 3 Is Now Live, Full Patch Notes Released

Rocket League’s Season 3 content is now live on all platforms, and it’s available as a server-side update without a download on your part. Season 3 features the new Rocket Pass, a new arena, new tournaments, and new challenges to complete. You can see the full patch notes now.

As part of the Season 3 Rocket Pass, the new Tyranno vehicle will be available. It makes use of the Dominus hitbox, based on the vehicle released as DLC several years ago. The new arena DFH Stadium (Circuit) is available across free play, online playlists, and private matches, as well. The season will also feature Nascar and F1 content.

Pro tiers have been adjusted in order to remove “uncertainty from in-game purchases,” according to Psyonix. This means consistent rewards for all players, and making those rewards visible before you unlock them.

The first challenges for Season 3 are live now, as have the competitive modes. Season 3 tournaments, including new rewards and titles, have been added, as well, and the scoreboard has been changed to make it easier to read.

Crysis Remastered Next-Gen Update Adds Ascension Level On Consoles For The First Time

Crysis Remastered has gotten an update that adds a previously missing stage to consoles for the first time. The Ascension mission, in which a player pilots a Vulture VTOL, has been added to the game on PS4 and PS5, among other bug fixes and improvements. The update also introduces support for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The Ascension mission was included in the original PC release of Crysis but was never brought to console releases. Crysis Remastered retained the absence when it was released for PlayStation and Xbox platforms last year, but this new update finally brings it to console players.

In addition, players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can play at up to 60fps with presets for Performance mode (1080p 60fps), Quality mode (up to 2160p 60fps), and Ray Tracing mode (up to 1440p 60fps). Those adjustments come alongside a wide variety of bug fixes across both sets of platforms. You can see the full patch notes with bug fixes below.

Crysis is known for pushing the limits of hardware, and actually did so as recently as last year when it was the first game to bring ray tracing to PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. Another version, without ray tracing and some other high-end graphical features, is available for the Nintendo Switch.

Skyrim Players Can Finally Pet Dogs Thanks To New PC Mod

Almost ten years after it launched, one modder has added a feature to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that fans have been asking for. PC players who have been eager to give their pooches optimistic affirmation and confirmation that they are indeed good boys, can download Pet The Dogs – Animations from Nexus mods.

“I couldn’t believe it’s the year 2021 of our Lord Talos and you still couldn’t pet dogs in Skyrim. Well, I say NO MORE,” mod creator Jayserpa wrote. Once installed, the mod can be used to deliver a trio of different positive pats depending on the dog’s position. Standing, sitting, or lying down will result in one of three actions being played, but as Jayserpa noted, these aren’t perfect animations.

The mod works best when used in third-person mode, and players will need to make certain that they’re not holding a weapon or a prepared spell before moving in for precision pats. That’s Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus developer MachineGames’ job, as traumatized players will tell you.

Giving attention to a dog that clearly deserves praise has become one of the more mandatory features of any game that features faithful canine partners. Marvel’s Avengers recently added an option to pet Lucky the Pizza Dog in its new Hawkeye DLC, Ghost of Tsushima has no shortage of foxes–which are technically wild dogs with a terrific laugh–to pat on the head, and Monster Hunter Rise has a total of four different petting animations for canine comrades.

If you’re curious to see more games that have this feature, it’s worth following Can You Pet the Dog? on Twitter to stay updated.

PGA Tour 2K21 DLC Adds New Gear From Puma And TravisMathew

2K Sports has updated PGA Tour 2K21 to introduce more apparel that players can unlock or purchase to customize their player. Available in the game now is new gear from TravisMathew and Puma Golf, two big names in golf.

The TravisMathew collection has three polo shirts, three hats, and three shoes, and this represents the clothing brand’s first time partnering with 2K. As for Puma Golf, the company is bringing an “oversized hat” and a new shoe to PGA Tour 2K21. You can see some of the new gear in the video below.

This new content can be unlocked with virtual currency, which can be earned through gameplay or purchased outright with real money.

If you’re just getting into PGA Tour 2K21, now is a good time, as the game is discounted significantly to just $19.79 on console and PC. The discount is likely connected to how the Masters tournament is going on in the real world this week. It is one of the biggest and most prominent PGA Tour events all year, and golf games are historically discounted around this time to piggyback on the elevated interest in the sport.

In other news, 2K Sports has signed a deal with Tiger Woods that will see the legendary golfer–who is currently rehabbing from a horrible car crash–become a consultant on the next installment in the series. Meanwhile, EA Sports just announced it’s reviving its PGA Tour series, while the PGA Tour’s Bubba Watson has partnered with Golf Clash for a new event.

Kanye West Documentary Coming To Netflix This Year, Report Says

A Kanye West documentary is in the works, and it just recently sold to Netflix for a huge price tag, according to Billboard. The documentary is planned as a series, and it is said to feature “over two decades” of footage regarding West’s life, including home videos.

Separately, Variety reported that the price tag that Billboard reported for the series–$30 million–is “not an accurate figure,” though the site didn’t say if it was too high or too low.

Whatever the case, the documentary series is said to reveal brand-new videos that cover topics like the death of West’s mother, his career in music, and what really happened with his run for president in 2020.

The series doesn’t have an official title yet, but we know it’s made by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah. They directed West’s music video for “Jesus Walks (Version 3)” and “Through the Wire.” The pair have also directed an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary and also music videos for the rapper Lupe Fiasco.

Billboard reported that the documentary will be released this year. A spokesperson for Netflix declined to comment.

Netflix has continued to invest in documentaries about famous musicians. The streaming company has the Taylor Swift documentary Miss Americana, the Blackpink documentary Light up the Sky, and the Shawn Mendes movie In Wonder.

Will.i.am Launches Smart Mask That Looks Like It’s From A Cyberpunk Anime

Rapper and entrepreneur Will.i.am has teamed with Honeywell, the California-based multinational conglomerate that manufactures the pandemic-coveted N95 face masks, to roll out the even more coveted Xupermask–a “game-changing, high-concept face technology designed to help you meet face mask guidelines without compromising style.” In non-press release language, Xupermask (pronounced “supermask”) is a freaky weird cool cyberpunk-looking face mask with HEPA filters, dual 3-speed fans, Bluetooth connectivity, LED day glow lights for nighttime, noise-canceling headphones, earbud docking system, and more with a 7-hour battery. But because seeing this darn thing is likely a whole lot more impressive than reading about it, check out this ad recently posted online showing it off.

The mask will sell for $299 in two sizes–small/medium or medium/large–and will start shipping in the United States on April 8. Orders can be placed at xupermask.com, and orders are accepted within the US, Canada, UK, and EU.

Will.i.am has been a fantastic pitchman for the device. He told The New York Times that, “We are living in sci-fi times… [the pandemic] is straight out of a friggin’ movie. But we are wearing masks from yesterday’s movie. So I wanted to make a mask to fit the era that we’re in.” Speaking with USA Today, he struck a more pragmatic tone: “What I saw out there in the world was people had loose-fitted masks, and they had earbuds… When they got phone calls, they took the mask off and the earbuds fell on the floor, then the mask fell on the floor, and then the whole point was pointless because everything got dirty.” The Xupermask will also supposedly prevent glasses fogging up when wearing a mask, or having your voice muffled while on a call.

Introducing a premium smart mask as vaccines are starting to roll out is also a bit of a gamble. However, the rapper mentioned in multiple interviews that he’s betting masks aren’t going away anytime soon, telling The New York Times that “SARS happened in Japan and Southeast Asia, and they got over it, and they still wear masks.”

Razer has also recently announced that it’s making a similar bet with a high-tech mask of its own.

Microsoft Is Cooling Servers By Pouring Boiling Liquid Over Them, Here’s How It Works

Microsoft is taking a new approach to keeping some of its servers cool. The company shared in a blog post that it’s dunking servers in boiling liquid to keep them from overheating.

The liquid inside the tanks at Microsoft’s datecenter near the Columbia River in Washington is a type of fluid that is harmless to electronic equipment. It boils at 122 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 90 degrees lower than what’s required to boil water.

“The boiling effect, which is generated by the work the servers are doing, carries heat away from laboring computer processors. The low-temperature boil enables the servers to operate continuously at full power without risk of failure due to overheating,” Microsoft said.

The vapor that rises from the fluid rises and makes contact with a “cooled condenser” that in turn causes the vapor to become liquid. This liquid then rains down on the servers as part of a loop that keeps them cool.

According to principal hardware engineer Husam Alissa, Microsoft is the first cloud provider to operate a two-phase cooling system like this in a production environment.

Chips have become hotter and hotter over the years, requiring companies like Microsoft to come up with solutions to keep things cool.

“Air cooling is not enough,” Microsoft engineering boss Christian Belady said.

The full blog post goes much deeper into the nitty-gritty of how this all works, and it’s a good read for those interested in the finer details.

Servers are becoming more and more important at Microsoft and Xbox these days. Microsoft now operates a game-streaming service that continues to grow, while the company also signed a huge deal with the US Army for cloud technology.

Amazon Supports Biden’s Plan To Give All Americans Broadband Internet Access

Last week, the Biden administration outlined a massive infrastructure plan that includes $100 billion toward giving all Americans access to broadband internet. Some companies have protested this decision, but Amazon evidently isn’t one of them.

“We support the Biden Administration’s focus on making bold investments in American infrastructure. Both Democrats and Republicans have supported infrastructure in the past, and it’s the right time to work together to make this happen,” CEO Jeff Bezos, the richest person in the world, said in a statement. “We recognize the investment will require concessions from all sides–both on the specifics of what’s included as well as how it’s paid for (we’re supportive of a rise in the corporate tax rate).”

It makes sense that Amazon would be in favor of this plan, as its streaming services–both Amazon Prime Video and Amazon Luna–would benefit from all Americans having access, particularly if data caps were eliminated.

Big internet service providers like AT&T don’t see this plan as being in their interest, as it said most Americans don’t require fiber-level speeds. Amazon does actually have some sort of plan to become an ISP, though it’s unclear whether this factored into its support or not. It’s also worth pointing out that while Amazon favors an increase on the corporate tax rate, it has often had to pay nothing in federal income taxes. The proposed raise from Biden would bump the rate to 28% from the 21% it was lowered to under Donald Trump. Previously, it was as high as 35%.

It’s true that most content, including video streaming and general web surfing, will run perfectly fine at lower speeds. However, game downloads are only getting bigger high-quality video streaming requires faster speeds, and those living in areas without fast internet will be left in the cold as we head toward an increasingly digital industry.
