Sony Seemingly Confirms God Of War: Ragnarok As Game’s Official Name

After ads for the new God of War game teased “Ragnarok is coming,” God of War: Ragnarok became the easiest way to refer to the as-yet-untitled sequel. Now, it seems as though Sony has accidentally confirmed the subtitle is official through a logo included in an investor presentation.

The document from Sony’s IR Day 2021 covers Sony’s gaming division, going over some key data from the PS5 launch as well as some of the games both upcoming and already released for the PS5. On a slide showing the PS5’s post-launch lineup, the previously unofficial name “God of War: Ragnarok” appears as a logo, which was picked up by Fanbyte’s Imran Khan.

While it’s tempting to count this as a confirmation that the next God of War will in fact be called Ragnarok, Khan did a little more digging, finding that the logo used was actually a fan-designed graphic from artist Mike LeMieux.

While it’s still possible that the game is indeed called “God of War: Ragnarok,” which lead a Sony staffer to rip this image off Google for the presentation, it’s also very likely that the entire graphic was included by mistake.

While no official comment has been made by Sony or Santa Monica Studio, God of War director Cory Barlog tweeted a facepalm gif, presumably reacting to the Ragnarok situation.

Much about the upcoming sequel is still unknown, despite consistently ranking as one of 2021’s most anticipated games. It’s still unclear whether the game will release on PS4, or whether it will be available exclusively for the PS5.

Uncharted 4 May Be Coming To PC

Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4 may be on the way to PC, according to a recently published Sony investor document. This document is available on Sony’s official site, with the intent of giving investors a view on the state of the PlayStation brand, and it highlights many of the successes that the PS4 and PS5 have had in the last year.

Since 2020, PlayStation has removed the strict barrier between consoles and PC. First with the releases of both Death Stranding and Horizon: Zero Dawn on PC last year, Sony Bend’s Days Gone also made its way to PC just last month. As one of the PlayStation’s most iconic brands, Uncharted 4 is one of the highest selling games on the PlayStation 4, and it makes for a prime candidate to bring the game to a new audience on the PC. While this doesn’t outright confirm that Uncharted 4 is most definitely on the way, it does highlight that PC ports of PlayStation games will be something to expect more of in the future.

No Caption Provided

Along with details about more PC ports, the investor doc also detailed that the PlayStation 5 has been successful so far, with the standard edition of the console projected to break even by the end of June 2021. Other details of note in the doc include mention that despite the shortage of superconductors due to the massive change brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, engagement in the PS5 is still high even though consoles are in short supply. Another note is that the PS4 is a big earner for PlayStation, with most PSN sales coming from the previous-gen console.

With Sony’s May 2021 State of Play stream and E3 2021 coming up, we may hear more about what’s coming up for PC releases of PlayStation games. Regardless, the weeks ahead are looking to be an exciting period for all that’s to come with PlayStation 5. Along with our coverage of the May 2021 State of Play focusing on Horizon: Forbidden West, we can also expect a wave of reveals and announcements for the future of PlayStation in June.

GameSpot will be continuing coverage of what’s come with all things PlayStation, which will be a key fixture for our Play For All 2021 coverage. Be sure to check back with us for more info as it comes.

Days Of Play: PlayStation’s Massive Sale Live Now With Deals For PS5 And PS4

E3 season is upon us, and exciting new game announcements aren’t the only thing coming your way–a bunch of great deals are as well. And no, we’re not talking about Amazon Prime Day, though that’s coming up soon. Sony has kicked off Days of Play 2021, its annual sale on PlayStation games and accessories that takes place around E3 every summer. As usual, major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and GameStop are getting in on the sale as well, so you can pick up cheap PS4 and PS5 games whether you prefer to buy physically or digitally. Days of Play 2021 runs through June 9, so you have a couple of weeks to take advantage of all the discounts.

This year’s Days of Play sale is underwhelming in some ways–there are only a couple of accessory deals, and many of the older PS4 games can be played for free if you’re a PS5 owner with PlayStation Plus. Unsurprisingly, there are no console deals, not even a big PS5 restock. There’s no official PS Plus offer either (though you can snag a 12-month subscription for $40 over at eBay right now). However, Days of Play 2021 notably features some of the first discounts we’ve seen on PS5 launch titles like Demon’s Souls and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. And when it comes to the digital PlayStation Store sale, you have a huge amount of deals from third-party studios to take advantage of. Check out all the best deals and offers in this year’s Days of Play sale below, and catch up on everything to know about E3 2021 as publishers gear up for this summer’s digital showcases.

Days of Play Sales 2021

Every major retailer is getting in on Days of Play 2021 with a slew of steep discounts on PS4 and PS5 games, accessories, and more. You can shop PlayStation deals at specific stores below.

Days of Play: Best Game Deals

Days of Play’s game deals include a handful of PS5 game deals that are definitely worth checking out, as we may not see these games for much cheaper before Black Friday (though there’s a chance Amazon Prime Day will bring some surprise discounts). The PS5’s $70 first-party games and bundles–Demon’s Souls, MLB The Show 2021, Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Launch Edition, and The Nioh Collection–are down to $60 right now. That’s not a huge markdown, but it’s the cheapest we’ve seen some of these games since they launched.

Meanwhile, PS4’s older “PlayStation Hits” are back down to $10 each, as they usually are during Days of Play. Some of these are a harder sell than they’ve been in previous years due to the PS5’s PlayStation Plus Collection, a group of games that are free to play for PS5 owners with PS Plus. That includes God of War, Until Dawn, Uncharted 4, and Bloodborne, to name a few, so you may not want to shell out $10 for those even if you haven’t gotten your hands on a PS5 just yet (though there’s certainly some value in owning a game physically, and you may want to start playing right away). However, there are still some $10 games not included in the PS Plus Collection, such as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Gran Turismo Sport, Little Big Planet 3, and Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition (if you missed the recent giveaway).

Days of Play: Best PlayStation Store Deals

The PlayStation Store has kicked off a massive sale on PS4 and PS5 games for Days of Play, and you’ll find a much bigger offering here: Over 400 digital games, bundles, DLC, and in-game currency are on sale. The same first-party PlayStation games are on sale for the same price if you prefer to buy digitally, but you can also take advantage of discounts on games both new and old from third-party studios, including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla for $36, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for $36, and Red Dead Redemption 2 for $30. Keep in mind PS Plus members save an extra 10% on some games as well.

Days of Play: Best PSVR Deals

PlayStation Direct has exclusive deals on physical PSVR games right now, including Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, and Everybody’s Golf VR. Last year’s Iron Man VR is also down to $20 from $40. You can check out all the exclusive PSVR deals at PlayStation Direct.

AEW’s Cody Rhodes On Becoming The American Dream For Double Or Nothing

When Cody Rhodes steps into the ring to face Anthony Ogogo at AEW Double or Nothing on Sunday, May 30, he won’t be doing so as the American Nightmare. For one night only, Rhodes will drop the moniker he’s carefully cultivated since leaving WWE in 2016 to, instead, take on the nickname of his dad, the late great “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.

During a promo on AEW Dynamite on May 12, Rhodes let the world know he was borrowing his father’s identity for one night only at Double or Nothing. Now, in an interview with GameSpot’s pro wrestling podcast Wrestle Buddies, Rhodes has revealed what drove the decision–and pulled back the curtain a little on how he creates his promos in the first place.

“This is probably gonna sound not cool, because a lot of wrestlers–especially wrestlers from my dad’s era–will lie to you and say, ‘Oh, I just came up with that promo right there on the spot,’ which is bulls***,” the former TNT Champion admitted. “But whatever. I workshop my promos heavily for weeks on end. We have a full focus group for them, as crazy as that sounds. This is a data-based company, so I workshop everything I do. And because my promos have been held to a really high standard–people pick at them and find things in them and they put a microscope on them, which I love. With that in mind, when I was doing the promo I couldn’t come up with a finish.”

Without the ending to his promo, Rhodes was at a loss. To him, it would be the same thing as a match with a bad ending. “The match is the promo, the promo is the match,” he said. Then it came to him.

“When I was just thinking about what the story really is, Anthony [Ogogo] is living the American dream for real. All the wrestlers, like Bruno Sammartino, who I referenced in my interview, who have come over, have lived the American dream here,” he explained. “[With] what [that] stands for and [it being] Memorial Day weekend and fans coming back and just all that beautiful synergy and kismet, I ended up saying it once. ‘He won’t be wrestling the American Nightmare. He’ll be wrestling the American Dream.’ And when I said it, I just couldn’t move past it. I thought, ‘That’s it. That’s the ticket.'”

For Rhodes, though, it couldn’t just be a name to throw out there to sell the match. “If I need to do it for a gimmick, it’s the wrong thing,” he said. “But if it’s something that organically exists and comes up and it’s just that name–it’s more thematic and in my soul. Not to get all artsy and whatnot, but if it’s [in my heart] more than it’s [in my head], then it would be worth it and it would feel good. So it really just encapsulates everything that’s happening.”

Of course, taking on his dad’s identity for a night also appeals to Rhodes as a comic book fan. “I’m a big Batman reader and all the characters I love in Batman are all of the screwed up Robins,” he revealed. “Damien’s a killer. Dick is pretty much the only one with his head on his shoulders. Jason, obviously is Red Hood, Tim, etc. They’ve all got problems. And that’s what it’s like being a second-generation wrestler. We’re a bunch of broken toys and this is one of those times where it feels like putting on the cape and cowl. If anyone can do it and do it justice and do it with honor, it could be me. Maybe not full-time and maybe not long-term, but for one night I’ll be the Batman.”

Rhodes’ bout with Ogogo is only one of the high-profile matches at Double or Nothing. The show will also see The Pinnacle and the Inner Circle fighting it out in a Stadium Stampede Match, Kenny Omega defending the AEW Championship against both Orange Cassidy and Pac, and the Young Bucks putting their Tag Team Championships on the line against Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston, among a number of other bouts.

As for Rhodes, you’ll be able to hear his full Wrestle Buddies episode, which touches on the growth of AEW, going back on the road, becoming a father, and so much more, this Thursday.

Kraven the Hunter: Aaron Taylor-Johnson To Play Spider-Man Villain In Solo Film

The long-rumored film centering on Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter is happening, and Sony has chosen its hunter, GameSpot has learned. Aaron Taylor-Johnson will don the fuzzy vest of Marvel’s cunning hunter for a 2023 release date.

The film, titled Kraven the Hunter, is currently scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2023. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is no stranger to comic book films; he played Quicksilver in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the titular character in Kick-Ass and Kick-Ass 2. J.C. Chandor, best known for the Oscar Isaac film A Most Violent Year, will direct, while writing credits go to the duo of Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and to Richard Wenk. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.

We were holding out hope for Jimmy Kimmel to play the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Kraven the Hunter is the latest member of Spidey’s rogues gallery to get his own movie in the growing Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters, which includes Venom, the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and the much-delayed Morbius film starring Jared Leto. Kraven the Hunter, born Sergei Kravinoff, is a big game hunter who fixates on Spider-Man. The character’s most iconic story is 1987’s Kraven’s Last Hunt, in which he “killed” and buried Spider-Man and then impersonated the web-slinger for two weeks to prove that he was the superior hero. The story ended with Kraven leaving photographic proof of his time as Spider-Man for the police as a suicide note.

Kraven the Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on January 13, 2023, about a year after Morbius, which releases on January 28, 2022. Unless it gets delayed again.

Free Disgaea 6 Switch Demo Out Now, Lets You Transfer Save Data To Full Game

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny, the upcoming strategy JRPG, isn’t out for another month in the West, but the demo for the game is available on Nintendo Switch right now. Nintendo put up a blog post announcing the demo, stating that any progress made will transfer over to the full game when it releases.

The game follows Zed, a zombie that has risen up from the underworld and is on a quest to destroy a god threatening his way of life. Zed has the power of “super-reincarnation” which allows him to come back stronger every time he dies. Like the previous entries in the Disgaea series, Disgaea 6 will feature insane numbers, with the level cap being bumped up to level 99,999,999, with the ability to deal quadrillions of damage. The game also features a variety of systems for replaying the game, like the brand-new auto-repeat function, which will automatically replay the same level endlessly, for easy and simple grinding.

The game was announced for the West during New Game+ Expo in March, with Nippon Ichi Software president Shohei Niikkawa making the announcement in full costume. Anyone who purchases the game at launch will receive bonus characters Girl Laharl, Asagi, Adell, and Rozalin. The game will also feature a vast cast of characters to team up with, all drawn in the series’ signature chibi-style.

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny is already available in Japan on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. It releases in the West on June 29 for Nintendo Switch, with no word on a PS4 release.

Mobile Game Temple Run Is Becoming A Reality TV Show

Hot on the heels of the excellent adaptation of Castlevania comes another video game making the jump to television: Temple Run. The classic mobile game is becoming a competitive reality TV series, developer Imangi Studios announced today in partnership with television production company A. Smith & Co.

A. Smith & Co previously developed American Ninja Warrior, The Titan Games, and Mental Samurai, and are now looking to bring the iconic mobile game, which has surpassed 2 billion downloads since its initial release, to life. The series will recreate the Temple Run course and let contestants run it in real life, with all the twists and obstacles that come with.

“Temple run is one of the most recognizable mobile games in the world and we have big plans to bring the global phenomenon to life,” said A. Smith & Co chairman Arthur Smith in an official statement. “We will bring our keen eye and passion for unscripted content to create a competition where, just like the beloved game, speed, agility and quick decision-making are key.”

Temple Run initially released for iOS in the summer of 2011, just a hair short of a decade ago, and helped bring the “endless runner” genre of games, which included titles like Robot Unicorn Attack and Jetpack Joyride, to the mainstream. Back in 2013, Warner Bros. was reportedly in talks to produce a film based on the property. Developer Imangi Studios lists Temple Run and Temple Run 2, released in 2013, as their only released games.

Anime Face-Off: Which Shonen Protagonist Is the Best?

From Goku to Naruto to Monkey D. Luffy to Eren Jaeger, there have been some incredible Shonen protagonists that have inspired millions of anime fans across the world.

Each person has their favorite, and we thought we’d let you decide who the best Shonen protagonist of all time is. Is Deku your favorite? How about Giorno Giovanna or Gon Freecss? We’ve selected 149 incredible Shonen heroes to “Face-Off” against each other two at a time. Will you choose Inuyasha over Light Yagami? Or Lucy Heartfilia over Tanjiro Kamado? The choice is yours…

Click here to start voting in the Shonen Protagonist Face-Off!

What Is a Face-Off?

Like the name suggests, a Face-Off pits two things against one another and you decide which one is the superior of the two. In this case, you are voting to determine who the best Shonen protagonist is. It’s possible to see certain Shonen protagonists multiple times so you can keep voting for your favorites to ensure they get ranked higher than the rest. All these heroes get randomly paired up and each time you pick a winner, it’s tracked.

Where Are the Shonen Villains?

This Face-Off is focused on the heroes of our favorite Shonen anime, so you won’t find any of the best villains here. However, something tells us they may have their time to shine in the future…

[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/25/top-10-best-anime-series-of-all-time”]

How Do You Determine a Winner?

When voting ends on June 1, we tally up the total number of “wins” and “losses” each Shonen protagonist has and create a ranked list based on your choices that will go live on June 2. The Shonen protagonist that won the most matchups will be crowned the “winner,” and in the event of a tied number of “wins,” the hero with the least “losses” will take the top spot. If you continue to keep voting for your favorite hero, they’ll have a better chance of ranking high on the list. You can vote as many times as you want until the Face-Off closes.

How Do I Know When I’ve Clicked Through Everything?

It’s difficult to know when you’ve seen every Shonen protagonist included because they are matched randomly and there are so many possible match-ups. Playing until you vote for all your favorite heroes or ensuring that certain heroes don’t get in the winner’s circle are different options you can take with a Face-Off. By deciding the winner throughout all these matchups, you’re ensuring that your picks for the best Shonen protagonist will have a fighting chance to reach the top of the list.

[widget path=”global/article/imagegallery” parameters=”slug=the-best-anime-of-the-decade-2010-2019&captions=true”]

Which Shonen Protagonists Have You Included?

The list of Shonen protagonist face-off competitors has been decided by IGN staff, and we’ve decided to include many of the favorite heroes from across a ton of anime. We’ve tried to limit the number of heroes per show and tried to include a wide variety of shows and heroes. As we mentioned previously, there are no villains in this list, although it does include a few heroes who have had a change of heart!

The Xbox Series X Fridge Is Now In Dirt 5

The Xbox Series X fridge, the meme that keeps on giving, has found its way into Dirt 5 as part of the Power Your Memes Pack. The pack is available exclusively as a Game Pass Ultimate perk for Dirt 5 on Xbox and the Windows 10 version on PC. The pack contains the infamous Xbox Series X fridge as an item that can be placed in Dirt 5’s Playgrounds, its custom arena creator. Players who download the pack can also play on maps with the fridge that other players have created.

Based on the images posted by developer Codemasters, the in-game model of the fridge is opened slightly, with a variety of colorful drinks visible. The pack also includes three car skins to use in-game: one for the BMW M2 Competition, Sodicars Racing BV6, and Jimco Unlimited Class 1. It’s unclear why exactly the Xbox Series X fridge is being added to the game, but it will probably lead to some interesting player-created maps.

No Caption Provided

The Xbox Series X fridge first came around after Microsoft officially announced that the console is, in fact, not the size of a refrigerator in response to memes about the two items having a similar shape. Microsoft took the meme one step further by creating actual, full-sized refrigerators modeled after the Xbox Series X. Later, Microsoft created mini versions of the refrigerator, as part of a marketing deal with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and eventually promised to manufacture some for sale after beating Skittles in a Twitter battle.

Codemasters was recently acquired by EA after the company stepped in with a higher offer than Take-Two, which was also trying to acquire the racing game developer. Dirt 5 is available on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It is also currently available as part of Xbox Game Pass on PC and console.
