Lego Announces Largest Set Ever, With Over 11,000 Pieces

Lego is launching its largest set ever, the Lego World Map, on June 1. Reported by Wavy, the new mosaic set contains 11,695 pieces to create a massive Lego map to put up on your wall. The Lego World Map comes in at 26 inches high and 41 inches long, with white pieces to create the continents and colorful pieces for the ocean section. The map also features the option to adjust what continents are at the center of the map for anyone who wants to center their home country.

The Lego World Map takes the record for most pieces from the Coloeum set from December 2020, which contained 9036 pieces. The Lego World Map is listed at $250 USD on the Lego website (which is $300 cheaper than the Colosseum set) and includes a QR code that links to a custom playlist to listen to while building the map. It also includes a white frame and two hangers, so you can mount the map to the wall. Fiorella Groves, Creative Lead for Lego Art, said the set was meant to serve as something to help comfort those who have been unable to travel for the past year.

“We know that our adult fans love to travel, but many haven’t been able to do so for over a year now,” Fiorella said. “We thought that there was no better way of helping explore the world while relaxing in the comfort of their home than by allowing them to build, rebuild, plan and reminisce through building.”

Lego has been on a hot streak of announcements over the last few months, announcing multiple Star Wars Legos, like R2-D2 and a model of Darth Vader’s helmet. Lego also announced the Daily Bugle set, the largest Marvel-inspired Lego set to date, with 3,700 pieces and 25 minifigures.

Minecraft Dungeons Anniversary Brings Cake (And New Content)

Minecraft Dungeons is celebrating its one-year anniversary with new free content, new DLC, and a special in-game event where players can acquire a suit of armor that looks good enough to eat.

From May 6 to June 8, Minecraft Dungeon players can complete seasonal trials to earn special anniversary rewards, including cake-themed armor and an event exclusive cape.

Going hand-in-blocky-hand with the anniversary celebration is the arrival of the game’s Hidden Depths DLC. The latest expansion for the Minecraft-themed action RPG, Hidden Depths takes players under the sea and brings with it new enemies, armor, artifacts, and weapons like the Coral Blade and Bubble Bow for players to acquire. While underwater, players will need to keep up their oxygen levels while swimming through streams of air bubbles, a concept that is likely familiar to players of the original Minecraft.

A new, free update for all players will also add a new enemy type to the game in the form of Raid Captains, which players can seek out for more challenge and more rewards.

Minecraft Dungeons received cross-play between consoles and PC late last year, with cloud-enabled cross-saves coming to the game just earlier this month. The game is even receiving an arcade cabinet version. Overall, it’s been a good first year for Minecraft Dungeons, which recently reached 10 million players, no doubt in part thanks to its inclusion on Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service for both Xbox consoles and PC. The game is also available on Nintendo Switch.

PUBG’s 12.1 Patch Notes Detail Miramar Remaster; Devs Tease New Maps With Respawning

PUBG’s gone through a lot of changes since its initial release more than four years ago, and that means that some of its older maps are showing their age. In the game’s latest patch, Update 12.1, developer Krafton is rolling out a complete remaster of the big desert map Miramar.

The patch, which is now live on test servers, significantly improves the fidelity of all parts of the Miramar map in order to bring it up to the same level as the other maps. The studio is also modifying the environment alongside the fidelity upgrades for the purpose of providing an “overall smoother experience, with reduced object clutter, less troublesome coastlines, adjusted cover across the map, and more,” according to the patch notes.

Most of the map should remain familiar to veteran PUBG players. On the visual side, the developer has given a fresh coat of paint to buildings, objects, cliffs, and foliage, and it’s updated the map’s lighting. On the terrain and geometry side, one of the most noticeable changes is the addition of new cliffs to better indicate steep slopes. In addition, smaller, superfluous objects have been reduced throughout urban areas to make navigation easier. Check out some before-and-after shots in the video above.

The rest of the patch includes a variety of gameplay tweaks, fixes, and additions. It introduces a new vehicle, the Quad, which is a racing-style ATV with two seats that spawns on Miramar. In addition, pre-match lobbies will now include two soccer balls per player area, just for killing time before a round starts (they disappear once the round begins). Check out the rest of PUBG’s Update 12.1 patch notes at the bottom of this article.

Alongside the release of Update 12.1 to test servers, Krafton also teased two new maps coming to the game. The first, which is codenamed “Tiger,” is an 8-on-8 map and will launch in Q3 2021. This map will feature one of the biggest changes to core PUBG gameplay, too: a respawn system. The second map, codenamed “Kiki,” is further out with a planned release in Q4 2021 or Q1 2022. It’ll also be an 8-on-8 map and will feature a wide array of locations, “from mysterious underground labs and massive skyscrapers to swamplands and underwater buildings,” according to Krafton’s statement.

PUBG Update 12.1 Patch Notes

New Weapon–Lynx AMR

The Lynx AMR is PUBG’s first Anti-Materiel Rifle, a semi-automatic crate gun capable of damaging military equipment and armor, in addition to players and vehicles.

Intended as a hard counter to vehicles, the Lynx is also effective in any situations you’d find yourself wanting to scope in and shoot down an enemy.

  • PUBG’s first .50 caliber weapon
  • The Lynx AMR is first and foremost the best anti-vehicle sniper rifle in the game, capable of destroying BRDMs and even penetrating the windows to kill its occupants.
    • Capable of destroying weak vehicles like motorcycles in a single shot and most regular vehicles in two or three shots.
  • Players have five shots only, with no way to reload.
  • Spawns in Care Package only on Miramar in Normal Matches. In a future update, the Lynx will be added to Custom Matches and Training Mode

New Vehicle–Quad

The Quad is an off-road vehicle with four low-pressure tires and a driver seat designed to be straddled by the operator, with handlebars for steering control, with room on the back for a teammate.

  • Seats: 2
  • Health: 750
  • Maximum Speed: 110 km/h (125 km/h at maximum boost)
  • Maximum Range: 24.4 km (18.5 km at maximum boost)
  • Only spawns on Miramar.
  • Will be added to in Custom Matches and Training Mode in a future update.

CoD: Warzone Season 4 Image Teases That Verdansk Needs Saving

Co-developer Raven Software has posted a Call of Duty: Warzone teaser hinting at what’s to come in the battle royale’s next season of content.

Over on Twitter, Raven Software posted a redacted image of three lines of text. The first two lines are blacked out in the middle, but the final line states that “something must be done soon.” It’s the first two lines, however, that point to something potentially drastic happening on the streets of Verdansk.

Now Playing: Everything To Know About Call Of Duty: Cold War’s Mid-Season 3 Update

There’s something about “cargo,” but more importantly, the text appears to state that Verdansk needs saving. Twitter users jumped onto the post, seeking to decipher its message. One, who thinks they have cracked it, suggests it reads: “Cargo trucks are the current meta. Verdansk swiftly needs saving. Something must be done soon.” Raven Software has yet to confirm the text’s meaning.

Both Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone have received a mid-Season 3 Reloaded update that introduces more weapons, ’80s actions heroes John McClane and Rambo, and various other gameplay tweaks.

There’s no start date for Season 4 yet, but it’s likely to begin in mid-June. Whenever it does go live, the next season of content could make some significant changes to the battle royale shooter.

Xbox Summer Briefing Coming June 13 As Joint Show With Bethesda

Microsoft’s big E3-style summer showcase event is coming June 13 as a joint briefing with Bethesda, the gaming giant announced on Wednesday. You can expect world premieres and new titles for Xbox Game Pass during the show. “Games, games, games,” Microsoft said.

The event is slated for Sunday, June 13, starting at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Based on the teaser image, it seems Halo Infinite will have a major presence at the show, which should come as no surprise given the game is finally releasing this year. 2021 also marks the 20th anniversary of not only Halo, but the Xbox brand overall, so it’s expected Microsoft will go big.

The showcase is going to be 90 minutes long, and it will focus on the “epic gaming lineup” coming from Xbox and Bethesda, including new Xbox games for 2021 and more.

“You’ve told us how excited you are about welcoming Bethesda into the Xbox family, so we know you’re going to want a front-row seat to the Xbox & Bethesda Games showcase–a 90-minute show packed with everything you want to know about the epic gaming lineup coming out of this partnership, the incredible games coming to Xbox this holiday, upcoming releases on Xbox Game Pass, and more,” Microsoft said.

You’ll be able to watch the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, and GameSpot will bring you all the big news as it’s announced.

Microsoft also confirmed it will hold a digital Xbox FanFest this year; it won’t be a physical event due to COVID. You can sign up for the FanFest at this website: Xbox.com/FanFest.

With Microsoft’s plans now coming into focus, the summer’s big events are now shaping up. Sony is kicking things off with a State of Play on May 27 featuring Horizon: Forbidden West. This will be followed by Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest Kick Off show on June 10. After that, Ubisoft Forward is slated for June 12. E3 2021 is slated for June 12-15. EA Play Live 2021 is coming in July, while Gamescom 2021’s digital show takes place in August.

Sony (outside of the May 27 State of Play) and Nintendo have yet to announce any plans for their own big gaming showcases.

Square Enix Wants Players To Final Fantasy Brave Exvius And Chill In New Update

Square Enix has given Final Fantasy Brave Exvius players some new lo-fi hip hop music to adventure/play to, announcing a new partnership with English lo-fi musical group Chillhop Music.

The partnership begins with the Final Fantasy Exvius Universe x Chillhop Music compilation album, a 25-track record created by Chillhop Music in collaboration with Square Enix, that can be streamed on all major streaming platforms.

To celebrate the release of the album, both of the games in the mobile Final Fantasy Exvius Universe–Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and War of the Visions Final Fantasy Brave Exvius–will be running limited-time events themed around lo-fi music.

The new content coming to War of the Visions, as described in the official press release, is as follows:

  • Collaboration Event – Players can challenge this limited-time event, which features a lo-fi remixed WOTV FFBE song from the compilation album, once per day to earn rewards.
  • Home Screen Background Music – Fans can chill out with new home screen background music, which will be the lo-fi version of the song Under the Flag Remixed by SwuM for a limited time.
  • Social Campaign – Players have the chance to earn 2,500 Visiore by liking/following the official WOTV FFBE Facebook and Twitter pages and by sharing/retweeting campaign posts on those pages. Full details and rules for entry are available on the official social channels.

Content specifically for the original Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, also found in the official release, is below:

  • Lo-fi Login Bonus – Players will receive a special item called the “Lo-fi Note” by logging in daily and can exchange it within the game’s Exchange Shop to receive the “Lo-fi Headphones” equipment, which boost water, ice, wind and dark resistance by 20%, nullify sleep, silence and confusion and have the Auto-Shell ability, which automatically boosts SPR and reduces magic damage taken. Players can also exchange “Lo-fi Notes” for summon tickets, Lapis and more.
  • Home Screen Background Music – Fans will be treated to new home screen background music during the collaboration period featuring a Chillhop Music collaboration song called Moment of Recall, Remixed by SwuM.

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a freemium turn-based RPG on both iOS and Android that first launched worldwide in June 2016. Its companion game, War of the Visions, is a tactical turn-based RPG that launched just under two years later in March 2020. The two games are connected via the story, with War of the Visions occuring far in the first game’s past.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Captures Olympic Action Without Mario Or Sonic

Sega is publishing another Tokyo Olympics video game, this time without the Mario and Sonic. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game is a (slightly) more straight-faced presentation of Olympic sports, coming June 22 to PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. It will cost $40.

The compilation will include 18 Olympic events that you can take part in with your own customized avatar, with multiplayer up to 8 players. But while there are no mustachioed plumbers or blue hedgehogs in sight, it still has some goofy fun with the historical competition. Your avatar can wear wild outfits like pirate duds and an astronaut space suit.

The 18 Olympic events include:

  • 100m
  • 4x100m Relay
  • 110m Hurdles
  • Hammer Throw
  • Long Jump

Sega previously released Mario & Sonic At the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 in the year 2019, before we even knew there would not be any Olympics held in 2020. Those plans were scuttled by the global COVID-19 pandemic and reorganized to take place this year instead, starting in July. The events themselves will still officially be called the 2020 Summer Olympics.

“The Olympic Games are a unifying symbol of sportsmanship and competition for athletes and fans throughout the world,” said Sega of America president Ian Curran, in the announcement. “Tokyo 2020 channels that positive spirit into a fun, arcade-style experience for friends and family to play together as we all look forward to the start of the Olympic Games this Summer.”

Web Developer Creates Doom-Themed CAPTCHA, Because Why Not

A web developer from Spain who’s tired of boring CAPTCHAs decided to spice things up by creating a Doom-themed CAPTCHA for fun. The small minigame, which is playable on the project’s GitHub page, challenges you to shoot four imps with a pistol before time expires. If you complete the task, it’ll give you the go-ahead.

Spanish developer Miquel Camps Orteza created the CAPTCHA as a fun side project in just a few days. On the GitHub page, Orteza notes that the widget doesn’t actually provide the security of a real CAPTCHA, because its code only works on the user side. Most CAPTCHAs have both a user and server component in order to prevent hackers and bots from circumventing them.

“I think that today there have been much better projects than this one, but somehow Doom Captcha has brought you some kind of nostalgia and you felt the project as yours,” he wrote. “…It was funny to see the people’s reaction because everyone hates CAPTCHAs and they found fun in the Doom CAPTCHA.”

As one of the most iconic PC games of all time, hackers and developers often use Doom to demonstrate the possibilities of exploits they uncover. For example, a developer recently got a free version of the game working through a playable GIF on a fanfiction website. Prior to that, we saw Doom playable on a pregnancy test and on a graphing calculator powered by potato slices. Still, Doom has come a long way visually from 1993, with the 2020 release of the latest game in the series, Doom Eternal, as well as its DLC The Ancient Gods Part 2.

Monster Hunter Rise 3.0 Update Arrives Today, Crossover Events Announced

Monster Hunter Rise‘s 3.0 update releases today, May 26, Capcom announced during its latest Monster Hunter Digital Event stream. The update is slated to go live at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET, and it introduces two new monsters to hunt, as well as a new ending to the game’s story.

First is Crimson Glow Valstrax, a new variant of the flagship monster from Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. As Capcom describes, “This elder dragon typically secludes itself in the upper atmosphere, but it has been driven mad by its own rampant energy, causing it to lash out at anything in its sight.”

In addition to Crimson Glow Valstrax, the 3.0 update is also introducing Apex Zinogre to the game. “Its body is covered in scars and wounds as if it had been caught in a storm, and it’s seemingly always dominated by wrath and terror,” Capcom says. You can check out both fearsome monsters in the trailer above.

The final big addition is a new ending to the game’s story. It appears the Elder Dragons Ibushi and Narwa, which had been searching for each other throughout the entire game, will finally reunite, and you’ll need to take on both of them together to finally rid Kamura of the Rampage.

Beyond the new monsters, Capcom is also releasing a third wave of cosmetic DLC for the game alongside the 3.0 update. This batch includes more new voices, gestures, hairstyles, and other cosmetic options for your hunter. The update will fix various bugs as well. You can check out the full patch notes below.

  • Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause decorations to be unequipped when changing to a different loadout that contains the same decorations.
  • If the player has a Daily Special dango registered to a set, Dango Carver (Hi) would sometimes activate even when it’s not the Daily Special. This has been addressed.

  • Fixed a bug causing the wind effect to remain on screen if the monster is slain while creating an air stream during the Serpent God of Wind quest.
  • Fixed a bug that would very occasionally prevent the player from advancing when Bishaten clings onto a wall.

  • If the player is riding a Palamute when Almudron dives under and creates a mud maze, there would sometimes be paths between the mud walls too narrow to pass through, and some walls would warp the player somewhere else when touching them. This has been addressed.
  • Fixed a bug preventing Buddies from helping the player if they are inflicted with a status ailment while in a state where knockback is negated.
  • Fixed a bug where the dual blades’ Demon Mode attacks and the heavy bowgun’s melee attack were not included in the conditions for the Latent Power skill.
  • Fixed a bug causing the player to get stuck in the environment when using Wyvern Riding actions on Tobi-Kadachi in the Flooded Forest.
