Danger Zone 2 Review

The highway to the Danger Zone is, in fact, an actual highway this time.

Danger Zone 2 is, in everything but name, a direct successor to the beloved Crash mode in Burnout Revenge, in the very best of ways. This colorful game of automotive destruction is what I’d hoped for when last year’s disappointing Danger Zone set its action in a joyless grey box of a warehouse. It laudibly brings your cars – yes, plural this time – back above ground and out onto realistic closed-circuit tracks where they can really perform. And by “perform” I mean “intentionally and horrifyingly wreck, twisting your car into a flaming mass of twisted metal and causing 80-car pile-ups with your Smashbreaker explosions.”

The world of ultra-wide gaming monitors keeps expanding, and with continued advancements in GPU technology, someday we’ll reach the dream of massive 21:9 displays with 4K resolutions and high refresh rates. Until that day arrives, the Acer XR382CQK (See it on Amazon) finds a middle ground between 1440p and 4K with a 3840 x 1600 resolution on a massive 37.5” screen. The feature set and dimensions are unique, with the exception of the similarly-priced LG 38UC99-W, but is the extra screen real estate and impressive resolution worth the hefty $1,200 price tag? Let’s find out.

Earthfall Review

Frankly, I was never able to successfully shake the phrase “Left 4 Dead, but worse” from my mind during my time with Earthfall. Admittedly, Valve is one of the toughest acts to follow in all of gaming, but every aspect of this co-op shooter falls short of its inspiration and none of its depressingly few new ideas stood out as innovative or meaningful. But perhaps Earthfall’s greatest shortcoming is the lack of replay value for its limited batch of levels.

Earthfall sends a team of four players through 10 mostly linear missions set in the aftermath of a cataclysmic alien invasion. You’ll combat an unending onslaught of shambling alien drones and endure frequent attacks from the teamwork inducing “special” enemies, most of whom are extremely derivative. Sappers explode, Threshers pounce, and Whiplashes whisk away teammates. Annoyingly, this trio spawns together at predictably regular intervals. The two disablers let loose an initial battlecry, but good luck keeping track of them after that, as they emit hardly any sound. As a result, getting pounced or grabbed feels unavoidable and obligatory.

Scarlett Johansson Drops Out of Transgender Biopic

Scarlett Johansson has officially left the transgender biopic film Rub and Tug after receiving public backlash for accepting the role.

Johansson gave her statement exclusively to the LGBTQ website and magazine Out, detailing her reasons for withdrawing from the role as Dante Tex Gill, a transgender gangster who rose to prominence in the 70’s and 80’s.

“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project,” said Johansson. “Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive.”
