Toys for the upcoming movie Spider-Man: No Way Home are now available for preorder, and if we know anything, it’s that these toys will give us some idea of what to expect in the movie. Back in 2017, a Lego set for Spider-Man: Homecoming let us know The Shocker and Damage Control would be a part of the film. Here’s what we can figure out from the newly revealed No Way Home toys.
First, there are numerous figures for Spider-Man in a black and gold suit. We’ve seen this used a couple times in the past. The most recent was the Spider-Man video game for PS4, where Peter Parker made a suit made from the same material as Doctor Octavius’s tentacles, in order to fight him. The other time we’ve seen a black and gold suit in the comics was when Spider-Man wore the Spider-Armor MK II costume. Parker designed this suit after he lost his Spidey-Sense in order to give him a leg up in battle. Neither of these suits look identical to the one on the new toy, which you can see below. Also, it doesn’t look anything like the Symbiote Spider-Man Suit, in case you saw a black-suited Spidey and thought we were getting Venom in the MCU. It will be available exclusively at Target, but is not available for preorder yet.

There is another new Spidey-suit on display for the Funko Pops, and that’s the Spider-Man Integrated Suit. It’s the red, blue, and gold suit with some sort Doctor Strange mysticism incorporated into it. Why does Spider-Man need mysticism in his suit? We’re guessing to jump into the multiverse. This movie has the multiverse, right? Additionally, there’s a Doctor Strange Funko Pop as well, and he’s holding a shovel. Why is he holding a shovel? We have no clue. You can check those out above as well.

There’s also the return of J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson–who popped up as a big surprise at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home. There’s a Marvel Legends figure on the way of him with his signature angry face and point, which is probably letting viewers at home know that Spider-Man is a menace–and a murderer.
Lego has an interesting set coming up as well. Spider-Man will be teaming up with Doctor Strange in the Spider-Man at the Sanctum Workshop playset, which will retail for $40. The upcoming 355 piece set has four mini figures: Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, MJ, and Wong. It looks like they’re fighting a giant Scorpion.

In addition two other Lego sets were revealed: Spider-Man’s Drone Duel (from Homecoming) and Spider-Man vs. Mysterio’s Drone Attack (from Far From Home). While the Drone Attack set looks pretty typical, the Drone Duel is a bit interesting because the Spider-Man minifig contained in the set is in the black and gold suit, which is from No Way Home. Could Spider-Man be traveling to his past adventures? Is the Vulture back for the new movie? Or is it all just coincidence? No way to tell until we get an actual trailer for the movie, and there’s no word yet on when that’s arriving.
Doom Eternal is celebrating America’s birthday with a special event called “O Slay Can You See.” As part of this, players can earn all manner of new items and outfits for racking up XP across the game’s various modes now through July 29.
Beating campaign missions and taking part in Battlemode matches are two of the ways you can earn XP in Doom Eternal, while you can also participate in weekly challenges to get the goods. In terms of what’s on offer, the O Slay Can You See event offers up patriotic and jubilation-based items, perhaps the most striking of which is what appears to be a new red, white, and blue skin for your character featuring “USA” printed on the front. Your doomblade appears to have been turned into a sparkler, too. You can see all the wares in the image below, which developer id Software shared on its website.

In other Doom Eternal news, id Software just announced that the game’s Invasion mode has been canceled and will be replaced by a horde-style mode. Citing unforeseen consequences from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the studio shifting to a remote work environment, Id Software has instead focused its efforts on the new horde mode and an upcoming rework of the multiplayer Battlemode.
Doom Eternal isn’t the only popular game celebrating 4th of July, as Grand Theft Auto Online is once again ringing in the American holiday with a number of patriotic goodies.
Additionally, there are a number of 4th of July sales going on now, covering gaming laptops and monitors to games and more. You can read GameSpot’s rundown of the best 4th of July deals to learn more.
Sony will continue to sell PSP games via the PS3 and Vita stores despite the closure of the PSP store.
PlayStation has updated the messaging on its support page for “discontinued apps, features and services” to reflect the change amid the shutdown of the PSP store. “You’ll still be able to purchase and play PSP content that is available on the PS3 and PS Vita stores,” the site says. “However, you’ll no longer be able to make purchases via the in-game store for PSP content.”
[ignvideo url=”https://www.ign.com/videos/why-ps3-psp-and-vita-stores-closing-would-be-such-a-big-deal-beyond-episode-693″]
The newly-released notice on the site also makes clear that users will still be able to download previously purchases PSP content, though, from July 6, users will no longer be able to perform searches or make in-game purchases. It was previously stated that “PSP commerce functionality” would end on July 2 but, up until now, it was unclear what Sony had planned.
Sony originally announced in March that it would be shutting down the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3 and PSP on July 2, 2021, and the PSN Store for the Vita on August 27, 2021. The company addressed the store closure in an email sent out to customers, confirming that they would still be able to re-download and play previously purchased games and videos.
The news was met with dismay from video game preservation advocates after knowing many legacy games from the PS1 and PSP era would no longer be available after a certain date. The public outcry seemingly prompted Sony to reverse that decision, as Sony released a fresh statement in April to reveal that the stores for PS3 and PS Vita would continue to live on.

While Sony was keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices, it was never made entirely clear whether PSP content would be available for sale on those platforms. The clarity gained from the latest update will be great news for those who still use these systems and for the preservation of video game history as a whole.

The core Hellboy and BPRD saga may have ended with 2019’s BPRD: The Devil You Know #15, but creator Mike Mignola continues to revisit this horror fantasy universe with new Hellboy stories. The Secret of Chesbro House is a two-issue limited series written by Mignola and his Baltimore collaborator Christopher Golden. The series is drawn by Shawn McManus, one of the artists responsible for bringing Alan Moore’s legendary Saga of the Swamp Thing to life.
Here’s Dark Horse’s official description for the series:
Hellboy works with a psychic to clear a haunted mansion for auction. But the ghosts in residence aren’t quite ready to go gentle into that good night, and the answer may lie in a connection with the living world . . .
Hellboy creator Mike Mignola teams with longtime collaborator Christopher Golden and artist extraordinaire Shawn McManus to bring you a brand-new frightful delight from the world of Hellboy!
Look for Hellboy and the BPRD: The Secret of Chesbro House to hit stores on Wednesday, July 7.

Mignola is also hard at work expanding his *other* shared horror universe in 2021. Tales From the Outerverse is a new trio of miniseries set in Mignola and Christopher Golden’s Baltimore/Joe Golem universe.
Find out why we think the Hellboy saga is an unprecedented accomplishment for Mignola and his collaborators.

Doom Eternal developer Id Software has announced that its planned free Invasion Mode update for the game has been canceled and will be replaced with a single-player horde mode. Invasion Mode was originally envisioned as a Dark Souls-inspired feature, which would allow players to drop into the campaign of other players and hunt them down as a demon.
Citing unforeseen consequences from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the studio shifting to a remote work environment, Id Software has instead focused its efforts on the new horde mode and an upcoming rework of the multiplayer Battlemode.
“With these factors in mind, we have decided to redirect our focus from Invasion Mode to creating a totally new single-player horde mode,” Id Software explained in a blog post. “We’re confident this horde mode will offer you more of the diversity and challenge you’re looking for in the game. In addition, the team continues to work on a refresh of Battlemode that includes a more competitive, rank-based structure, a number of gameplay and balance updates and another new map.”
Id said that it expects to share more information at QuakeCon in August on what’s next for the game. Doom Eternal has seen plenty of activity since it launched last year in March, with the game bringing the current saga of the Doomslayer to an end in the two-part Ancient Gods expansion.
With Bethesda having joined the Microsoft family, Doom Eternal was added to the Xbox Game Pass service as well and Id Software mentioned earlier this year that it still had plenty of stories to tell in that universe. In more recent news, the game’s next-generation patch for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC was released this week, adding enhanced performance and ray tracing features to the game.
Microsoft is celebrating 20 years of Xbox and will be holding a digital Halo 3 tournament in July as part of the celebration. The 2v2 tournament will be held through a smash.gg ladder and is open to Xbox Fanfest members in North America. Xbox players can become Fanfest members on the official website and opt-in to the tournament there. After opting in, people will receive an email with their registration code for the smash.gg tournament. There will also be a playlist added into Halo: The Master Chief Collection so players can practice for the tournament.
The tournament will have open matchmaking ladders on each Friday and Saturday of the month starting on July 9. The top eight teams from Friday and Saturday will play in a double-elimination bracket on Sunday. The series finale will take place on Sunday, July 31, with the top 16 teams from the month. There is $25,000 up for grabs, although Microsoft did not specify how the prize money will be split up. The Sunday brackets and the series finale will be streamed on the official Xbox Twitch channel.
Also as part of the 20th anniversary celebration, beginning on July 6. Xbox Game Pass members will be able to earn double points completing specific quests, centered around playing select games as part of the celebration. In other Halo: MCC news, a 343 Industries producer said that the team is investigating if the player count of older Halo titles could be increased, up to 60 players.
A new title update for Mario Kart Live on Nintendo Switch has added some more features to the game–a nice surprise for those who may have picked the game up at a discount during the Prime Day sales we saw in June.
As revealed in patch notes on Nintendo’s website, Mario Kart Live now includes the Mario Cup event in the Grand Prix, and completing certain challenges in the cup will reward you with an extra gate and three more environments. Those, according to VGC, are the Donkey Kong-themed Barrel Temple, the oily Slip Circuit, and the rocky Fossil Field.
The Super Yoshi and Yoshi Horn items have also been added, and require you to complete certain challenges in the Mario Cup, as well.
The last update for Mario Kart Live arrived all the way back in October, and it adjusted some settings on the physical kart’s camera to make it work better in indoor areas with direct sunlight or bright lights. Mario Kart Live requires the use of physical gates that the camera can identity in order to make sure you’re staying on the “track,” with both virtual hazards and whatever real-world obstacles you place standing in your way.
The Mario Kart Live software is actually free to download from the Nintendo eShop. However, it’s useless without the physical components.
Dan Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games who played a central role in the GTA and Red Dead franchises, is apparently setting the stage to create some kind of new company. After leaving Rockstar in 2020, Houser appears to be starting some kind of new company called Absurd Ventures in Games. The UK’s registrar of companies said in a filing (via VGC) that Absurd Ventures in Games will work in the area of “ready-made interactive leisure and entertainment software development.”
Absurd Ventures LLC and Absurd Ventures in Games LLC companies have also been registered in the United States, dating back to February. In any case, it sounds like it’s early days for Houser’s new company, whatever it might be.
Houser had been away from the company on an “extended break” since spring 2019 following the intense workload of Red Dead Redemption 2 before officially leaving in 2020. Houser said he and a small team worked 100-hour work weeks during some stages of the game’s production, for which he was a writer.
Dan’s brother, Sam Houser, is staying with Rockstar as its president.
The departure of Dan Houser came after another high-ranking Rockstar employee, Leslie Benzies, left the developer in 2016. He went on to sue Rockstar for $150 million before the case was settled in 2018. Benzies started his own studio, Build a Rocket Boy, which is now developing a game called Everywhere.
Dan Houser was a key creative figure in the development of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises. In 2018, Dan Houser said it would be tricky to make GTA 6 in the world’s political climate.
“It’s really unclear what we would even do with it, let alone how upset people would get with whatever we did,” Houser said about GTA 6. “Both intense liberal progression and intense conservatism are both very militant, and very angry. It is scary but it’s also strange, and yet both of them seem occasionally to veer towards the absurd. It’s hard to satirise for those reasons. Some of the stuff you see is straightforwardly beyond satire. It would be out of date within two minutes, everything is changing so fast.”
A recent report said GTA 6 is in development for release in 2025 and that it could have a Fortnite-style evolving map.
Another prominent Rockstar developer, 17-year veteran Imran Sarwar, left Rockstar in May 2019, according to his LinkedIn page. Just this week, it was announced that Sarwar sits on the Expert Council for Matthew Ball’s new Metaverse investment fund.
Things are getting exciting in the home arcade world. Arcade1Up, one of the most popular purveyors of home arcade machines, is coming out with two remarkable cabinets this October: Street Fighter II Big Blue (see it at GameStop) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (see it at Best Buy). Both machines are now available for preorder now.
Nineties kids will remember these machines were some of the most popular destinations in arcades a couple decades ago, particularly for multiplayer. Now you can set them up in your game room, office, bedroom, or heck, even kitchen.
[poilib element=”commerceDeal” parameters=”slug=arcade1up-tmnt-turtles-in-time”]
These machines cost a bit more than previous Arcade1Up hardware, but they do come fully featured. The Street Fighter II Big Blue machine includes a riser, light-up marquee, light-up deck protector, and a Street Fighter II stool. It also supports free online multiplayer via Wi-Fi.
Another thing that might not be obvious is that it includes a lot more than just Street Fighter games. You get three versions of SF2, including Championship Edition and Hyper Fighting. It also has games like Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Darkstalkers, Knights of the Round, and more. You can find a complete list below.

As for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time machine, it comes with an expanded control panel featuring four control inputs so you and your friends can relive your glory days huddled around a machine giving the Foot Clan a beatdown. It includes a riser, light-up marquee, light-up deck protector, and a Turtles-themed stool. It also sports free online play.
Plus, in addition to 1991’s Turtles in Time game, it includes the 1989 arcade classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game.
