GameStop Anime Game Sale Has Deals On Persona, Dragon Ball, And More

Like anime games from franchises like Dragon Ball or anime-style game series like Persona? Of course you do. With GameStop’s new anime games sale, you can buy a whole bunch of them for up to half off, and many of them feature both pre-owned and new game options.

During GameStop’s We Love Anime sale, several different big-name anime games are on sale, and a few of them are even new releases. Persona 5 Strikers on Nintendo Switch, for instance, is only $40, with the same price available on PS4 and a pre-owned copy knocking a few more dollars off. Personal 5 Royal, which is an upgraded and expanded version of the original version, is $35, as well.

Dragon Ball and Shonen Jump franchises in general are heavily featured in the sale, with Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on sale for just $20. The brawling mashup game Jump Force is just $15, giving you a chance to see some of your favorite characters duke it out, regardless of whether it makes any canonical sense.

Other anime-style games on sale at GameStop include 13 Sentinels: Aeigis Rim. A long-awaited game from Vanillaware, it mixes visual novel-esque adventure elements with strategic combat, and it’s $30 off at the moment. Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is based on the popular series and is one in a very long line of its games, and it is $20 instead of $30.

There are a few other games mentioned in the promotion, including Code Vein, though it appears to be eligible for a promotion on bundled game discounts rather than a discount on its own. However, it’s an excellent Souls-style action-RPG with a vampiric twist.

Below is a list of our favorite deals from the sale. All prices are for the new versions, with pre-owned being a few bucks cheaper.

Resident Evil Village Lore – The Lords

Resident Evil Village has fascinating villains who will attempt to rip Ethan’s face off. Dave explores what we know and the lore behind Alvina Dimitrescu, Donna Beneviento and Angie, Salvatore Moreau, Karl Heisenberg, and of course, Mother Miranda. It’s time for some Resident Evil Village Lore.

Early on in Resident Evil: Village, Ethan is thrown into the wolf’s den, and you get a glimpse of the Lords who await you. I was immediately intrigued by their design and wanted to know more – especially after waking up with a creepy doll in my face. So, here is the lore of Resident Evil: Village’s main villains.

It’s important to start with Miranda and the Cadou, as her tale will help explain the rest of the four lords.

Alcina Dimitrescu was the 181st subject who Miranda experimented on, and as Miranda herself notes, her Cadou Affinity was “Most favorable.”

Final Fantasy XIV Will Add Male Viera (Bunny Boys) In Endwalker; Female Hrothgar At A Later Time

Many details for the upcoming expansion Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker were given during the keynote presentation for Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2021–including the new Reaper job, the official release date, new story details, and so much more. But let’s be honest, for some, the introduction of the playable male Viera race stole the show. This was revealed through a short teaser trailer showing off the male Viera in action and with their glamour and emotes, which you can watch below.

The bunny-like Viera originated in Final Fantasy XII and were first introduced to FFXIV with the 2019 expansion Shadowbringers, but were only available as female in the MMORPG. The limitation of implementing only one sex for the race was said to be due to limited development resources. But with fan demand and interest for male Viera maintaining, the FFXIV team is following up by bringing them to the next expansion Endwalker.

Additionally, director and producer Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the FFXIV team is also working on bringing female Hrothgar to the game. However, their implementation will come later in the future and no timeframe was given. Hrothgar were also introduced in the Shadowbringers expansion, but were only playable as male characters. Both Viera and Hrothgar still have limitations in terms of what types of headgear they can wear for glamour, though.

FFXIV Endwalker is set to launch on November 23 on PC, PS4, and PS5, and those who preorder the expansion will get early access starting on November 19. The full-length cinematic intro was shown off during the Fan Fest 2021 keynote–you can read our FFXIV Endwalker trailer breakdown to get the details on the major story implications.

FFXIV Patch 5.55 And Full PS5 Version Launch May 25, Here Are The Details

The second day of Final Fantasy Fan Fest 2021 kicked off with a Live Letter From the Producer, the regularly scheduled livestream that outlines each major update to Final Fantasy XIV. Director and producer Naoki Yoshida led the presentation and detailed what’s coming to patch 5.55 with regards to the new main story quests, the Save the Queen questline, the full PS5 version of the game, and much more. Lead story designer Natsuko Ishikawa also joined the presentation to discuss her work in creating FFXIV’s narrative.

Patch 5.55 is set to go live on May 25 and it’ll be the last major update leading into the upcoming Endwalker expansion. Additionally, the PS5 version of the game will officially go into service on May 25–this updated version of the game went into live beta in April and has been playable ever since for owners of the PS4 version playing on PS5, so the official service date is more of a formality.

FFXIV on the PS5 supports native 4K resolution, higher frame rates, a high resolution UI, DualSense haptic feedback, new trophies, and 3D audio support. There are also graphics options for 1440p resolution and better frame rate and 1080p for an even consistent frame rate. Owners of the PS4 version of the game can upgrade to the PS5 version for free. You can read about our experience and watch gameplay footage of the PS5 beta for FFXIV in our previous coverage.

The optional Save the Queen questline is getting some major updates: A new battlefield called Zadnor, an increase in the resistance cap from 15 to 25, new skirmishes and critical engagements, a new large-scale raid-like instance called The Dalriada with 48 players, and a difficult decision for players to make that’ll affect the questline’s story. Players will need to complete the patch 5.4 main story and 5.45 Save the Queen quests.

A broad overview of the event schedule for FFXIV was also revealed, which features the following:

  • July 7: Make it Rain campaign in the Gold Saucer
  • June 7 and July 8: Patch 5.57 and Patch 5.58, respectively
  • August 8: Moonfire Faire and The Rising events
  • September 9: Final Fantasy XV collaboration event returns
  • November 11: The last bits of Endwalker release details
