Dragon Quest Tact, A Mobile Tactics Game, Is Getting A Western Release

Dragon Quest Tact, a tactical game in the vein of Fire Emblem Heroes, has been announced for English language markets. The game, which released in Japan back in July, will come to the west soon–although an exact date has not been announced.

Pre-registration is now available on Google Play. You can watch a CGI trailer below, which does not show gameplay but shows how the game uses classic Dragon Quest villains in a tactical setting.

The game will let you build up and train a team of monsters from the series, then equip them with items and send them into battle. This is a tile-based tactical game, where you guide your team around the battlefield and attack enemy foes.

The game will be a free-to-play title, although the Google Play page emphasizes that you’ll be able to obtain many monsters for free over the course of the game. Tact is set in the land of Orchesterra, where a long-dormant evil has returned, and it’s up to you to force it back.

Last year another Dragon Quest mobile game, Dragon Quest Walk, was released in Japan. The AR game is yet to release in other countries.

Someone Got Google Stadia Working On An iPhone

While Apple has recently updated its App Store rules to explicitly allow game streaming services, their restrictiveness means we likely won’t see services like Microsoft xCloud or Google Stadia on iOS any time soon. Despite the lack of official options, a Redditor has recently found workaround to use Stadia on iOS devices, and it’s the simplest one yet.

While a Stadia app does exist on the App Store, it doesn’t allow for games to be played on iOS devices–it’s simply a tool that lets players manage Stadia for other devices. The workaround picked up by Redditor u/zmknox, as reported by Engadget, involves its own specialized app, however.

“Over the past few weeks, some tricks were floating around this subreddit for [getting] Stadia working on iOS 14,” the Reddit post reads. “I decided to ship a highly specialized browser app to the App Store which can make doing this super easy.”

The browser app is called Stadium, and is a pretty simple way to access Stadia on iOS once you authenticate the browser with your Google account. Another Redditor, u/GrayBayPlay, has done some work to make it easier to play with a controller through Stadium.

The creator of Stadium says it’s ad-free with no tracking code, but you should always do your due diligence before downloading an unknown browser to your phone.

It’s still unknown whether Stadia or other similar game streaming services will ever come to iOS in an official capacity. Microsoft has released a statement saying Apple’s restrictive game streaming rules create “a bad experience for customers.” It seems like Amazon’s new Luna cloud gaming service has found a workaround that will suit Apple, however–it will run on iOS as a web app.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare/Warzone Season 6 Adds More PS4 Exclusive Content

The partnership between Sony and Activision for Call of Duty continues with Modern Warfare and Warzone, and now it’s been confirmed that the Season 6 update includes even more exclusive content for PS4 owners.

Writing on the PlayStation Blog, Activision laid out all of this content, beginning with a new map for the Spec Ops Survival mode. Survival mode will support the Hovec Sawmill map for its wave-based mode with the Season 6 update; this map is set at a sawmill with a barn in the middle and long sightlines for players who like sniping.

In other news about the Survival mode for Spec Ops, after nearly a year of exclusivity to PS4, the mode itself will be available on Xbox One and PC starting on October 1. Activision also clarified that the Hovec Sawmill map for Survival mode will be exclusive to PS4 until October 1.

Another PS4-exclusive coming in Season 6 is the Combat Pack for Warzone. Free for all PS Plus subscribers, the pack comes with the following items:

  • Epic Rodion ‘Red Death’ skin (This skin unlocks the Operator, if not already owned)
  • Epic ‘Shivvie’ Melee Weapon
  • Epic ‘Slipshod’ Handgun Weapon Blueprint
  • Epic ‘Ball and Chain’ Charm
  • Epic ‘Don’t Back Down’ Calling Card
  • Epic ‘Gulag’ Emblem
  • Epic ‘Inside Job’ Sticker
  • 60 Minute Double XP Token

This Combat Pack is exclusive to PS4 until December 1, 2020.

Finally, PS4 users are getting the Tide Pool weapon blueprint, which is exclusive to PS4 until October 1, 2020. This is a special sniper rifle with a shorter barrel, but Activision says it’s still powerful and effective with its “quality scope.” You can unlock the Tide Pool by completing a five-step mission, the full details of which can be found in the Missions tab.

Zelda: BOTW-Inspired Game Genshin Impact Is Out Now

Genshin Impact, an open world RPG by Chinese developer Mihoyo, made waves when it was announced last year, with many complaining that the game looked like it had plagiarized Zelda: Breath Of The Wild‘s most distinctive features. Now that the game is out for free on multiple platforms, you can decide for yourself how close it is to the Nintendo epic.

Available now on PC, PS4, and mobile, with a Switch release coming later, Genshin Impact’s biggest point of difference is that it’s free-to-play, with the game hoping to pull a profit through gacha mechanics. Due to being developed in China, which has strict loot box regulations, Genshin Impact’s gacha pulls are at least transparent about their drop rates.

Like Breath of the Wild, Genshin Impact features an expansive open world, climbing and running governed by a stamina bar, and even a similar graphical style. It adds more playable characters to the mix, however, as well as co-op gameplay and a combo-based combat system.

Cross-saves are available between PC and mobile, while cross-play is supported for PC, PS4 and mobile. The Switch release is coming at a later date, so no details about cross-saves or cross-play for that platform are available yet.

WWE And 2K Games Are Being Taken To Court Over Tattoos

WWE and 2K are being taken to court over the depiction of one wrestler’s sleeve tattoos. The Hollywood Reporter notes that artist Catherine Alexander has challenged these organizations over their use of her tattoo designs, present on the player model of Randy Orton, which marks the first case of a copyright dispute over tattoo art reproduction in a game that has gone to trial.

A federal judge in Illinois has given a partial summary judgment that finds that the WWE 2K game series has copied Alexander’s work, and it will now come down to a jury to decide whether this constitutes copyright infringement. The case centers around six tattoos on Orton’s arms, all of which have been recreated in-game, which Alexander never gave permission to reproduce.

This is not the first time 2K has been to court over tattoos, but when a similar challenge happened relating to NBA 2K, the courts found in favor of 2K. The case was never taken to trial.

You can read the memorandum and order for the WWE 2K case here. “The defense has been successfully invoked to allow copying of a small and usually insignificant portion of the copyrighted works, not the wholesale copying of works in their entirety as occurred here,” Judge Staci M. Yandle writes.

The outcome for this case could have wide-reaching implications for how personal tattoos are handled in games going forward.

There was no traditional WWE game released in 2020, with 2K instead releasing WWE 2K Battlegrounds, an arcade-like title. While his avatar in that game sports sleeve tattoos, they are not an exact match for Alexander’s work.

A new WWE 2K game is planned for 2021.

Henry Cavill Still Wants To Play 007 Someday

In 2005, Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of James Bond, but he didn’t get the part. The actor went on to have success with the role of Superman and more recently, as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s fantasy show. Cavill has now opened up about James Bond specifically, saying in an interview with GQ that he would “absolutely jump” at the idea of playing Bond in a future movie.

Cavill was only 22 when he auditioned for 007 for Casino Royale, and that would have made him the youngest actor to play the role. He’s now 37, and with Daniel Craig stepping down from the role after No Time To Die, the producers will be looking for a new super-spy. Nothing is decided yet, of course, but Cavill wants the producers to know he’s interested.

“If [Bond producer Barbara Broccoli] and Mike [co-producer Michael G. Wilson] were interested in that, I would absolutely jump at the opportunity,” Cavill said. “At this stage, it’s all up in the air. We’ll see what happens. But yes, I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”

Cavill’s latest project is the Netflix show Enola Holmes, in which he plays Sherlock Holmes.

The new James Bond movie, No Time To Die, is scheduled to premiere in November 2020 in theatres. The film was originally expected to debut in April, but it was delayed due to COVID-19. You can check out the latest trailer above.

The Xbox One version will also be upgradeable to the Series X or S and will give you access to cross-save.

Lastly, Persia talks about Vergil coming to DMC 5 via DLC after the release of the Special Edition. The DLC will also be available for current-gen consoles and cost an additional fee, but no further details were given at the time of the announcement. The trailer showed off Vergil in action executing some of his iconic moves, along with other familiar members of the cast also making an appearance.

Disney D23 Fan Convention Delayed A Year

While it wasn’t set to happen for another year, Disney has preemptively delayed the next D23 fan convention. The news was announced in a tweet, revealing the next D23 will occur September 9-11, 2022, rather than in 2021.

“D23 Expo 2022 will be a celebration unlike any other, as we give fans a first look at the incredible plans for the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company,” a statement reads. This news comes on the heels of several other conventions being delayed, canceled, or shifting to virtual events due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, San Diego Comic-Con was done virtually, and the upcoming New York Comic-Con will be as well.

Typically, D23 occurs every other year, giving Disney fans an opportunity to see footage from upcoming movies and TV shows, as well as see announcements about upcoming films, theme park expansions, and more. At the most recent D23, in 2019, Marvel Studios announced live-action Disney+ shows for She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel.

Interestingly, next year’s Star Wars Celebration was canceled back in June. That event will also return in 2022. Without D23 or Celebration in 2021, it remains to be seen when news about the next Star Wars movie will be announced.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare’s PS4 Exclusive Mode Will Come To Xbox One And PC Soon

After nearly a year of exclusivity on PlayStation 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s Survival mode in Spec Ops is headed to Xbox One and PC very soon.

Xbox One and PC players can access Survival mode from October 1, Infinity Ward’s senior communications manager announced on Twitter.

Xbox One and PC users have had access to the Spec Ops mode for Modern Warfare for launch, but Sony paid Activision to keep the Survival mode exclusive to PS4 for nearly a year.

Survival is a Horde-style cooperative mode where teams of up to four players fight against waves of increasingly difficult AI enemies across multiple maps.

Before Survival comes to Xbox One and PC, Infinity Ward will introduce Season 6 for Modern Warfare and the battle royale game Warzone. The free expansion adds new multiplayer maps, introduces a subway system to Warzone’s battle royale map, and includes new Operators. What’s more, the update introduces a new Halloween-themed finishing move that lets you dispatch a bat named Edward to kill your enemies.
